Well, you have a fundamentally wrong concept of how bleaching works. It is NOT BLEACH. What they use are high levels of anti-oxidant, namely vitamin C, which "bleach" the pigment granules by reducing them. I am not saying I think it is safe, but it is not harmful as far as the epidemiological data suggests (e.g. I have not heard of it being tied to any type of cancer. GOOGLE IT if you want to make an INFORMED decision about this because right now, it is not informed).

Tanned skin is the norm in the USA but it is also the norm in many parts of the World, including Europe. I may have made the wrong assumption that you were from the USA but I am pretty sure that if you think colorism in Asia is an issue, then you are not Asian and unless you are African (where colorism is also an issue), my guess is that in your part of the world having a tanned skin or going to the beach and not wearing sunblock are pretty common. Skin cancer is an issue almost everywhere in the world where people have light skin, except Asia because Asians are either less susceptible to skin cancer or perhaps because this cultural tradition of avoiding the sun so as not to look dark.

I always thought that Sky was a better actor then Ace.
Me too. The problem is the crying scenes. Inaki is doing better with those scenes while Miko seems more natural and better and spitting out a line without sounding like he just read it.

Both of them need to become better at this craft but I think they are both growing into the characters and becoming better with each passing episode.

The last scene in Episode 8 was decently acted and brilliantly done. I thought Inaki carried the scene almost by himself while Miko just went along for the ride and did well too. It was all Inaki in terms of the emoting...

It is a part of the Filipino culture, one that should change but in the meantime we can enjoy the show and try not to pass too much judgement. After all, in the USA tan skinned is what is "in" and people tan themselves to cancer and burns, so it isn't like the opposite is completely without issues. At least, Asians are aware of how the sun can damage the skin. True that they take it to an extreme but who are we to judge?

I don't really have a problem with it. Same goes for women. I think there needs to be protections put in place…
I agree with you 100%. Note that I am also a guy (but I am gay).

I think objectification is when a character in a show or movie only exist to tantalize the viewer or when a character's whole existence is to show his or her curves/abs on screen. Objectification is when a character's sole characterization relies exclusively on those physical attributes. I think you need more than just showing some skin even if the purpose of showing skin is to attract viewers.

You know what drives me nuts is that the difference between objectification and modesty is so subjective. In some cultures showing your neck is seen as very sensual, while in other cultures showing your feet is sensual. Furthermore, most women wear certain clothing that accentuates certain parts of their body so if they show that on TV, is that objectification? What about having a guy wear tight jeans, is that objectification? If a guy has beautiful eyes and the director insist in closeups of the face and showing the actors eyes, is that objectification? Where do you draw the line? Why is a SHIRTLESS man objectified and a well-dress, handsome guy, with his shirt on not objectified?

Why not just have the ugliest people on the country play this roles? That way there is 0 chance of objectifying.

This is ridiculous.

The gross comment was meant in response to someone saying the word "gross" in the comment section. I can't remember where. Look it up.

My gender and sexuality have a lot to do with this topic. As a gay MAN I am attracted to other men but I am also a MAN and therefore I have a unique perspective as I am both the objectified gender and the one getting gratification from the objectification, something a woman can't feel in this particular case.

The issue is not with objectification but with the perception that objectification is somehow bad. This is where I disagree. The objectification of women in TV is bad insofar as it makes women one-note characters whose only value is in their physical beauty. When it comes to men, these almost never happens in TV. A man is valued for both his physical attributes and his non-physical attributes.

A good example of this is Trinity in the Matrix. She wears a suit that accentuates her curves but she is heroic and plays an important role in the movies, yet she sacrifices herself for the male White savior. The suit she wears is not the problem, it is her characterization and her role in the story that is an issue.

This article makes a lot of assumptions. I am a male and currently I am not fit but when I was fit, which I was…
Ok, so here is my problem with this: I don't like where this is going. If we say that we should not have any more shirtless scenes or somehow have less such scenes, what exactly are we saying? Are we trying to go back to puritan times?

See, I also have an issue with saying something about it being a type of body shaming. Every research paper out there shows that less body fat means a longer life. Admiring and promoting a healthy body type is OK. If we keep saying it is ok to be fat, we are going have to pay for a lot of heart surgeries, strokes and other health conditions.

But I digress.... My point is that this all starts with our attitudes towards the male and female body.

