Lau Carina was awesome as the horny gay Taoist! ....I think she stole the show!
Never thought I would see Little Tony do Three Stooges moves and noises...hahahah! .....
and all the gay jokes, ribbing at Leslie ... XD
"I am gonna steal your family jewels" ... "No love, no sleep, someone kill me now!" poor Qigong ...mwahaha!
I am sure there were a lot of inside jokes lost in the translation!
Funny, entertaining, but only if you want to see your favorite actors in their silliest roles ... lol!
I loved it! xD Although there was a rape scene, which I didn't approve of, it was still a good story and the actors…
No problem.. these r NOT on your list.... don't know ur taste, so several genres ... but all good writing, good acting (Weir? hmm?so what he's sexy) ... and strong female lead (although Janie sometimes is ??)
I prefer older lakorns, I think the writing is better, the characters are more developed, less 1-dimensional villains and MUCH less needless craziness.
Older Lakorns: --- MANEE YARD FAH - Willie & Anne - Princess & soldier - real romance, good story --- NUNG NAI SUENG (2004)- slap/kiss?? no! - Ken & Janie - love the witty banter, the teasing b/w them ... Ken as the angry/jealous guy who's in love/hate <3 --- SAMEE (2000)- slap/kiss - really good story, good acting by Phon...R-scenes --- TANGPAN GAMMATHEP (2001) -slap/kiss- Andrew & Janie- Very good, Andrew's great ....angst/ jealousy.... Silly R-scene --- REANG NGAO (2001) - revenge - Ken & Ann - good story w/ social commentary. --- LUK MAI KLAI TON (2000) - Very Rare ! - Andrew & Kob - Excellent acting! ... Rational male lead, an adult romance ... Andrew was great, stone cold yet very emotional when he revealed his weaknesses to her ... Sadly only 15/20 ep. are subbed .I watched rest raw, it didn't help bcz there is no action, this is all about their emotions and dialogue!... just put it on PTW, subbing will be done in few months.
Not too old lakorns: --- NGAO HUA JAI --- New & Noon - good writing, good acting, good characters... plot makes sense, no filler .... very good story ... lots of angst & jealousy. <3 --- KOO GUM - War - Bie & Noona - good story! (acting is soso)...R-scene. --- PROONG NEE GOR RUK TER - slap/kiss - Pong & Aom P. - good story, mainly due to Pong's anger, jealousy, angst..... too bad it has lots of typical lakorn craziness w/ side characters :P .... Rawr turned willing. --- ROY RUK RAENG KAEN --- revenge - realistic, refreshing.... good not-typical writing.... All characters are flawed .... lots of angst, jealousy and obsessive male.
Fun lakorns: --- Mam Gaem Daeng - Chakrit & Matt - jealousy, angst & Chakrit <3 .. fun! --- Duang Jai Akkannee - Nadech & Yaya --- lots and lots of fun! --- Rising Sun Series 1& 2 - Mario & Taew and Nadech & Yaya - good story, costumes, beautiful people ... and Yaya kicks A**!...#2 is fun w/ Yadech. --- Mafia Leurd Mongkorn: Suer - Ananda & Kim - Wonderful chemistry .... plot is bit contrived (weak writing) .... but couple worth watching. --- Morrasoom Sawat - Weir - as mafioso turning good... not bad :) --- Wong Wien Hua Jai - Weir & Pinky- so crazy it is funny.....> just put logic an reason aside, don't take anything seriously and enjoy!!!
I loved it! xD Although there was a rape scene, which I didn't approve of, it was still a good story and the actors…
I believe it is implied that the R-scene turned into "willing" ... when they suddenly stopped struggling and he gently lowered his head and kissed her ...and, when she got up, she said "what am I still doing here? he hates me", implying she reciprocated affection ... Also, the next time they saw each other, he teased about his "performance" not pleasing her enough. again, implying there was reciprocation.
I noticed in lakorns, they often imply that it somehow turned willing . The value system is such, that a woman should not directly agree to pre-marital sex (but rape is OK !?!? o.O ) messed up, I know! ... but I take it as culturally-specific, and won't let it ruin the show.
It is sick, the way that rape is viewed, not just in lakorns, but in Asian dramas in general.... But, they are changing bit by bit ... in the newer ones, they more often make it a willing scene, instead.
I love this lakorn, happy to see others liking it too :D
Thanks for the review and this along with Boss and Me were some of my first Chinese dramas.....I found the director's…
I agree .... He Yi Chen is a novelty in Asian dramas, he didn't jump to conclusions...and...He knew what he wanted...No compromise!
Wallace Chung has a lot to do w/ how the character came across!!! ... The maturity, the confidence, the rational side, and especially the passionate man inside ...
with just a twist of the neck, or a frozen smile, his expressed emotions break through the cold facade .... and reveal the longing, the angst, the pain, the suffering, the passion, and the love inside!
I have seen several of his shows & films ... Wallace has an air of confidence, intelligence and passion ... he is the epitomy of Smexy in every role!
watching his old lakorns, made me really like him.. Definitely one of best lakorn actors!
He did a fantastic job in Luk Mai Klai Ton ... completely different than his usual goofy self, and befitting of the character,
Thank you for this! ... So glad you wrote this article .... I agree , I loved all the things you mentioned:
He Yi Chen, especially played by Wallace Chung <3 .... Story .... Music ... the younger actors.... Also, all the angst, passion and longing , again, as especially portrayed by Wallace!
