I really hate that they are trying to force romance with the old doctor!
Once you become an adult age gap is not a significant issue.

Also, who’s trying to force romance? The writer isn’t forcing anything.

kim sabi is getting on my nerves
Sabi quickly realized her mistakes and apologized to Yi-Young. Sabi also helped Yi-Young when she was dreading getting a skin sample from the baby. Sabi has a high IQ but a low EQ. She is not a perfect person but she’s learning. Having flaws makes her a more realistic character.

“My rating for now: 4/5”. Mathematically your last sentence translates to a rating of 8 but you gave it an overall rating of 7.

Your rating by category (story, acting, music, rewatch) averages out to a rating of 5.75, not an overall rating of 7.

You stated that you watched 12 out of 12 episodes but only 4 episodes have been released so far.

Your rating doesn’t make sense mathematically.

ETA You’ve edited your rating to a lower one after I posted my comment about math errors. Your review demonstrates why MDL ratings are no longer reliable.

ETA again: Sigh. You should have made your “review” of episodes 1 - 4 in the comments section and not in this review section. You’ve edited your rating twice now and introduced yet another maths error. Your rating continues to demonstrate why drama ratings on this site have become a joke.

So, so far its not bad, but compared to Hospital Playlist it definitely falls short. I dont find any of the FLs…
The characters in Hospital Playlist were more likable because they were seasoned professionals who showed selfless concern for the well being of others. In Resident Playbook the residents are just starting out in their careers so at this point their flaws stand out much more than their strengths.

HP made an impact on me because it focused more on emotional interactions instead of medical problems. It was easy to care about the doctors and the patients stories. Episodes 3 & 4 of Resident Playbook started to focus more on the emotional stories of the patients and doctors so I believe the writing in this drama is heading in the same direction as HP. I’m hopeful that RP will continue to add depth to the stories so more people can connect emotionally with this drama.

Was that a wedding ring that Dr Kim Jun Wan was wearing? It’s so nice to see the cast of HP making cameo appearances. 😊

He is so not into her
I agree. So far he’s been treating her like a cute little sister, not a romantic interest.

no its her second year
At the end of episode 2 Dr Koo Do Won calls her a first year. She’s repeating her first year residency.

The first two episodes haven’t revealed the FL’s complete backstory. More information about her past and how…
In the first episode we learn that FL interned at Yulje Jongno branch and started her residency there. Then she went to a local hospital where she “made a mess” and quit. It appears that she didn’t successfully complete her first year residency at either hospital.

Her dad went bankrupt and she’s in debt so Oh Yi-Yeong accepted a 1st year residency job back at Yulje Jongno. In the first day meeting with the 4 new residents and the supervising residents Dr Koo Do Won tells everyone that Oh Yi-Yeong was “repeating a year as a resident.”

can somebody explain fl story , she is 1st year resident but has 2 years of experience working as a dr in local…
The first two episodes haven’t revealed the FL’s complete backstory. More information about her past and how it affects her present circumstances will probably be given in later episodes. The writer wants us to keep watching if we’re curious about what happened.

Resident Playbook is not a prequel. It takes place sometime after Hospital Playlist ended. It sounds like you…
In episode 1 of Hospital Playlist Dr Lee Ik-jun operated on a Yulje Medical Center patient while wearing a black Star Wars helmet that was superglued to his head. I’m not sure he was even a doctor at Yulje at that point in the story. Isn’t that an example of creative license?

I seem to recall a lot of pregnant women lying flat in HP too. Maybe the shows had the same medical advisor?

I think some viewers have the tendency to compare the first hour or two of RP with the over 36 hours of HP that they watched. It took some time for the characters in HP to be fully fleshed out and expecting the characters in RP to immediately have the same depth is expecting too much.

Is RP as immediately engaging as HP was? For me it’s not, but I never expect any spin-off to be equal to the original. I’m still willing to watch RP as if it was a stand alone drama.

Comparing any show to one of my all time favorites is just setting myself up for disappointment. But you do you. Everyone has different tastes and standards.

can watch without watching hp
Yes. There will be a few brief guest appearances by HP characters but this drama can be watched on its own.

Perhaps the writer was taking creative license in order to emphasize the inexperience of the residents? I guess that since this is a work of fiction I’m willing to give some technical mistakes a pass at this point in the drama. But if the writing continues to ignore logic and common sense throughout the drama it will definitely affect my enjoyment of this show.

I’m trying to give RP a fair chance. I really loved HP and it’s impossible for me to believe that any spinoff could live up to the original series in terms of acting and writing. I’m just hoping RP turns out to be an adequate medical drama.

A big big fan of hospital playlist so i had a great expectations for this series as well.... But, my expectations…
Resident Playbook is not a prequel. It takes place sometime after Hospital Playlist ended.

It sounds like you were actually hoping for Hospital Playlist 3 and of course Resident Playbook didn’t meet your expectations. The two dramas are about doctors in completely different phases of their careers.

Hospital Playlist was a drama about a group of highly experienced and skilled doctors who were in their 40s. They met in college and had been friends for around 20 years.

Resident Playbook is primarily about four doctors in their late 20s just starting their first year residency. They don’t know each and just met the first day on the job. The new residents are unfamiliar with the doctors who will be their mentors and they’re also unfamiliar with the exact practices and procedures in the Jongno branch of Yulje Hospital. The new residents have medical book knowledge and the drama will be showing how they gain practical experience as they work with different patients and doctors in the hospital.

the main thing that frustates me right now is that the show is supposed to take place in Yulje hospitial but all…
This takes place in the Jongno branch of Yulje. It’s not the same hospital but is affiliated with the main Yulje Medical Center that is in Hospital Playlist.

6.2??
40 minutes later it’s up to 7.8. maybe there’s a glitch affecting the rating?

is it a real comedy vibe or they put tragic/horror stories in the middle to make you jerk some tears ? i like…
One of the genres is comedy but it’s set in a hospital. They show medical situations and use medical terminology. There may be some sad tearjerker moments in future episodes. You can try watching the first episode, but if you don’t like hospital dramas you may not like the show.

Personally I like dramas like this. I loved Hospital Playlist and although this is a little different, I enjoyed episode 1 and am looking forward to watching more episodes.

Perfect 1st ep. Nothing wrong with it. I don't get the ratings once again.
The show’s type of comedy won’t please everyone. The humor is a bit OTT and forced at times. Some people prefer a more subtle type of comedy. The current 7.9 rating is still a decent rating on MDL.

You don't like Kim won hae then ?
I first saw him in SWDBS where he played a very memorable OTT character. He seems to stand out in what ever role he takes on. Recently he was in A Virtuous Business. He definitely wasn’t playing an idiot or using OTT comedy in that show. I like him as an actor because he can handle many types of roles effectively. He seems pretty versatile to me. Of course, everyone’s taste in actors differs.