The reason that having a female character dress in skimpy outfits that showcase her body is bad is because it is usually done at the expense of characterization but we don't generally see that with male characters. Often the shirtless scenes are meant to portray an image of virility, health or physical strength. It is never done at the expense of characterization...

Again, at least for me this article is wrong in all kinds of ways....

Please, men have objectified women since before TV existed. Now women get a break and are allowed to objectify men and all of a sudden it is "gross"? Really? The human body is not gross. It is beautiful. It should be celebrated.

I need to take a deep breath... as a gay man I find this article extremely disturbing and anachronistic.

This article makes a lot of assumptions. I am a male and currently I am not fit but when I was fit, which I was when I was younger, I would have 0 problems taking my shirt off. In fact, I once did a play pretty much naked. I had to sign a waiver and most actors do this when they say yes to a script that has any skin in it.

Sometimes mydramalist really surprises me with the depth and quality of the articles in a negative way...

Title Gameboys
Without even watching it completely, you're judging it and then talk about freedom to criticise...hahah
What many critics are calling one of the best BLs of 2020. What many Filipino BL critics are calling the best BL from the Philippines.

I think you are missing something that you don't even know you are missing but that is your prerogative.

Which is your favorite BL?

It is my #1 too of course! I am only talking here about production quality (sound, editing, cinematography and acting).

Only show I have seen that rivals Love sick in terms of a beautiful love story is Gameboys ;)

LOLThailand has been doing bl series since 2013.
Where are the SPONSORS for Addicted? Where are the fan shows? Which countries?

The reason we say SOTUS is the beginning of the internationalization of BL is because SOTUS had sponsored events all over Asia, including (if I am not mistaken) Korea, the Philippines, and either Taiwan or China or both...

Keep in mind that SOTUS had the full backing of GMM-Grammy, the largest entertainment conglomerate in Thailand and surely one of the largest in Asia with an ability to reach out overseas. This is something Addicted, a web drama, was lacking. Despite that, Addicted was very successful but it wasn't an international success like SOTUS.

I hope you understand why you were wrong in your initial statement. Japan created the BL genera. Thailand made it commercial. Love sick was the first BL to air anywhere in the world as far as I know, as an exclusive BL series with the BL couple as the main protagonist. Furthermore Lovesick aired in one of Thailand's government owned channel, making the feat even more amazing. After MCOT showed that a BL show could be successful GMMTV took a gamble that paid off and produced SOTUS, which was the first BL with high production values.

For more info read my blog article on Thai BL:

The story of BL starts in Japan. That is a fact. Educate yourself before starting random internet keyboard warrior fights with others :P

Hollywood is the start of what? Do you even know who shot the first film? Where serials come from? Read a bit more before you start this type of silly arguments...

You and I think very differently....
This show was the first one to do it so if anything others copied Gameboys and jump on their bandwagon.

I don't think @Onyot said anything wrong. Some people do come here to troll (e.g. look for attention) while others genuinely want to express their dislike. We can't tell who is who that easily...

You are free to say whatever you want but I find your words a bit harsher than they need to be. You don't like this, that's fine. You think it is boring, that is fine. You think it is not original, that's fine (albeit incorrect as I stated above), but to say it is crap and "sorry you love this crap", well that I think is crossing the line into the personal. You are no longer being objective.

Of course, this is just my opinion on your opinion ;)

I think this show is brilliant and should get more recognition outside of the Philippines. I don't know if you are a Filipino, I find some Filipinos are the harshest critics of their own productions. If you are Filipino, you should be proud and excited that so many of us non-Filipinos are adoring your actors and are supporting your productions. Even if you don't personally like them, you have to recognize that the success of this show will surely help other shows which you may like, just like Love Sick helped TharnType and Love by Chance become a reality. Without Love Sick there will be no TT or LBC or even Gameboys. And so many new BL fans don't like Love Sick, yet here we are....

I am sorry but you have no idea what you are talking about.

Addicted did nothing to open anything. It came out years after the first Thai bl series. All of the Thai BLs beginning with the very first ones had Chinese money behind them of some sort or the other.

The BL that opened up the international market was SOTUS, though both Lovesick and MIR had international fans. CopyABangkok did some international fan shows for MIR but it wasnt until GMMTV got involved with SOTUS that things really exploded.
