Yes! The cinematography really reminds me of scenery I imagine from danmei. And even though there's no BL, the tropes are still there like the da-shixiong who everyone loves and the toxic best friends to enemies plot line.

biluo palace was draggy and boring as well for me. i was worried the drama will go downhill from there but it didn’t. unfortunately it was just a slow arc that felt like filler but its becomes essential later on.

As far as the direction the show is heading, it's mostly Tang Lici's story about facing his past with his senior brothers and confronting Liu Yan. All other characters spend time with him and become closer to him. You can ship anyone you want which is the beauty of having such a charming MC.

As for Ah Shui, her story is not complete as there's been hints she's hiding something. There are people on this page who love TLC x Ah Shui ship and yes they have some beautifully shot scenes together. Recently, there are some pretty scenes with Zhong Chunji as well. There's also a large shipping community for TLC x Liu Yan on XHS and X.

Zhong Chunji's scene in the lake made me tear up. Her life has been so hard and she hasn't been able to feel stable since being abandoned as a kid. I'm so glad she has a loving shifu and friends to rely on now.
