Just like many other dramas that lose their spark in the second half, this one wasn’t an exception. After ep…
I agree 100%. It’s like the writers decided to make an entirely sadistic choice about Lin Yan. And I agree, the entire first 20 episodes was about who their ancestor is and then they just resolved it with a footnote. And no one remembered anything so what was the point of the journey?? Not a good ending, both from an emotional angle and from a practical story telling perspective

Ok gals, Li Yunrui with gray hair is so HOT! I came here to say just this.
Out of all Cdrama actors I think he looks the hottest with white/silver grey hair. In my opinion

In my opinion, as far as the final episode is concerned, the makers did the best they could with the restrictions…
I don’t think they needed to be so sadistic with LY for the censors. That was by choice, a sadistic choice. Because nothing in the Chinese censorship require misery as a prerequisite to a time travel drama ending.

Finally watched the last episodes. I don't like the kind of endings where they meet again in modern times and…
There is some merit to this theory. I did think it was weird how easily he was able to grasp modern concepts she told him so quickly. For example, the dishwasher. She noted how he was able to make one just being told once about it. He is smart but if you’re 1000 years removed from it you just wouldn’t even be able to get the concept. So I wondered about that. If your theory is correct and that was just in his subconscious then it would make sense. Whatever helps me ease the heartache I feel for Lin Yan.

I know I should stop venting but I am so annoyed at this drama. I literally stopped watching Fated Hearts and started this thinking it was a light happy drama. And then this one turns out to be the one with the most tragic ending where the entire family is massacred in a fire and the ML is left longing for them his entire lifetime. WTH. I need to go back to Fated Hearts so I can feel happy again.

Well said! I couldn’t have said it better! I totally agree. A sadistic choice is the perfect way to describe what they did. I feel heartache coming on for LY again after reading your comment. Omg, what a poor soul. I feel like we should translate your comment into Chinese and send it to the writers.

Scriptwriter has a nice start, some refreshing idea to work with, and even a nice cast but end up doing it unjust.…
Agree! So anticlimactic. The writers forgot the whole purpose of the story. We watched to find out who the real ancestor was for 30 episodes and the reveal was SO lame. What was the point/focus of the whole story then?

I dislike the ending so much I’m just going to have my own interpretation of it. I’m just going to assume that there was no transmigration and there was a real SSG who was engaged and married to LY, and she and her family died in a fire. Overcome with grief, LY imagined this story about her in the hopes that he will meet her again in the future. His enduring love and hope transformed into a spirit in the form of the butterfly and when BOTH Lin Yan and SSG reincarnated thousand years later, the butterfly reminded them of their everlasting love. So when they woke up they “found” each other again. For me, this feels more digestible and less unfair to LY. After all, in life our loved ones can die anytime and there is no guaranty that they will live a long time with us. They could die of an accident or illness. So to me, at least this makes me feel like less unfair and just an inevitable part of life. Sad but less unfair to LY.

See, I just don’t get it. Why do Cdrama writers and directors insist on shoving their sweet moments in one episode, and then rushing the ending? It’s like they spent all this time building up to what the audience expects to be a relief when the main couple finally get together. But it’s always a let down because they focus more on the buildup but then they just wrap up and finish it so quickly. What was the waiting worth? There were so many episodes that could have been shortened to add in at least one or two more episodes of their happy relationship. It’s like you building up for a big birthday party for weeks, planning and waiting and ordering the food, buying the presents, decorating, inviting friends and all of the anticipation. But the party ends up being rushed and finished in 10 minutes. How would you feel? The point is that we want to enjoy all the buildup that was made, to see the results of the buildup and revel in that.

To me, it’s not the best ending. It’s kind of not fair to Lin Yan right? He is the only one who reincarnated. She is the same person. LY is the only one who had to live out the rest of his life alone, remembering what he once had and lost - he himself said that it’s sadder to have and lost then to never have had at all. I say this again, reincarnation is not the same as the actual person. Here, SSG is the same person and LY is a reincarnation. It doesn’t matter whether he remembers his “past life.” For SSG it’s not a past life but an actual real life that she lived and loved through but for LY it’s just a memory of something that didn’t actually happen to him because he is a reincarnation. Seems kind of unfair and wasn’t necessary.

They could have lived a long happy life in ancient times and found each other again after they both reincarnated. Love that transcends time isn’t beautiful only just because somebody suffers and is tragic. It can be just as beautiful if they’ve overcome hardship together, lived and loved together for a long time with happiness. To me, that type of love is just as beautiful. Cdrama writers need to get out of this tragedy mindset. This is why their endings always suck.

So the last episode will air on the 25th? With express I mean. With episode 28 airing on the 21st and so on.
Thank you~ what the heck though, I paid extra for the express service. Tencent’s VIP and express service sucks anyway. IQIYI site is much better run.

The angst in this drama is driving me back to finish watching Fated Hearts. At least they have a true happy ending. 😂 Ironic since I stopped watching Fated Hearts bc it was too much drama.

I think the reason for the low viewership is bc their main promo poster and the title sucks. Who came up with the title? Except for the first 12 episodes or so there hasn’t been a lot of emphasis on food. Which is fine. They should have picked a better less silly title bc the drama overall is not that silly.

I hope this drama doesnt end with them going back to modern times. But i can see that as happening and him coming…
I agree, it sucks. The relationships and love they built can’t be replicated in modern times just through “reincarnation.”

I feel like a lot of people are forgetting that this is, at its core, a family drama centered around the women…
It’s not that we’re complaining that it contains story about the family. I don’t mind having the family story. It was good in the beginning. But they didn’t do anything with the story. For example. The parents clearly have a problem but they keep going back to the same problem without any resolution. The mom doesn’t communicate well at all and she just keeps getting mad at the dad and the dad feels under appreciated. There has been no progress, no arc in their story. At ep 27 they’re still the same! The brother, they had a chance to allow him to become a better person than who he was in the past/future but they squandered that opportunity and made it into a comedy and let him just escape and leave home. Having a family drama is fine but we’re complaining because the writing is terrible and the sub-plot of the family has not made any advancements in themselves or even in the narrative of the story. As a writer, you always have to ask why is the character there and what are they doing to move the main plot along? You can’t answer that question for the family after like episode 17. They’re just there. That’s poor writing and is not fun to watch. That’s what the complaint is about.

They will finally get married (first link, from 033"), but their happiness will be brief . SSG will return…
I disagree. A reincarnation is not the same as the person LY and SSG actually fell in love with. A reincarnation is a totally different person. So SSG just falls in love with a totally different person who looks like LY in the future. How is that a “reunion.” The use of a reincarnation trophe is lazy writing. Also, why can’t the Shen family live in the Tang era. Why is there a rule against that? They seem to be happier in the Tang era. They are successful, have good friends, and they even have a good school for YY. So why do they have to go back? Who says the future era is safer and better? For the Shen family we clearly saw that they were settled and happier in the Tang era. I think that’s the Cdrama messaging they want to push on the viewers, “oh look the future China is a better place to be” but I totally disagree.
