We will see. This may go either way. I agree that Nohs character is not easy to get right. He is pretty complex. I am not worried about Mick or August, those are flat characters, but Noh, Earn, and Phun are more fleshed out. We will see!

You clearly have forgotten the original and, like many others, you are not thinking about the way Thai series are made.

We have now a "trailer" of the series. Unlike in the West, this trailer is shot by itself. The series was not fully casted until recently. I don't think principal photography has started. The series will most likely be shot next year. By this time, the actor that plays Noh will be 15, which is EXACTLY how old Captain was when he started filming the series. In fact, I remember reading an article where Captain said he turned 15 in the set of Love Sick.

The actor who plays Phun is also about the same age as White was when he filmed Love Sick. The youngest actor is the guy who plays Mick. This actor is 13 now and will turn 14 next year. This actually mirrors the original casting of the actor who played MIck in S2 of Love Sick. He was 14 when the series was filmed.

So all in all, I say most of these critiques about the age of the actors are not taking into consideration the production cycle of Thai series and are conveniently forgetting the age of the original cast.

Your comment is coming off as transphobic. Transwomen are WOMEN. As shown in the series, Yai is heterosexual. I say as shown because of course, we don't know much about him at this point. There are people who are exclusively attracted to pre-surgery trans women, others are not and would only date a post-surgery transwoman. So where in the heterosexual spectrum he falls, we don't know. Only thing we know is that at the moment, he is shown as being heterosexual, that is a man who is attracted to woman.

Yes! A little. He is a cross of Singto and Peak (From Make It Right). I think he looks a lot more like Peak, but I have also thought he looks like Singto. Glad, I am not the only one!

I too did the calculation to USD. With 1.5k/mo USD, assuming he has his motorcycle paid off already, and he lives in an inexpensive area of Bangkok, he should have plenty of money to cover all his expenses and have a ton to spare. As you said, he gets fringe benefits, such as food and it seems like room amd board (lol). He does have to pay for gas, but i assume thats not too costly.

Its not useful to calculate hourly rate. Its best to look at the living wage. I did not look it up, but having considered travel to Thailand and even living there, i can assure you that money is more than enough for a local to live like a local.

Progress being 14 can be an issue. I admit that in the clips he hasn't come off too strongly. He is almost a mirror image of Season 1 Captain and not in a good way.

It is possible that by the time this airs, they will have workshopped this to death and they will be much better. Again, maybe that is the optimist in me. We shall see!

Thai BLs do this a lot. Like in Bad Buddy you get Pran and Pat hiding their relationship like young closeted gay men do but it was because their parents and friends didn't get along. I think its called "coded". So, in The Sign, the character of Phaya is coded as gay. Of course, that is just my opinion.

I agree. The OG series is MAGICAL. I love it so much. I don't know why people can't see past the rough directing and the low budget quality. This is simply one of the best love stories ever. It is simple but so beautiful :)

They also will tell the story of Ohm and Mick and Per and Win, so they are not sticking to just the novel. I hope they hire a good writer and work with the original writer of this story (Indrytimes) to craft a really good story for those characters (which are technically her characters).

Well, times have changed. After Love Sick, we did get Love by Chance with a 17 year old Perth kissing and making out with a much older Saint. So, I don't know that their age will be an issue.

As far as it being boring like the original, I doubt it. They have an opportunity to improve. If they stick to the main story told in the book, I think it will be very good. They can probably do it in 1 season, maybe if they do 18 episodes.

The acting doesn't need professional actors. They just need a good director. Gemini and Fourth did pretty good in Moonlight Chicken and they were pretty much two newbies and both were pretty young. I think Fourth was 17 and Gemini was 18.

:( I love Love Sick. I don't think it was perfect, but the story is pure gold. And Captain's acting improves a lot. Actually, so many good BL actors came from Love Sick: Gameplay, Captain, Ngern, Sing, Na, Gunsmile, Toptap... I especially like Captain and Gameplay's 10 seconds are pretty good. Sing and Captain improve a lot. Ngern was always good. Na is pretty natural. Toptap is decent. White also improves but he never gets better than average.

I forgot to mention that Phaya getting constantly teased by the other guys feels very much like they are treating him like he is gay. He is getting gay bullied. But again, the presentation is not really very direct. It is almost an insinuation.

Well, I am sorry to say, even if I don't agree with his main thesis, he does have a point. BLs derive from Yaoi and Yaoi has a very specific formula. I do think this series conforms to the BL genera, but that's because I have a much nuanced definition of BL than he does, but a lot more strict than your definition. BL is not GAY or QUEER cinema/series. BL is very different.

This is a BL because the main characters are straight-acting men who have no real reason to be together other than the writer wanting them to be together LOL Also, they have no previous history of being gay or liking men, at least not at the moment. And that fall and kiss was 100% pure BL fantasy. Because Saint is involved, we are getting some gay characters (the side couple?) and it feels like both leads are gay, but I think the presentation is a bit ambiguous: we haven't heard the male leads talk about having male exes, or dating guys in the past. We will see, but I am guessing that they will either leave it ambiguous or they will not address this at all.

I have always defined BL as gay romance which is not queer-centric. I think BL is starting to evolve and it is becoming more queer-aware (eg. almost anything that comes out of Aof production team). For a great example of what queer-aware BL looks like, look no farther than Gameboys or anything from the 2020s Philippines.
