I like this show.
not sure how closely the donghua follows the source novel in terms of scene by scene but this live action moved things around quite a bit compared to the donghua.
I think they were attempting to create a sort of love that spans different lifetimes type of vibe, but it doesn't seem like there was enough source material for that type of thing. So, when they did it the way they did in this drama... it felt lacking like some of the people are saying. The past events should've been a quick flashback or narrated prologue even.

The story starts in the present time (him talking to the little girl outside the cave). It jumps back in time to tell the story 100 years ago. It's not time traveling lol just the timeline of the story is being shifted.

bro that was not a flashback. that was literally their first "date" in present time lol. they never dated or even met in the past before zhuo rui arrived in beijing.

iicrc, when she was young her father was a POS that made her mom sleep with people for money. either bc of the abuse or the father was thinking of selling Ms He He as well, her mom poisoned him one day. can't remember if she also suicided then or died eventually. anyway, when her mom passed away she went to the streets to beg for money to bury her mother. nobody would help her and said her mom was "dirty" and doesn't deserve to be buried; told her to just dump her mom in the wild for the animals. then someone harassed her and asked if she was "dirty" like her mom and attempted to assault her. she was saved by a young XFN, he put a super expensive hairpin on her mom and had her mom buried. afterwards she has been killing bad people and collecting hairpins.
she has been helping xfn to pay back for helping her back then, she's not working for anyone and there's no bounty for killing him like she has been saying.

lol I THINK that was her backstory. some details might be messed up but that's about the gist of it.

xfn's nickname for JN is "clay statue" in the novel lol.. there is a reason why she's stone face and no expression before.

I'm reading the novel right now and it seems like the season will end with the conclusion of book 1 (chapter 210). I'm on chapter 200 rn and things have started to pop off, Wudi city battles are underway. Hong Xi Xiang has come off the mountain!!

yea I watched 17 and 18 without subs so I'm not sure, but I think they were both strategizing on how to win the 8 or 9 sales cases that yang lu had held back from signing in the previous eps. It seemed like zhou rui might've tricked huikang into chasing a particular "bigger" case while Ye Chao Dong and Yang Lu focused on winning more of the smaller cases.
Their little squad meeting in ep 18 seemed like they "won", and they were congratulating ye chao dong but then he was acting like he's done with it and was leaving the company soon or something.
lol I'm gonna have to rewatch 17 and 18 when subs come out.

I'm getting the feeling like fang wei is gonna turn bad guy and become a vengeful student vs mentor later on.
he's super stressed about money right now which makes him want to succeed fast at all costs. I watched the 2 most recent eps without subs but he's already forging signatures to make progress with his sales. our good boy is going to the dark side it seems.

btw, luo jia looked so freaking pretty in the orange dress and hair tie during their dinner date at her house.

yea I think that part where they talked about her background in the novel was when she took the spear out from the carriage to fight the #11 dude. I just got past those chapters, onto visiting his eldest sister now.

the novel translation is kinda sketchy but it seemed like it was her dad's spear, her dad killed her mom or something lol (again the translation was bad so idk). but yes, xfn's mom did bring her back when she was young.

qing niao is best girl. she's outclassed by all these masters that show up to kill xfn but she puts her body on the line fighting every time.
