PSA to the gays out there: You don't need to be anyone's secret.
By all means, let others take their time to come out of the closet, and work things through in their own time, and their own terms. Doesn't mean you have to go back into the closet with them. Even for love.
Yes thats the biggest gripe i have with K bls we get these great pairings and chemistry but those actors Rarely…
Things might be changing. One of the leads from Where Your Eyes Linger has just starred in the remake of The Wedding Banquet, and Nam Yoon Su might do another gay project soon. I didn't think I'd see the day when KBL characters have a proper kiss, let alone use the word "gay". Let's hope the trend continues...
This show is groundbreaking in so many ways: the real kisses, the prolonged intimacy, and above all, when Jeong U says, "I'm gay, or maybe bi".
And, of course, I'm hopelessly in love with Jeong U.
However, I see the gears of lazy writing kicking in already. We're going to have a manufactured crisis next week, aren't we, replete with miscommunication, noble idiot syndrome, and a last-minute reconciliation? I'm so bored of these.
It's like I'm under a spell every time Choi Jae Hyeok is on screen. I hope this role will bring him many casting…
I've been watching purely for him. But I was gobsmacked this morning to hear the word "gay" uttered in a KBL -- thereby breaking one of the biggest taboos in BL. I'm still searching for my lower jaw on the floor.
For real! That series was such a disappointment. It sucks because the two had such amazing chemistry. I loved…
Yes, the contrast couldn't be greater. Heesu did everything possible to erase and hide the gayness of its protagonists -- to the extent of putting straight people at the heart of the narrative. By contrast, as I say above, this is the first time in KBL -- so far as I can remember -- a character has explicitly identified as "gay". This is such a big deal that it feels almost revolutionary. Hang on... I need to take a photo of the pig flying across my window.
Hugs really are the missing element in so many series! And here they hug with the whole body, the way real people…
Oh, what about the planking sex, so beloved of Thai BLs, where no part of their bodies touch! You'd never know that the top was topping... half the time, I assume that the actor is just trying to improve his core strength, and waiting for someone to hand him a protein shake.
Did a character in a KBL just identify as "gay"? Did they in fact *use* the word "gay"? Did I just see a pig fly across my window? Are KBLs finally growing up?
it's from Mainland China but it's not airing in China, that's why they don't need to censor anything this is not…
As always, we can rely on you to be informed about Chinese/Taiwanese BLs! Thank you for your detailed reply. Yes, I have seen quite a few of them: but what struck my attention was that a couple of them of late have been more explicitly romantic than "bromantic" (yuck). Like Blue Canvas and, from the looks of it, this one. I suppose your first sentence answers the question I had: I just hope there aren't any negative consequences for actors/crew for taking part in them.
I've seen a few BLs from China popping up of late. Has the censorship somewhat relented, or have the producers found creative ways to make them by moving the production/producers outside China?
The power dynamic in the show flows entirely in one direction: Sorn is the older guy, Jun's boss, and is more…
Oh no, I didn't say that at all, or implied it! I don't think any consent was violated, and I don't think Jun was ever unwilling (as I say below). I meant 'initiation' more in the sense of sexual awakening: that's why I was careful to say sexual "position", rather than sex. I also meant 'initiation' in the sense of who made the first move -- and it wasn't always Sorn. After all, it was Jun who initiated the sex that led to cottaging, so it wasn't only because Sorn was the one who always *wanted* it. Rather, Sorn was *almost* always the initiator. Wanting something and initiating something are quite different, aren't they?
I agree. Some people are acting like Jun is a victim of SA. He is not. Sorn's a dick too, but too many give Jun…
To be honest, I really don't have a personal stake in this debate. But no, I heard it as Jun, however awkwardly, saying to Sorn: "I have told you multiple times I like you. Do you like me in return? If so, say it." That said, I'm not going to adjudicate on his choices or his words, let alone him as a person. In any event, people speak of things like 'pressure' as if it were absolute, and as if such lines were easily drawn in real life. I've lived long enough on this earth to know otherwise. Not to mention the fact that, by the same logic, we can say Sorn has been pressuring Jun the whole time, and throughout the series. Which, for the record, is not quite what I believe.
I like Sorn. I like Jun. I neither condemn nor praise either of them. It's messy, and fiction wouldn't be fiction without a good deal of mess. All said, I just don't find the arguments against Jun convincing.

Yeah, people love spouting homilies here about the importance of proper communication in a relationship. Fair enough. (And, I, for one, get genuinely infuriated when people don't communicate, esp. in JBLs, where the characters will gladly do monologues, but never dialogues.) But imagine if the characters did speak their hearts: BL as a genre would cease to exist!
I love JBLs, and have missed them. But at moments like these, I wonder why. It pisses me off.

And I'm still haunted by the beard.
Meanwhile, is this any good?
