Finally caught up with 27-30.

Drama is getting angsty and I'm scared. Loved the small amount of sweetness between the erstwhile brothers at Zhoudi Tower before all hell broke loose again. Finally got the full Fang Zhou flashback too. FZ is TLC's everything, his light and his life. He's holding so much pain over his death inside him ugh and it makes sense. Fang Zhou gave him the security to grasp his identity and become the person he is today.

Luo Yunxi & Fang Yilun acting is so phenomenal and tugs at the heartstrings. I'm so glad they are working together again in their next drama. I need more of their interactions, so layered & complex and the actors are bringing it out so well too.

Coming into this drama I expected more of a Tang Lici, Chi Yun & Shen Langhun trio setup similar to Mysterious Lotus Casebook, but it turns out it's actually Tang Lici, Liu Yan & Fang Zhou as the core of the story. I'm really enjoying this part of the drama most and I can see why their scenes were added to the updates especially with the direction the plot is going for the endgame.

Also wow at the Ah Shui reveals, her being so "blank" at the beginning makes sense now. Wonder what she will do next. Gui Mudan reveal had me shook too.

Additionally, really enjoyed the snippet of TLC's background during the festival. Hoping to see more about that in the next episodes!

you can try dramas with female leads that are more about the FL than the romance - example is story of minglan. it’s not a problem to not like romance!

but this drama doesn’t have a romance plotline so you won’t be annoyed by it.

it's so weird like poor girl and ao zi yi are the youngest of the cast but they've been real standouts from this drama imo. her acting has been pretty great especially considering she's so much younger and less experienced, honestly among the 3 FLs she's shown the most microexpressions and nuance in her performance. it's one thing to criticize the character but the go after the actress is disgusting. i don't think she's getting hate outside of MDL though and she's had a main FL role in a decently produced drama before so I think she will be fine regardless.

that may be the case for some international audience but paternal shixiong relationship is a familiar trope in jianghu stories. the implication in these stories and also based on culture is these people are your family, same as your blood family. so being tied up in grief over loss of your family, especially when this was the only positive influence in TLC’s life makes complete sense.

That's their shipping goggles. At the end of the day there's still no canon ship and the drama is 3/4 of the way through. This drama is clearly no CP and all CP. But who knows, maybe we will get a dramatic confession scene and a romantic kiss? I don't really care because it's a boring ship anyway.

And that's your interpretation. Others have their own. CP promotion means nothing because the law forbids anything but heterosexual promotions anyway. It is not a het novel or a BL novel. It is a martial arts fantasy novel about an MC who has many different relationships with many different people.

The original novel is not a romance and Tang Lici is flirtatious towards everyone. You can argue he is bisexual or pansexual but assuming he's straight is comphet bs and I'm tired of you people acting like straight needs to be the default in FICTION.

Yes! The cinematography really reminds me of scenery I imagine from danmei. And even though there's no BL, the tropes are still there like the da-shixiong who everyone loves and the toxic best friends to enemies plot line.

biluo palace was draggy and boring as well for me. i was worried the drama will go downhill from there but it didn’t. unfortunately it was just a slow arc that felt like filler but its becomes essential later on.
