BEWARE if u watch on YouTube: The 1st six episodes on YT by misslozo has parts CUT OUT!!!! .... And playlist by…
I believe, that now, DL is only way to watch it complete and w/ Audio.
Choice of 12 lower video quality files or 4 higher video quality, but large files.
Ur completed list shows u r new to lakorns... this is an intense slap/kiss...I do NOT recommend u start here unless u r ready to accept culture shock ...
It's a typical slap/kiss story, but executed exceptionally well here ...
Imo, it is the best written, best acted, directed, etc... complex characters..
but u can't appreciate their decisions unless u r more familiar w/ the cultural context.
This story is from 1980's, cultural values have changed much since then.
I really like how she plays the N'Rai... Like a ditsy airhead, very laid back and cool... Yet, she's smart enough to come up with wily plans!... sarcastically comedic... LMAO!
much better than those neurotic N'Rais, going crazy w/ jealousy, screaming, etc...
Unlike others, I din't think Too Late to Say I Love You was particularly more violent or more bloody than similar C-dramas ... Did anyone see Scarlet Heart? Or any Palace movie?
Battle of Changsha is historical and about war, of course war is ugly!..(excellent, btw)
Similarly, TLTSILY is also historicaly-based about Chinese Civil war ... Murong Feng's based on real person (w/ alterations to history)... Murong Feng is a "Warlord", he governs the Northern provinces . He has duty and responsibility for all the citizens, can't just do what he wants.... thousands may die if he messes up.
He's an anti-hero, has flaws, ambitions, selfishness, duty, loyalty, etc... That should explain many of his actions/decisions.
Also, It is a historical law in China, to punish the three generations of kin of offender, sometimes even more extended family... that's normal.
As for him pulling a gun on her in 1st 2 minutes of drama, it was to show his pain, passion and how important she/they are to him ... I think it makes him a believable character, as the governor, always wary of the next traitor, enemy coming from w/in... he was in a constantly heightened aggravated state at that time.... It fits his character.
Anyway, a lot more interesting than the other gangster heroes who never actually commit any violence. For me, there is one WTH moment towards the end, but it soon blew over.
It's not a drama about cute moments...it's about real flawed people, about their growth ... and above all, about their PASSIONATE Love!
In Cruel Romance, Maeda is my favorite, one hot villain...maybe that's my taste...lol!
This movie has good reviews from known critics...Must watch!
EDIT: watched it and liked it .... the story, premise and characters are good ... Beautiful camera work! It could have used a little more tension in the build-up .... and tied in more to the climax... I like how Johnny To stylized the images of the climax at the very end.... But some were over-stylized, not realistic and somehow not well thought-out .... Somehow the music was lacking in enhancing the atmosphere. Some of the actions at the very end were not befitting of their characters.
It needed a bit more thrill and a bit more romp!
Louis Koo is wonderful.... Wallace Chung is charasmatic and a scene stealer ... excellent !!! Vicki Zhao had the same blank stare almost throughout entire film, no emotion at all .... Did she have Botox and couldn't move a muscle?? very dull!
I wrote a good review about this film a while back , but the entire page was deleted from MDL,!!! ... don't know why.... so I just re-added it.
Anyway, the action scenes are pretty good..... But something about the story was missing ... It failed to connect emotionally.
The dialogue was not very good, it was more like a bunch of "one-liners".
The best character was the Japanese Colonel Masaya, he was intense ... I think the actor made his character come alive.
Worth watching for the action, but don't expect depth.
Viki has a channel for it

Saw him in Samee and wow!!
Among all the actors currently in their 20's, he's one of Best actors of his generation!!!
He needs to be the lead, not just 2nd lead!!!
I heard this is the most intense slap/kiss ... the Weir version was toned down (good thing! ... there's progress…
Found it raw on Youku... I watched some of it and discovered Johnny is a lot like Weir ... Both have wild expressions, yet are Not very good at expressing deep emotion (he's a bit better than Weir tho) ..
But, just like Weir, he's handsome, sexy hot, and very good at being the "Perverted P'rek" .... heheheheh!
This drama is horrible from a feminist point of view. I have loved the lead in all his previous roles but this…
I also agree w/ @Valier ...especially that it's culturally specific.
However, when I think of my favorite strong, tough, intelligent, sassy female leads ... Many of my faves are in lakorns!!!
And... these females take no crap from the male lead, no matter how mean he is.
But, from a femminist POV, the fact that she still falls in love w/ him and forgives him in the end (often after making him suffer as well) ... and He simply becomes a love-struck puppy and putty in her hand, does not justify the start and it's unrealistic.
I choose to believe that it shows how much stronger she is ! ... bcz these females can always overcome their hearts and use their brains (not as emotional as the males) ... Plus, they don't break, no matter what!...I love these women!
Very Different Lakorn, Mature, unique, reasonable, realistic..... It also has depth, common to older lakorns. Very good writing and excellent acting. These older lakorns have well developed characters and plots that make sense!.... concentrated on the script and character development rather than action!
An admirable male lead, a strong intelligent female lead .... No noble idiocy!..Well, just noble! I really liked the mature, honest love of lead couple .... Whereas he had to be strong, fill the void for everyone else, be their rock! ... She filled the void in his heart. She's the only one to understand his struggle, see his pain and heal his heart .... Love the way both struggled w/ their dilemma: love vs responsibility ... she's courageous, loved and didn't hold back ... Yet, mature, responsible decision making.
I like how they treated the mother's storyline, more realistic ... No excuses!!... as Chanon later found out, love can be selfish!
Also, no typical lakorn craziness ..Yeay!.... The villains were not 1-dimensional but Complete Characters !!!... they also had real human vulnerability which led them to do bad things. ...and .... the evil brother is actually comedic relief... as despicable as he is, I couldn't really hate him, b/c of the way the actor portrayed him.
Andrew is Excellent playing the complex and tortured Chanon... Calm, patient, w/ a terse and cynical exterior yet able to emote the pain, passion and vulnerability hidden inside .... Loved Andrew here! ... Kob is very good as always.
Must share this funny line from the despicable low-life brother.... he was hitting his wife, so they told him "Stop!!...She's a woman!"... He replies "Good that she's a woman!... If I hit a man, I’ll really get it!!!" LMAO... Seriously can not hate him!... All the credit is due to the actor and his style!!! I love these No-Excuses Laid-back villains...xD
Hmm! Jiang Maggie... she's better than Tiffany, Angela, and Ying Er... Finally!...A Wallace drama I can look forward…
Yeah, at least she can have more than one expression on her face, or the wide-eyed doe look, unlike the other 3. So I believe chemistry will be good...
and Wallace always shines and makes the hero an irresistibly perfect man.
Let's hope she can do the same for the heroine, although the Chinese writers often make the women too childish (yet strong n smart o.O), not as admirable as the hero :(
This is a really good drama and Wallace is great in it. There is a few people watching it???
Hey, just wanted give encouragement to your team to PLEASE continue subbing this wonderful drama....
Chinese dramas have finally started to be more popular, here on MDL, thanx to the new subbed ones that came out .. Yeay!!!.... and Wallace is getting more and more recognition here, as well..<3
So, your hard work will be greatly appreciated by many of the new (& old) fans.
I saw Ep. 1&2 and cant wait to see the rest...Again, Thank you for ur time & effort :D
