The title is throwing me. It seems so juvenile, maybe they could’ve picked a different title. But is the story good still? Worth a try? I like both the FL (Baobao!) and the ML (Song Mo!)
This series is actually pretty good! So surprised bc I’m not a fan of dramas from this era. And I wasn’t sure about the plot but I’m on Ep 5 now and it’s been really good. I keep watching it! Cheng Lei is killing it - as expected - but the story is good too. Cheng Lei in this drama looks like Andy Lau from the 90’s Hong Kong era with the acting skills of Tony Leung. He captivates in every scene. And so many funny scenes with him too. Too good~ too good~ Very unexpected good drama!
Finished this and loved it. I do think the story has some plot holes and is not perfect because they seemed to have rushed it to get it all in 36 episodes. This is one of those dramas that could have done with more episodes 38 or 40 or cut out some of the unnecessary storylines in the middle like the whole master’s love story or Chonghai.
I’ve read ppl not liking Zhou Ye as female general. I don’t know what they’re talking about. I thought she was fantastic. I was skeptical at first because she is so petit but she definitely carried her own. She portrayed He Yan with so much gravitas and command that I thought she was believable as a strong female general. Also, I appreciated her acting and her looking “ugly” in her action scenes (ex: ep 24). A lot of actresses will try to look pretty in all the shots (ex: Song Yi) so I appreciated that ZY could look scrunched up and fierce like she was really angry or just fighting for her life with all her might. I mean, it’s tough to match Cheng Lei’s aura (I mean, let’s be honest Cheng Lei dominates in every scene and every drama) but she managed to hold her own. So you have to give credit where it’s due. She did a great job. I was convinced after watching and finishing this drama. I think I’ll have high standards for future female generals.
I strongly recommend this drama. I think there could have been more sweet moments between the leads and there were some major scenes that could have been better but that were a bit anticlimactic but even then I would recommend this as a strong 9/10.
Confused why he is a kid. It’s a bit annoying and weird that the ML is a kid for so many episodes. When will he turn back? I hope it’s not too prolonged otherwise any romance between the leads will just seem super weird and pedophilic
For anyone wondering about the rating, no this drama is not overrated. It’s excellent. The story and the characters are portrayed well. I love smart FL and ML! Both are competent and smart and funny. The ML knows when the FL is lying but lets it go understanding she has her reasons. The story and the storytelling is so grown up and mature without silliness that it’s refreshing and I love it. For anyone who wants mindless cookie cutter cutesie romance scenes and dumb FL and over macho ML then this drama isn’t for you so don’t watch it and later leave comments about how it wasn’t “romantic” enough because it didn’t have the childish cliche scenes. This is by far the best drama for me for 2025. Cheng Lei always picks such good dramas with good characters. Starting to really like him.
Not much romance and each episode is a story on its own. I watched it bc of the rave reviews but I’m on Ep 7 now and it’s still pretty boring. There’s not much underlying plot that is developing and the FL is still not part of the story. In fact, Wang An Yu is also really not part of the story either because each episode is a case he is reading about so he’s not really in it either except a little in the beginning and the end in each episode. Thought the plot would be much better given the reviews. It’s a bit disappointing.
For me this drama was a 10/10 fantastic. LOVED the lead’s chemistry and the story. It’s about preference, just what kind of dramas you like and what type of love story you like. For me, I found the Double boring and annoying. It reminded me of old revenge Kdramas from a decade ago. And I didn’t love the FL there bc I didn’t see much improvement in her acting since Yanxi. But I know a lot of people loved it. So it’s just a personal preference, not that one drama is better than the other. For me, I loved this one.
This drama will be 10/10 if they don't cut the full kiss scenes
Their chemistry was fire. So fantastic. I don’t know what the director was thinking g making everything rated PG. I’ve seen his other works so I know he could do better. I’m wondering if it was some type of censor issue.
Why are we remaking Princess Agents instead of continuing that with a sequel that everyone is waiting for. Also, to go from Zhao Liying as Chu Qiao to this young FL seems a bit…. I guess we’ll wait to see if she has the charisma for this role.
I liked her in Ever Night and the Untamed. Don’t care for her off-camera personality but I like her as an actress so I am glad she’s finally getting the main lead roles.
On ep 1 but not loving it. I’m surprised by the director, I thought he’d be better given his filmography. The side characters are over the top. Worst of all, I feel like they are underutilizing Lee Jong Won’s acting skills - the ML character is rather boring, and the set up in contrast with the FL is too cliche. I’ll watch a few more episodes to see if it’s gets better but so far it’s a bit disappointing especially given the acting spectrum of the FL and ML.
Back to Seventeen was such a surprise! A must watch that’s very underrated! I’d also recommend Butterflied Lovers. The plot is pretty fantastic and the cinematography is stunning.
Season 2 is so terrible. What happened to the main characters? Who are all these random people I don’t care about. Why is this all of a sudden some kind of military drama with super boring subplots. S2 completely missed the points that made S1 a hit. Humanity in the face of adversity and characters worth rooting for trying to survive in an apartment complex. The story was so focused and tight with great character development all around.
S2 was none of this. None of the characters are worth anything in S2. Even Hyun Su was super annoying and naive. S2 suffered from having way too big a budget with unnecessary location shoots, bombs and guns everywhere, barely any monsters, and barely any coherent plot. All in all, it was such a chaotic mess. I think the fans of S1 could have written a much better S2. SO DISAPPOINTING. I don’t even know if they can fix the series with a S3.
