I just finished watching this drama and give it a 10/10 even though the final episode devoted 35 minutes to wrapping up the stories of minor characters and showed less than 2 minutes of screen time for the main couple. Mr Director where were your priorities?
What was the gift Lord Shao gave to each of his generals, Wei Liang got a gold dagger, Wei Qu got a pair of golden…
At the end of episode 18 Wei Liang explains what the miniature weapon gifts were. According to the subtitles on Viki Wei Duo received a small golden sword.
Ep 28 and still no kiss? 😜 slow burn at another level.
Drunk Manman kissed Wei Shao in episode 23.
In episode 29 they have a steamy hot kissing scene because they’re intending to consummate their marriage but they get interrupted by a military report.
In episode 32 they have a kissing scene before finally consummating their marriage.
Their kisses in episodes 29 and 32 are 🔥🔥🔥and show the chemistry between them is intense. LYN is an amazing kisser and Song Zuer gave it her all during the kiss scenes.
Viewers may have to wait a long time for the kiss scenes in this drama but they’re worth waiting for. There are no dead fish lip kisses or camera angle fake kisses. The kiss scenes in TPoB are masterpieces.
I felt that the ending was so rushed, I just needed one more episode before the ending , just to see how they…
That’s probably a sign that this drama is so good that you cared about even relatively minor characters and want to know more about what happened to them.
For some dramas that I’ve watched I was just happy to finish the final episode. But for the excellent dramas I’ve watched I always want more time with the characters. For me the Prisoner of Beauty is one of the excellent ones. I’m a bit sad that I won’t be able to spend more time with the Wei clan and the Qiao clan. It’s going to be hard to move on to the next drama.
I did not like the final 3 episodes. They don’t fit the tone of the drama at all. The final scenes could not…
Originally the drama was supposed to be 40 episodes but for some reason they cut it down to 36. Editing out that much of the story probably caused it to feel like the ending was rushed.
The basic plot of the novel was Wei Shao having sex with his wife until she finally submitted to him. Liu Yuning said in an interview that the director would have been put in jail if they filmed all of the sex scenes that were in the novel. So of course the screen adaptation had to be quite different than the novel.
People watching The Prisoner of Beauty and expecting a lot of sex will be disappointed. But if people watch without preconceived ideas they might be pleasantly surprised by this slow burn romance.
He has a bit of a redemption arc late in the drama. Wei Yan frustrated me in the beginning but I began to realize…
Thankfully he’s not in very many episodes.😀Once he causes some trouble he disappears from the plot line for a while. But I must admit I wanted to strangle him when he was causing the problem.
Just started ep11, and my blood pressure is soaring whenever this Wei Yan appearsEach time he appear with that…
He has a bit of a redemption arc late in the drama. Wei Yan frustrated me in the beginning but I began to realize he’s not all bad, but he’s certainly not all good either. His character is perhaps the most realistic in the drama.
Viki just updated their release schedule. Episode 32 is available now and the remaining episodes will be released one per day.
I’m so happy for you that you got to finish this drama already. I’m still impatiently waiting for Viki to release the last few episodes. imo this is one of the best historical cdramas ever.
That isn't the case for this drama. You can justify the characters according to their own situations. No one is…
He never slaps her in the drama but he chokes her twice and cuts her neck with a sword. He also forgets about her and leaves her outside the city in the pouring rain until she’s delirious with a high fever. He’s definitely not a simp.
Your comments are so funny because you exhibit such a rigid point of view about a drama that you haven’t even watched. Maybe this drama is a little too complicated and nuanced for you to enjoy completely.

Watching the short slap scene out of context won’t give you a good idea of why it happened because you won’t know what has taken place up to that point. But because you seem so focused on that one scene it takes place in episode 4 at 6:30. At least watch the first 12 minutes of the episode so it makes a little more sense.
I feel sad that you’re trying to dismiss a good drama based on a few seconds in a scene. But it’s your choice.

It’s a slow release schedule but at least there’s progress without having to use a pirate site or pay the ransom to Tencent.
