Not a subplot we want to see TBH - daddy emperor showing her kindness in the early episode is enough to establish this interaction/relationship. It's probably the most historically accurate element in this drama LOL - old emperor/infantile concubine - but still don't want to see it played out. Eeek

MJH’s past trauma goes way beyond just being misunderstood and ostracized for 10 years - we get to see and come to understand the physical, psychological and emotional pain he went through. Very poignant.

This here is more than likely very realistic of ancient China - emperors with their numerous concubines.

Will definitely visit discussion - episodes 1-4 are beautiful. Might have to watch them again when it goes on viki as the subtitles are so much better there. On Youku the subtitles are kind of like they’re done by AI and move too fast.

YQ is a morally weak person from what I am gathering so far, has obsessions but no true convictions with lots of trivial skills but no real life skills…morally weak characters are easy to manipulate and he’s easy prey for the CP.

There is love and then there is obsession…some of the characters are starting to reveal their true nature.

The novel has been a point of interest due to it being very controversial but I totally agree with you that it is best to just go with the flow of the drama especially as they have had to change it so much to get it through the censors.

He was only pretending to be red flag…tho he is shades of grey because he uses FL and how grey his methods are to achieve his goal remains to be seen

The make up is done very well in KMLM. In a lot of other dramas it is often so heavy the facial close ups are sometimes 😬

Mei Lin does have agency, she has her own motivations, so not entirely a pawn.
