I dont agree. This series is good but it is not a seismic change. Also, it has a lot of plot holes and issues.…
My disagreement has nothing to do with budgets. Every single issue I have with this series has to do with the script and maybe the direction.

I can give you three great series with low or very modest budgets: Love Sick, Hes Coming to me (same director) and Gameboys.

I also think this was a really good series so I am only telling you where I think it could do better and why I dont think it represents a shift in how bl is produced or created.

I thank you for clearing it up. However, understand that I can only judge the series itself on its own merits, not the novel.

I think I understood two things about Tian's reasoning of why he left:
1) He thought that Phupa no longer wanted him there (but then we get that scene in the cliff where he is counting the stars so why did he leave again?)
2) He left because he has a duty to his family. This is something more Thai than I can understand since I am not Thai.

So yeah, I did want to give it the benefit of the doubt but it really just took me away from all of the emotional scenes at the end.

In the series, this sort of internal reasoning that you describe was 100% lacking. We never learned that from Phupa (or did I miss it?).

I view this very differently. I felt that we were given a living community that this story was taking place in.…
I know this is fantasy, but IRL this is not how gay relationships work.

My issue is not with the realism. I just think there is a disconnect between the character's chemistry and the character's actions. The chemistry is at a point in which a kiss would feel like the natural thing to do but they keep beating the bushes.

I was reflecting about this earlier today and I had the thought that in Love Sick, Phun and Noh kiss before they even acknowledge the feelings they have for each other. They have sex. They then proceed to spend the next 30 or 40 episodes between being a couple and being friends, but that's another story. My point is that Love Sick is as romantic as it gets and as fluffy and BLish as it gets, but the kissing always felt natural.

I can't say that about SOTUS, but at least they dragged the kiss to the last episode in which the love confession happened. Here, I felt the love confession was way earlier. Maybe it wasn't verbal but it was there..... But GMMTV still dragged the kiss to the last scene. (GMM or the author of the book, IDK, maybe GMM just likes stories that have kisses at the end or maybe Thai ppl do IDK).

No. Internal to the couple. I am talking about typical couple issues instead of always having a grand dramatic physical separation. Its either a girlfriend, an evil ex-girlfriend, an overzealous or homophobic parent, or all of the above (pretty much Tonhon).

Something subtle, like Meet me Outside, that's what I want to see more of.... Heck, I think Love Sick had way more moments of internal conflict than any modern Thai BL.

This is what having an ACTUAL plot means!!! Yes I'm talking to all the creators who are still stuck in the world…
I dont agree. This series is good but it is not a seismic change. Also, it has a lot of plot holes and issues.

I also liked it because it felt original but the separation of the lovers is a trope we have seen before. I really wished that BLs relied more on internal conflict rather than external influences and external actors that keep the lovers apart.

In the series, Tiens dad asked Phupa to let Tian go back home because his mom missed him or something like that. He had to do it bc his dad is hos commander. Phupas words not mine.

As a gay man, it didn't feel natural to me.

In the scene in the hospital, Phupa is told by dad that the mom wants Tian back. He then says something along the lined of he has to do it because it is his commander.

And even if I somehow missed something, it still doesnt explain why Tian seemingly followed what Phupa told him to do when he clearly didn't want to go.

I guess for me this was particularly frustrating because up to that point I liked the series because it was more about Tians self discovery and journey to forgive himself. He may have arrived at the village out of guilt but he stayed out of love and Phupa should have known that.

I started out really loving this show and ended it with a different opinion. I do still think it's a great series…
Agreed. The kiss should have come sooner. It made their relationship unnatural.

Also, the reason Tian left the village was just strange. Phupa pushes him out because dad wanted Tian to be with mom as mom missed him but then mom is absent at home for what seems like weeks. Then you have the unresolved conflict of the bad guy. Did he get caught? Is he still able to terrorize the village? Did i miss something?

I had to force myself to watch the ending.

The other weird thing was the airport scene.

Did something get lost in translation? I didnt get why it was ok for him to go back to the village after college but not before. They should have explained that better.

Since we haven't seen it, we don't know what this is about exactly. However, I am appalled that you think any…
I need to clarify....

1) I am coming mostly from the angle of, I haven't watched it, I can't judge
2) The REALITY is that directors and actors do work closely together and just like sometimes a boss and his or her employees can have a romantic spark, so can actors and directors. NOT ALL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN AN ACTOR AND A DIRECTOR ARE ABUSIVE because they could meet before or after they have work, they may happen to meet because they hang out some place etc. I think people that makes this kind of blanket statements are exceedingly judgemental and sanctimonious. It rubs me the wrong way tbh.
3) I don't think directors, especially in Thailand, hold that much power over an actor, which is why I made that comment about how I "define" harassment. Of course, I would say that if it was an actual executive producer, a director/producer, etc., I would say that asking an actor out would be highly inappropriate and could be abusive but in the case of a director, I would just say its unprofessional but not abusive. A director is not in a position to fire an actor. However, I can see how he or she could make life difficult for the actor and how it could be uncomfortable to work with that actor but here is a question: where do we draw the line? Because.frankly another actor can't fire you but he can make your life hard and it would be super awkward to work with someone who asked you out so is it also harassment when an actor asks a fellow actor out? I don't think so....

The so called #me2 movement is fine. I support the principle behind it. I just sometimes feel like things can swing too hard to one side and people often are too quick to judge. Here we haven't even seen the series and people are already deciding they won't watch based on a bunch of assumptions. Just tells you how their mind works. Quick to judge without all the facts. Let's allow this guy to tell his story and then we will judge.

If this turns out the director tries to romanticize an abusive relationship, I will be the first one to denounce it.

Update: I finished it. ForthBeam got a lot better. MingKit could have been given more time. The Main Couple was the weakest point of the series but it is not the fault of the actors, both Earth and Ben did well in their roles. I think the issue is more with the writing and directing....
