Which novel is this series based on? Where can I find an english version please?

I completely agree! I had been seeing heavy period dramas all summer and this one was a breath of fresh air. I don’t think I ever laughed so much seeing any other period drama!

I think around the time they get married, around episode 32-34. There is no episode where he has to choose, the FL describes what will happen to the ML and he makes arrangements to save her as well as her sister. Hope this helps

Right, but I still felt it was funny how in one scene she was so sick and in the next she was moving logs to look for him, all decked up and bejewelled. Her brother looked more realistic on the other hand dressed up in rags throughout.

I am on episode 31, and thought he show has been good so far, our FL, however pretty and a good actress she might be, looks a bit too old for a 20-year old princess. No offence intended, I do like her, and loved her in the untamed and in Blossom. In the end of episode 30, we see her unconscious because of the poison, and in the beginning of episode 31, she has changed into a different attire, done up her hair and jewellery and is searching for the ML who went in to get her the antidote. Is it a flaw in direction or am I not seeing the reason here?

I liked Prisoner of Beauty too. You are right about xianxia shows, they are centered around love, misunderstandings and happy endings!

I am right there with you! Zhang Luyin might have done many bad things, and he would have got retribution at some point, but being so publically humiliated by his own wife, I was also hoping Zang Hai would help him, and also feeling very sorry for Zhang Zhixin who gave it his all to secure first position in the martial examination. Clearly no character here is without flaws, and each one will have to pay for their misdoings. Even Zang Hai wouldn’t feel happy once his revenge is over, it will leave him bitter and cynical as it is.

Seeing how confused she was by his accusation, I don’t think she’s the one. A ten year old little girl
cannot plot the massacre of an official’s family. She must be looking for the Gui seal as it rightly belongs to her family.

I completely agree. At this point, I find nobody around him trustworthy. The masked man, his master, his female teacher, all appear dubious at times. We know for certain that the Marquis is a bad character and the main villian according to the ML, but somehow he is more in danger from the people around him who are covertly using him for their own purpose. I feel so far in the show only Xiang Antu has openly helped him or harmed him, and he always knows what she has done. either good or bad. I wish I’m overthinking and his teachers finally come out to be honest people who are not using him.

I love Zhang Jingyi! She is an amazing actress and I feel she is doing complete justice to Xiang Antu’s character. The chemistry between Xiang Antu and Zang Hai is killer and I’ve loved their combined screen time a lot. Like you said, her role isn’t supposed to outshine the MLs, but I feel in her role she appears strong enough to leave a mark. I seriously cannot find faults in her character even. As a kid who was pampered as a princess. then got separated from family and grew up in enemy state as a hostage, she is bound to be temperamental and arrogant, but we see that she is also kind and considerate towards women and helpless people. She’s helped the ML plenty, and she’s made it quiet clear that she likes him and expects a definitive response, when she doesn’t get one, she tries to make the ML suffer a bit to maybe nudge him to react. People say she’s stalking the ML, but it can also be seen as proactively protecting him from harm. She knew he was looking for the coin, and rather than letting somebody else buy it, she bought it and then gave it to him. Shw doesn’t like the royal family, so when the coin had served the purpose of the ML, she tried to get it back. Like the ML, she’s also looking for the Gui seal it appears, so she decided to ask some questions, not knowing that the prince was sobering up already. I’m sorry if I’m ranting, but I seriously don’t see any fault in the FL’s character.

Well that’s just a conjecture so far isn’t it! The FL was captured after defeat of Donxia and was brought back as a captive, probably to keep her as a bargaining chip. Who all of her family are left behind we don’t know from the story so far. Or did I miss something? I feel she is looking for the Gui seal since it belonged to her kingdom. She’s probably had a rough childhood too, having to stay in a foreign land away from her home, she might think the Gui seal would be her ticket home. That’s what I have been able to gather so far, but I might be totally wrong! So many people are upset here with how she is behaving, but someone who was pampered a lot as a kid and then had to keep her feelings hidden and survive in enemy territory would get temperamental and difficult to read I feel. She might appear to be stalking the ML but she could also be seen as protecting him proactively.

Seriously!!! I thought, rather wished hopelessly that he’ll just go ahead and kiss her!! Well it would have been out of character for Zang Hai if he did!!! These two are hiding many things from each other, till that is sorted out, I cannot see them getting together.

After episode 20, I dont know who is trustworthy for Zang Hai anymore, everyone seems to have their own agenda. I initially thought his teacher was honest and had his back, now I dont know anymore. I have started doubting his teacher as well as his lady teacher, they all seem to know more than him, but don’t share the intel. As for XAT and Zang Hai, they dont seem to be getting away from each other, nor do they seem to be getting enough of each other :) They are both after the Gui seal for now though.
