Really lovely but what does "Boo" mean ? I really didn't get it, is it slang for lover in Thai (like Bae ? or…
The actual term used in the Thai series (per that song scene in ep 4) is ที่รัก, tee rak, which means "Dear". The English title is "Only Boo" which is like saying "Only Babe" basically.
The actual Thai title means something closer to Only Curry or Only That Curry. Kang's name means Curry in Thai, so it is like saying Only Kang. Kang is therefore the "Boo" in "Only Boo" and this is supported again by episode 4, in which Moo called him Tee Rak. :)
I am really liking this series because of the complexity of the characters feelings. Yuan probably both admires and loves Qian. He also feels grateful for him. I think Episode 9 made it clear that his feelings are real and not just infatuation. Qian on the other hand has very complex feelings. On one hand, he probably sees Yuan as the little boy he pretty much help raise, and on the other hand their is something about Yuan that he finds attractive. He is conflicted not because he wants to deny his homosexual feelings, but because he is having a hard time accepting that he is attracted to that boy he has cared for, given his name to, cooked for him, etc.
So I personally like this series a lot because this is not your regular romance story. It is really about how messy and complicated love can be.
I don't know if it's just me, but being American and watching a shows that has multiple seasons. Most of which…
hey, I and a bunch of others from the USA created a group of USA BL Fans on Facebook. It is a closed group/hidden group, so you can't get in unless you know someone. Let me know if you are interested!!! :)
Funny enough the series picked up the rating it has currently(8.7), because of E7. I really enjoyed that oneThe…
Episode 9 is really good. By no means it is perfect, but the emotional payoff is great. I would rate the ending scene in my very top of any series, regardless of it being BL or not.
I didn't find Episode 7 too bad. Maybe you were just not in the right mood. Again, by no means it is perfect, but it was a solid, well crafted, episode.
I like the chemistry between Jimmy and Sea here. I am not sure what you are failing to see. Earlier in the series, when Mhork plays with Day's hands, I thought it was really erotic. Did you not find that erotic too?
As for the proposal, yeah it was a bit corny, but I think if they are true runners, they wouldn't care. If I remember correctly they were already cooled down. People in Thailand are used to the humidity and sweating, and they are Asian so they have low BO, so I don't think it is hard to imagine something like this IRL. I thought it was more how public it was that made it corny. Like you say, similar to a stadium proposal. Its really a very high pressure environment. No way the lady will say no. LOL
ep 3 really hit home for mei lost my dog in a car accidenti guess i really needed to hear Milk's speech to help…
Oh I watched this right after my cat had passed away from cancer and I cried so much. That little speech he gave just hits you, especially if you are an animal lover.
Hello! I am a huge fan of Love Sick The Series. I have a blog in which I talk about the OG, the cast, the influence of LS on Thai BL, the history of Thai BL, etc. I just wrote a new blog in which I analyze the trailer. Here is the blog post:
You know about the speculations that Day might get his eyes back, right? One of the "contenders" for donor is…
Just quick correction here. Corneal transplants are only done using dead donor's tissue. There are some newer, experimental techniques for certain eye transplants that use only partial tissue and so, one can use live donors. However, Day needs an entire cornea, so his will always have to be a dead donor.
you just described my overall problem with fantasy-themed BLs so well, i can digest time travel when it's made…
Thai BL is directly derived from the Yaoi manga tradition. Yaoi is an acronym in Japanese for Yama nashi, Ochi nashi, Imi nashi ("no climax, no point, no meaning"). I believe it was something that either started as a self-deprecating joke or something non-yaoi readers used to call the stories. The entire point of a story was to get two guys together. You can see the roots of Yaoi in some BL novels, like Love Sick or anything in the mame-verse (TharnType, LITA, Love by Chance), or novels from the Cutie Pie-verse. Some Thai-BL authors are more Yaoi than others. I do like my stories less Yaoi-ish, actually, so I am not a huge fan of Mame or Cutie-pie (I did like TharnType and parts of LBC).
I would say most Thai BL writers are Japanese Yaoi fans and they take a lot of things from Yaoi, including the concepts of seme and uke and associated tropes and archetypes.
This series was adapted from a YAOI manga. The characters don't need much motivation to get together other than the fact that the writer wants them to end up together. That's just the nature of Yaoi.
There are definitely better adapted series and series that break from the yaoi mold, such as Stay With Me, or Only Friends, though they may really stray from the BL mold. Others thread the line between queer and BL narratives, such as Gameboys or Bad Buddy.
But I digress. As I said, the joke is that someone is complaining about BL not having plot, especially one that we know is adapted from a Yaoi novel. Just the fact that it is Yaoi should be a hint that your expectations can't be too high :) And I don't mean that as an insult to this series, which I am enjoying. I just think it is funny someone would complain about that.
Two episodes in but at this point I wouldn't call this soap opera.
I can see that. I usually associate soap operas with high drama. Like, the lover gets run over by a car and ends up in a comma while his lover's uncle owns the hospital and now he wants to secretly have him murdered by the nurse who is secretly dating his uncles lover.
Like complicated, highly dramatic, and highly unrealistic plots ;) That's soap opera to me. But yes, its also shallow :)
This low rating proves once again that MDL users simply have no taste! This drama was Amazing!!
I think a lot of ppl dropped it. I am very close to dropping it. I am on episode 4 or 5 and it is just boring. I love Title and his character's relationship with his brother is interesting. I am sorry to say that Phat is a very boring character. He is like Mr. Perfect. Just nothing interesting. He is a doctor, he is sweet, he is smart. Blah blah. Saengtai is a bit more interesting, but pretty vanilla overall. Saengthian is more interesting and his relationship with Lom has more going on for now than Tai and Phat.
It may get better later, and maybe the ratings don't reflect that because too many people dropped it before the story gets to the point. :O
Gosh age gap! Its legal for Mac to do this, ngern?! 55555
Probably. I think it does require the parents to sign off on it but Thailands age of conscent is much lower than the USA. However, Thai censors also come into play.
I am starting to think that this adaptation will be very different from the book. No sex, maybe some quick smooches. Nothing too intense.
Okay, but is he the originator or scriptwriter of this racist series or just the actor who plays the character?…
You are applying western concepts and ideas into Southeast Asian culture. Its great that you want to advocate for Thai people of color, but the issue is more complicated than representation. And I say that as someone who also gets annoyed at the blatant colorism in BL. I hate when they make the actors look more white, bleach them with makeup or by using lights or in post-production.
There is not much the actors can do. A full time actor in Thailand has to grab every opportunity they have. Its not like they have many channels and studios to choose from. I would definitely not put any blame on the actor.
It is really about the culture. People in South East Asia, even people with dark skin, believe that dark skin is ugly and unhealthy. They think light skin is healthy and beautiful. That's just how they see it. And who am I to argue? Sun exposure does increase skin cancer risk. They may have a point.
What we can do is support the few actors who are dark skinned and make sure the studios know the international fan love them and don't have a problem with them being dark.... :)

You will have a kick out of this blog I wrote in which I detail the ways in which Love Sick has influenced Thai BLs. Check it out!!!