Love ur description of He Yi Chen, "He never fell for tricks set by his love rival to create complications in his relationship " ...
However, the negatives in this drama were big and made me really drop the rating:
Tang Yang was terrible!!! ... She did not know how to express the character of Mo Sheng :P ... her terrible childish wardrobe made it worse!
The drama started to drag big time at the end ... the repetitive scenes , too many flashbacks.
The ex-husband and his unrealistic obsession that dragged too long :p
Wish they would have shortened the story.
Only Ep 1-15 eng subbed .... I watched 16-20 raw, it wasn't difficult to understand what is happening..... If anyone finds ep 16-20 subbed, please post here!

Yes ... we all hate "Doormat"/ "Pathetic" characters .... way too many of them in Asian dramas (females especially).
However, I believe the actresses playing them make it worse. They cry, cower, pout, use child-like pitter-patter steps bcz it is the only way they know how to gain "Sympathy" from the audience....ughhh!!!!
I learned this after watching Jang Na-Ra in Fated to Love You ... ... she truly earned my Respect by showing that such "meek" characters can be portrayed differently:
She took a weak , meek , obedient , dumb doormat , "post-it" Girl .....and.... created a soft-spoken , super-nice , sensible & sensitive smart Woman ...
She gave the character DIGNITY !!! .... she became "Sympathetic", not "Pathetic"!.... She gained our "Empathy", not our "Pity"! ....
Any other actress would have made "post-it" girl a weak doormat ... (by putting their head down, pouting , over-crying, and cowering Needlessly!!!).
And Vice-Versa, I've seen too many lesser actresses turn a decent character into a "Pathetic" one!
So defining "Pathetic" or "Doormat" is not just the "actions" taken by a character (how the character was written) .... As JNR showed, such "weak" characters won't seem "pathetic" if portrayed by the right actor! ...

Very good story ... good consistent writing ..... not much filler (a lakorns plus) ... No Unnecessary Craziness (a good sign in lakorns.)
Imo, Johnny A. does not cut it as the Hateful male lead ..... He's just so so. . It is Off Pongpat that really steals the show .... He is a very good actor .... and oh my, so very handsome in a very manly way .... and Songyot is such a good guy!
Off Pongpat is so good as Songyot, he really should have played the guy out for revenge and let Johnny play the sweet nice guy.
Anne is always good and a pleasure to watch ... always strong smart female!
You always write amazing, detailed, well-researched guides! ...
I'll have to add a few of his movies now!.... Now that I am back in J-drama mode (after a long time awayo.O) .... First Yosuke K. then Yosuke E. ... It must be in the name :P
Edit: idk, maybe I'll start w/ Hajime Saito, u know how I love those badass badboys ;)
I am very happy to discuss this ...
--- and I must say, u r the 1st person I know, to also notice all the triangles!!! .... Amazing writing, right?
--- and the misunderstandings after the secret is revealed are natural... Of course they would, all 3 brothers, feel insecure about their new found positions.
--- Dong-Chul is one of the great characters in Asian dramas .... Selfless to the very end, willing to sacrifice everything for his family!... What I loved, is that he is NOT a noble idiot! ... He was smart, brave, focused and had a huge loving heart...I loved his tough guy exterior! ...and SSH is gorgeous! ....
--- I like your version of an ending, would've been great! ... but somehow, for epic stories like this, the ending was fitting .... sacrifice to the end ... the price of revenge! ... The only thing that finally made the mother let go of everything!
--- UGHHH!! Lee Da-Hae .... she ruined the perfect triangle w/ Dong-Chul & Dong-Wook ... Remember when she went to Japan w/ Dong-Chul (start of sth, right?)? ... she came back and then fizzle, she disappears .... That is because the actress was unhappy about her small role ... She quit! ... so they had to write her out after the drama had already started airing! :P:P:P ... Her character was good, but the actress made the character annoying!
--- Oh, and the only problem I had w/ the story is Guk-Ja's dad that was very stubborn, almost until the end ... When Guk-Ja is single later, he still forbade Dong-Chul from her ... By that point, Dong-Chul had already proven his abilities and loyalty! .... But, parents often do that, thinking they want better! :P
--- The love among the brothers is so very noble ... one of the most appealing factors of asian dramas, is these great family values.***
Anyway, it is all the layers in EoE that make it one of my faves and I've watched twice!
u wrote a very good review! ...... This show was brilliant on many levels .... many, many unforgettable scenes, many unforgettable characters .... and Oh My , those unforgettable relationships! .... all relationships come in 3's ... Oh... and the excellent lessons on "revenge" ... a journey indeed! BRILLIANT Writing!!!
The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is bcz of Lee Da-Hae and her character's development ... plus the romance is so typical of older K-dramas, not enough passion at first :((
Thank You for the wonderful guide!! ....Absolutely love everything about him!
His Artsy Quirkiness .... his Awesome Acting ... his Magnetic Charisma ... his Captivating Screen Presence ...... his Amazing Talent...
His fine Perfectly Chiseled Features ... his Sultry Penetrating Eyes ... his Radiating Smile ... ...etc...etc...etc...
