Where to start with this mess… I feel like a lot of people are ignoring the problematic nature of this show…
Well this is the same director as Why R U? and You Never Eat Alone. I think he likes to portray mental illnesses and loves camp. It also probably explains the uniforms.
They switch. It was confirmed by P Aof himseslf and it was pretty clear in ep 11 were Pran was the top
Its funny to me that you both say that when I talked about so many other things in my post... but the only thing you both cared to comment on was the top/bottom thing.
Anyway, I rewatch the episode and I guess it can be read as they are a "vers" couple. I am fine with that, and it is actually a good thing that the fujoshis are upset. It means Aof was effective in his messaging. Good job. I retract what I said about it earlier ;)
Am I the only one who thinks the finale wasn't as good as the rest of the series?
I wish they had ended it on Ep 11.
Also, I found the editing of Episode 12 confusing, and the pacing was off.
I know, I know, it was a great series and its getting a lot of praise and it deserves it, but those who say this is perfect are getting carried away. I would say that Aof's best work is still He's Coming To Me, by a MILE. I think the acting here was great, the directing was very good, but everything else was just OK.
Here is how I would put it:
Acting: This is definitely the best BL ever in my humble opinion. Ohm and Nanon are kings.
Directing: This is Aof's best directing effort, but in terms of substance I feel like He's Coming To Me wins hands down. The only thing I didn't like, compared to this one, is the climax of HCTM which was a bit over dramatic. In fact, Bad Buddy's climactic scene was thankfully not overly dramatic. Thank god.
Writing: There was a lot of clever writing here but in terms of BLs, I think Gameboys and Love Sick, for example, have much better written and developed characters. I would say this is top-tier, but not "the best"
Breaking stereotypes: I do think Aof made an effort and succeeded in many fronts. Why Bad Buddy? IDK He has directed other series and he has used stereotypes and tropes to drive the plot plenty of times. Maybe he got tired of the Seme/Uke tropes or maybe he grew a consciousness and some balls to break the stereotypes once and for all, BUT we need be specific here. Aof broke with certain tropes that are narrative devices in BL, but he did not advance the LGBQT representation. I don't think that was his intention anyway, but the way some folks are talking about this series makes it sound like he did. He certainly did not. What Aof did is that he tried hard to reject tropes and stereotypes used in BL. However, those tropes were built into the story (because it was not written by him), so there is no doubt, for example, that Pran is the Uke and Pat is the Seme, and that Pran is a bottom and Pat is a top. The final episode made this pretty clear to me. Maybe I read too much into it, but that was how I interpreted it.
Your review is not vey accurate. For starters, they kissed twice.
Sex is never implicated.
Phob not being a good singer is part of the story. He sucks at singing but is good at song writing and playing guitar. Thats why loosing his hand was a big deal. He also drew btw....
When Phob sings at school, he makes Nut smile. He sucks. He knows he is a terrible singer. He is gutsy and thats why Nut likes him. It is evident to Phob that Nut has feelings for him because he smiles and seems happy to hear him sing. If you have evr fallen in love with someone who doesnt have a great singing voice, you had understand.
So: 1) "that man from lbc" is Mean Phiriavich 2) Mean is the director of the movie 3) his part is sooo small 4) in general, he is a good actor. He isnt great but he is competent
You are generous with your rating. This was one of the worst BLs of 2020!!! Started solid but did not end well and i am not talking about the tragic ending.
Sister Unity and I analyze the use of color, the story structure and the queerness of the series!
The BL Clinic is the only podcast dedicated to the analysis and discussion of BL series and related topics from a queer perspective!
But i get what you are saying, so many series and movies here have overinflated scores!

Phun and Noh also switched, but that was not the norm either. And I am happy with that, but it would be nice if it was just left to the imagination.
I wish they had ended it on Ep 11.

You want this series to be something it is not.
1) "that man from lbc" is Mean Phiriavich
2) Mean is the director of the movie
3) his part is sooo small
4) in general, he is a good actor. He isnt great but he is competent
