They could change certain things from the book, if they want. As you said, they have added extra scenes for the second couple for relationship development, which we didn't get from the book. They could have added more for plot development or adjusted some things/storylines where they still don't have enough screentime, but the scenes they do get are very packed in, but not too much. For example, they could have done their chasing arc a bit early (like this or last episode) and stretched it out a bit (without messing the timeline much since right now the couples' storylines are separate) or add more filler scenes like flashbacks of Wen Lang's past or what Wen Lang was up to during Gao Tu's last day. However, they had more scenes in the show than in the book, which I do appreciate.
Since they are the ones that wrote the book, they have full control of the flow of the story. If adding more scenes will mess up the timeline, they can change/adjust the timeline. It is not like they are bound to the book. A lot of book fans did not like the second couple's ending, so if they were to do it exactly, most people might not be happy with it. Just because it is in the book does not mean it is good, even if it is the original source material. I don't know if they are going to pack in their scenes next episode. If they do, I hope the pacing is good and doesn't feel rushed. Since so far, they have been getting around 10 minutes of screentime (recently, it has been a bit less), fans are not too hopeful based on the pattern. Then again, they could surprised me and give me at least 15 minutes of screentime or less than that, but very effective use of low screentime.
Also, there is a rumor that they are going to cut out storylines like the Ma Heng one or the Wen Lang's parents one, but we don't know yet and if they do, I wonder what they are going to replaced it with.
Personally, I am not surprised that Wen Lang & Gao Tu has less scenes since they are not the lead couple, so I am not complaining for the authors to change it. I just hope they have a satisfying ending, but I am not too sure since I did not like their ending in the book.

Either way people will complain lol but I think it will be different types of people that will complain. Right now, most of the fans of the second couple are complaining, but if the second couple gets a lot of screentime, most of the fans of the main couple will complain.
I think if the second couple gets a lot of screentime in 1 episode, I don't think a lot of people will complain, but if they get a lot of screentime for even 3 consecutive episodes, that is where the fight will begin.

Since the directors and screenwriters are the authors of the book, they have full control of how they want the story to flow. There have been minor changes to the second couple's storyline like giving them some extra fluff scenes and probably cutting some major storylines out. It is more of poor screenwriting in regards to what you are defending, but the directing is also poor too since the extras tend to be awkward like NPCs and the action scenes sometimes look awkward & unnatural.
However, it is a good try since this is their first time doing anything of this sort.

We don't know. I did hear a couple of weeks ago that the sisters (authors/directors) are planning to write a second book and do a second season if the book & show are successful, but the second season would be centered around Wen Lang's parents instead of Wen Lang & Gao Tu.
I don't think they are planning for a second season around Desire4. I heard they are planning different series for them in new characters.
The book did have a time skip, specifically for Gao Tu & Wen Lang's story. I don't know if they going to do that exactly like that in the show.

I don't know where did those rumors start, but to our knowledge, there is no reason that they would lie about their age. What proof did they show that they lied? For me, I would just believe their official confirmed ages rather than believe a rumor (even if it is true, they might not want us to know for whatever reason).

He don't know he has feelings for Gao Tu yet. Even now, I don't think he knows about his feelings yet. If he does know, which probably happened when Gao Tu asked to resign, he don't want to confess because in his mind, Gao Tu is in a long committed relationship with an omega and is expecting a child.
His backstory is not an excuse to his behavior and insults, but it is understandable on why he does the things he do rather than of pure hatred or pure dumbness.

There are only 20,000 sets of signed books, so the chances of getting a signed set is 1 out of 4 (25%). The set comes in 2 versions with the orange book representing HuaSheng (Hua Yong & Sheng Shao You) and the blue book representing LangTu (Shen Wen Lang & Gao Tu). The books are in the colors of the couples' pheromones. I don't think you can buy a version individually, so you can only buy a set with both versions.

The first time was with his omega father and now, it is with Gao Tu. For both times, he have been left in the dark with not knowing the real reason why they both left.
Wen Lang might have have a rude behavior most of the time (and his experience doesn't excuse his actions), but it is understandable on why he does that since he use that as a shield to protect his heart because he has abandonment issues.
I saw some said this on X and apparently, Wen Lang actually turned out pretty great considering he was raised by the mafia (specifically, his S-Tier Alpha father is the head of a mafia).
