Harsh critic? I find a lot of things about this original. The gay uncle, the mother struggling accepting her gay…
I am not going to change your mind if you already have decided you don't like this. I find interesting you are struggling with Vice Versa, just like I am, so I wanted to give you a different perspective, given that you and i seem to share similar tastes in BL.
What I find unique about this, as I explained is not the hetero romance but the way they have integrated it into the story. You see, in most BLs (if not all), the hetero couple is a side couple. Take out the couple's story and you still can fully understand the main story. Here , the hetero couple is an integral part of the BL couple's story. I also like that they have made me interested in that story. Normally, I don't give a crap about the hetero couple but here I feel like I am very interested in what will happen. They also made the character of Mook an interesting character. I loved when she said "I was planning to go alone to the awards". She is not the kind of woman that needs a man.
The mother IS struggling. She is not rejecting the son. She doesn't have a "problem" with it. In Tonhon, we got the accepting mother. In most other series, we get a parent who rejects the lovers or wants to interfere. She is simply learning to accept him. Struggling may not be the best word. Sorry. She accepted her brother and now she will accept her son. I think it is beautiful to see it from the parents perspective. It is rare in a BL to see the parents talk about what is going on with the son in such non-judgmental ways. That is why I think this show is unique.
You have a good point about the mom acting without any indications. You aren't the only one. A friend of mine had the same exact complaint. The reality is that the conversation was ambiguous enough that we don't know if she is suspicious because of the (obvious) flirting that X displays or if it is because of something that she sees has changed in Q. Being the mom, one would assume her motherly instincts tell her something is different about the way Q is treating this boy. IDK. Maybe it is the fact that Q acts like he "hates" him. We all know the old trope of you hate the boy you like. I think we need to see more to know what exactly is going on with the mom. But that one minute conversation they had was more than we get in most BLs from the parents at this point. If anything, most BLs rarely address this issue of parental acceptance, and when they do, it is only used to add an antagonist to the story, not to create a separate plot, like they did here.
So overall, I say this is unique, and it is going into the Thai BL history list for me, at least at the moment.
I cannot, it's so cute! My guilty pleasure right now. I like XQ's dynamics. It's quite obvious in ep 2 that X…
She is OK with it. She is just struggling like any parent would. She probably always suspected it, now she is confirming it, and she needs to "let it sink in". I don't think she is not supportive of him. Her brother will probably help her deal with it.
Really enjoyed Episode 2. They're not wasting any time. Q is already starting to have feelings for X, and his…
The mom was just worried about him going out so late. She may also have wanted him to slow things down. IDK. She clearly is ok with him being gay, though she is also struggling a little with it. I loved that bit of the series and I am really excited for this series in general. One of the best series currently airing IMO..
I'm seeing complaints about Q's mother. It's quite clear she has zero problem with being gay - she didn't even…
Hey, I agree with you in a lot of your points. I will add that the complains about Q hitting on Mook is more about this trope of guys making it a competition to win a girl, like the girl has no agency. Having said that, it is VERY clear here from the get go that it is the girl who will do the choosing, as it is explicit in the rules of the "game" itself.
For me, I give them a free pass because this is such a common trope (we see it even in Disney movies and series), and because Mook is such an interesting character that they get points for that.
I don't like this. I don't know why, I just find this...lame? Stupid? Unrealistic? Unoriginal?I'm watching this…
Harsh critic? I find a lot of things about this original. The gay uncle, the mother struggling accepting her gay son, the mom KNOWING before he knows (they always say parents know before the child), having a straight romance as a side couple with a well developed story that is interwoven with the main story, having an age gap side hetero couple....
I think there is a lot to like here. May I dare say, this is better than vice versa?
So they decided to give 1min (or less) screen time to the most interesting couple of this series (Tim and Mai)?…
At first I thought Kim and Mek had chemistry but lately, I am not sure. I am watching mostly for Bomb and Bear and for Park and Lee. I think Tim and Mai have an interesting story, but I find the pacing of their plot arch to be too slow. Look at how fast all the other couples moved, and this one has taken so many episodes just to get some kind of love confession? :(
And this is a shame because I think the two actors do have chemistry. I haven't seen Ep 10 yet, but I understand they kiss. Hopefully, its a good kiss.
The scene where Lee jumps on Park had me screaming like a fujoshi. Anyone else? I LOVE this couple! I also love Bomb and Bear. Too bad the main couple lacks that chemistry and magnetic personality. I love Earth and the guy who plays Mek is not bad either, but something about that couple is just off. IDK. Anyone else feels the same way?
Who is Sing? I'm not sure who that is? My main shock is how young the actress playing Mild is. She looks about…
So the one link is to a guide to Thai BL that explains what Seme and Uke are. The other one is for a podcast I host with a friend and the specific episode I linked is one in which we talk extensively about the virginal Ukes, etc. We also did another one in which we talk about Toxic Semes and we went into some detail about how some Semes are overtly toxic.
Hey, loved hearing the podcast! I also listened to the one about toxic masculinity. Do you think you could share…
Well, this is Dr. Jose and as you imagine, I agree with a lot of what you say. It is Sister Unity who found him annoying. I thought he was endearing.
One of the good things about our podcast is that we sometimes have opposing views, but you wouldn't be able to tell sometimes because we never argue, at least not on air ;). I think we all come from different backgrounds and we all have different views about the characters. So I am super chill. If Sister wants to complain about something, I let him go at it. He has the right to feel however he feels and the right to express it. I do the same. :)
I am glad you liked the podcast and I am very happy to hear you are getting into BL. Make sure you listen to our Bad Buddy podcast after you watch the series and also I suggest you listen to our top of 2021, so you can take note of some of our suggestions!!!
Be warned, we are critical of the series. Cutie Pie had great production values, but the plot was convoluted and the series had some serious issues with toxic masculinity!
I've been saying this since the story was first announced. I mean I know people learn at different levels and…
While we may disagree, i am glad you know understand what i was trying to say. I guess for me a more natural reaction would have been, "wait, they had 2gether in this universe too?". To which she could have said, "oh no. Blah blah explain the whole things about travelers etc".
In general, he should expect everything to be the same and be surprised about the differences, not the other way around.
I've been saying this since the story was first announced. I mean I know people learn at different levels and…
yeah, that's fine. You still don't get it. We are at an impasse.
I will try one last time.... If both universes have a country named Thailand, why is he not surprised about that too?
I think this could have easily been resolved by inserting a line saying that the production company he wanted to work for doesn't exist in this universe and that that company was the production company behind 2gether. Then he could be like, Oh wait, how do you know that line if this company doesn't exist in this universe? How did 2gether get produced?
Definitely took me out of the series but it wasn't a big deal.

I think pointing out plot holes is fun. Sometimes it can take you away from the series, but you can still love the series with its little plot holes and other issues. Heck, one of my all time favorite series is love sick and I am sure you can put an elephant through some of the plot holes :D
I've been saying this since the story was first announced. I mean I know people learn at different levels and…
You can't see the plot hole?
I totally get the dialogue. My point is how did he know that they had NOT AIRED it in THE ALTERNATE universe? In other words, why was he surprised? He wasn't surprised that there are cars in the alternate universe, and he wasn't surprised they had elevators, but he was surprised they had aired 2gether in that universe? Just seemed very convenient.
I mean, it is a small thing, but it did bother me a little.
