In the next episode the evil teacher will tie the student protesters to the railroad tracks while twirling his…
I am getting so annoyed by the student protesters and the evil teacher that I hope that happens and that the teacher gets rolled over by the train too. That way we can continue with the rest of the plot. LOL
This actually happened to my boyfriend once, hahahah. We were in an empty classroom together with a friend. My…
You know what is driving me nuts? That they are protesting wearing uniforms thought they still wear uniforms! They should just all refuse to wear their uniforms. Maybe they should all wear fundoshis and go to school like that. OK, maybe that's too much, but I digress. Oh, where was I? Yes, I think that the protesting is a bit silly. I don't really understand what they are protesting at all. Is it just the uniforms? Is it the coverup of the destruction of the signs? (How do they know it is the school?) Is it the many rules? Is it the cult like meetings were they tell them how they will end up in jail if they don't behave?
Also, one thing that has bothered me is, why is it that Ayan not wearing his uniform don't get him in trouble?
I agree with you about the curse. I might be mistaken, but there seems to have been a sudden, unexplained change…
You haven't watched a series with a seatbelt scene? Really? It is so common, I have a hard time thinking of specific examples!
Love Sick had it. I think MIR had one with Ohm and Toey. Pretty sure we saw it in LBC. I am also pretty certain we had a scene like that in SCOY. Also didn't Love In The Air just had a scene like that? I am not sure. Kiss Me Again or Dark Blue Kiss had one, because I remember New and Tay in it.
The cliche is usually, the Seme leans over and tries to unbuckle or buckle the Uke. The Uke then gets scared that the Seme will kiss him. Usually, they don't kiss but in some series they kiss.
I would too. Ayan is so aggressive. You know, I normally don't like this trope but it works here so well. Part of it is the actors make it work and part of it is that Khao knows how to be sexy and hot without being an asshole. He is great in this.
Uke reticence. Yes, Rain is the poster boy for it. I am watching but I am only going to watch one more episode…
I guess it depends on how we define Seme, but there may be some exceptions to that, though I don't think it invalidates your general point (which I agree with 100%).
So the exceptions I can think of is Sun in Dark Blue Kiss (I think he was the Seme), Tun in He's Coming To Me (I believe he was the Seme and he came out to his mom as gay), Tharn in TT was an openly gay man and... I think that may be it? I am sure I am missing one or two more.
Gay Ukes on the other hand are more common, though it is still rare for a BL character to use the word gay. Chonlatee and Pete are the most prominent examples of a gay Uke, but I would say that all the Ukes in SCOY were gay, the Ukes in Cutie Pie were gay (I think they used that term, right?), there was one gay character in MIR who was an Uke, and Mork in My Tee was presented like a gay boy coming out to terms with his sexuality, just to name a few.
It is also interesting how being gay has not made most of the Ukes less propense to the syndrome of Uke Reticence. They all suffer from it usually. Pete did in LBC, we also saw it in SCOY, and Cutie Pie, but not so much in My Tee and MIR.
P'Mame never disappoints ... Love in The Air is on fire so far my favourite scene is that Spanking scene they…
You know, I didn't like the series and I don't think she puts any effort in writing good dialogue BUT I agree she has a talent for finding good fits between actors. MewGulf was a great fit and these two have great chemistry and look very good together. It is definitely a Mame thing. If you watch ANY of her series, the chemistry is just off the charts.
Let's not forget if Phayu didn't save Rain those bouncers definitely must have killed Rain for compromising the…
That whole thing was preposterous. A race with loud music and trucks with huge lights, people eating popcorn, in the middle of Bangkok. And it is secret?
This comment section better not turn into cutie pie 2.0 where everyone argues instead of accepting opinions ðŸ˜
Simple. Let people express what they feel and don't argue with them about it. If you don't want to argue, just don't.
I hated Cutie Pie. Loved the actors. Hated the series. This one has many of the same ailments. It is not my cup of tea.
You like it. Fine. I don't have to like it.
I don't get why that is a bad thing. Live and let live. There are many BLs I love, tons. Maybe some of them you like too, maybe you don't. Maybe you will find my posts praising Love Sick to be annoying, or maybe you will find my posts about how much I love Ohm in Bad Buddy annoying. IDK. We all like different things.
So don't complain about the negativity in the boards. We come here to vent sometimes and I think it is part of being a member of the BL community.
I like this better than I thought I would, but an 8.7? Really? What makes this work for me are Rain & Sky. Rain…
Uke reticence. Yes, Rain is the poster boy for it. I am watching but I am only going to watch one more episode and if doesn't get better I am out. I do like the guy who plays Rain. He is a good actor. I have two issues with this series. First, the Uke and the Seme are walking stereotypes. Dumb Uke, smart Seme. Cowardly Uke, fearless Seme. Uke is useless around cars, Seme is good with cars. Uke is broke, seme is rich. I could probably go on.
Now, I have always admired that Mame is good at recreating the feel of Yaoi in Thai BL, but sometimes she is overly reliant on these tropes, which though tepidly, Thai BL has began to breakout from (e.g. Bad Buddy, Tonhon, The Shipper, Vice Versa). At the root of these Uke/Seme tropes is the binary that is generated by adherence to rigid hegemonic masculinity stereotypes. The Uke is the woman and the Seme is the man. Mame has to be understood through this lens, the lens of heteronormativity. The second thing I don't like stems directly from this: because I understand Mame through this lens, then every time the Uke is weak, I see a weak woman. When the Seme rescues the Uke, I see a man rescuing a woman. It is all the same trash that we get from heterosexual romance, but with two guys. Some times, I love this about BLs. But here, I don't like it. Maybe, because it is too in your face, or maybe I just don't see any romance going on. I am drawn to BL because of the romance, so this is just not doing it for me.
So, unlike you, I am not really sure if I will keep watching for long.
Thankfully, the non-consensual stuff has been toned down. It is still there. It is still Mame. But I don't think that is my main complain. My main complain is the fact that two MCs are walking tropes and that the romance is lacking.
(Someone said this is TharnType with motorcycles. Rain is Type. Phayu is Tharn. I think that may also be another issue I have... )
If the father here talks about his death one more time and doesn't keel over, I'm going to scream. Please dad.…
All true. The randomness of the mirror was especially jarring to me. The dad in his pajamas asking the son if he had graduated like he was asking him if he had eaten was confusing to me too.
The plant thing is confusing too. So, the plant is not in the sun, so it does not photosynthesize and turns white, then why is it still alive?
I am starting to see a possible connection between him not breathing underwater, the plant and how he acts, but IDK. I am not sure. Maybe I am reading too much into it. Maybe the plant is just a plant, and Khim is aquaman.
If I ever wonder why Thailand wont always cater to their international fans for certain shows and bl series, all…
I actually find venting about what I don't like in a series almost therapeutic. Why do I watch something I don't 100% like? Sometimes I watch in the hopes it gets better, sometimes I watch because I like the boys, but I complain about everything else, sometimes I watch even if its bad because I want to support the series, and sometimes I watch because I have to (more on that later). The reality is that there are many reasons we watch and there are many reasons why people complain. I have a podcast which I produce with a friend who is a professional actor and director. I have watched series I didn't love because we wanted to review them (cough Cutie Pie cough). We both enjoy reviewing series, and part of that process is criticizing what didn't work, but also finding things we like, and trying to understand what the director or screenwriter (or actor) was trying to convey. I also come to the forums here to get a sense of what people are talking about, so I can talk about it when I do a podcast review of the episode. (I don't think we will do one of this one but who knows. We will definitely do one on My Secret Love, which just ended).
I'm a little at a loss. I'm trying to understand why Rain & Phayoo are so much more engaging than Sun & Kim -…
LMAO Oh you made me laugh too. This was very funny. I had a lot of the same thoughts watching this. Noh is also the main reason I am watching. I am glad I found some fellow Noh lovers. We should start a fan club LOL.
I haven't watched UWMA (don't judge me! I will eventually!), so I can't compare Ohm's acting to anything else he has done. He is playing a tsundere here. However, you are right that when it came to his alter egos, he played them with the same beat. Frankly, he is just not very good. I think he hasn't made the character he is playing interesting. The monotony of his character just sucks the energy out of every scene. Even when he is with a competent actor like Fluke or Noh.
BTW DId you guys noticed the apples are gone? The apples played such an important role for so many episodes that it felt weird not seeing them in this episode (and I think the one before too, right?).
Don't get me started on how ridiculous Fluke looks trying to play the guitar. He struggles even putting it on his lap. And who told him that experienced guitar players LOOK at their chords and play them in slow motion? At least Ohm tries to fake it, but Fluke looks so uncomfortable. This is 100% the director's fault.
The big problem with Khim and Sun is that they are a very vanilla couple. A quiet Seme and a shy Uke. They know each other since they were little. They hate each other (frankly for no reason). One is rich, one is poor, yada yada yada. They are just a walking trope. And it doesn't help that as you point out, Ohm is acting like someone told him "just look like a wood board. No emotions.", and so he did. My wood desk shows more emotions than he does. They could replace him with a cardboard cutout of himself and no one would notice. Again, I blame the director.
The only interesting and believable romance right now is Phayoo and Rain. The other boys are all gorgeous to look at but Phayoo and Rain are sexy and a half. I think we should add the music teacher to that Phayoo-Rain sandwich. Then maybe, I can add myself to it.
(Episode 7) Although I like this series, there are times when I feel that the dialogue and behaviour aren't quite…
I agree about Rain playing the cello just seemed out of place, but regarding his reaction to Payoo, he does say to him something along the lines of "you are free and I am not". I think he said that bc he feels like his parents would be mad if he went out with a guy. It seems like he is the "good son" and needs to fulfill his parents expectations, which don't include getting involved with the buttler's son.
oh myy god! that ending?? he has a twin??? I did not see that coming 😯… the plot thickens. are they both…
I think that's why Mork 1 asked Mork 2, "wait, what happened last night?". So, Mork 1 met with Tiew and he really had no idea what Tiew was apologizing for. So Mork 2 was with Tiew at the Pool.
Oh, this is gonna make my head explode LOL I need to watch it all over again.
Also, one thing that has bothered me is, why is it that Ayan not wearing his uniform don't get him in trouble?
