This, to me, is what we might get if the Office were written by Mame, scripted by ChatGPT, shot on an iPhone, and directed by a gay porn producer... Which is to say, it is unique!
I think it's going to be the same as the BL of Yim and War, people like them.
You're right! I just checked the rating for Jack & Joker: it's 8.8! I haven't seen the show, so I don't know if it's deserving. But it does seem inflated.
I found your review helpful, though I'm sorry you got attacked for it -- especially considering the fact that you didn't rate it all that negatively!
What I don't understand is that there are 90 other reviews out there, also after just one or two episodes, praising it to the skies, and no one seems to take exception to them, or even comment on them. A person or two dissents, and out come the mob with pitchforks and torches.
I am neither attached to this series nor actively dislike it, but I do get annoyed when dissenters get dismissed or attacked.
Also, a fascinating question for future ethologists and anthropologists: how does this show already have 94 reviews, 95% of which are 10/10? how is it also the case that the few negative reviews are attacked vociferously, and downvoted relentlessly, while the perfect reviews go untouched? and why is this phenomenon so peculiar to Thai BLs and their "ships"?
I hasten to add, I have nothing against this show. I'm neither excessively fond of it nor truly dislike it. I'm just curious about people's behaviour.
We're looking at 10/12 episodes over at My Golden Blood and struggling to cross the 7.9 mark, but here 2 episodes…
Happens often. Two explanations:
1. Most series start off well and then lose steam midway through. So do the viewers. And so the ratings get revised. I'd be surprised if the ratings didn't go down here in a few weeks.
2. In Thai BLs, the "ships" seem to matter more than the series itself for a sizeable number of people. And, looking at the comments, this is NewZee's Land, and the rest of us are foreigners.
It's because Interview with the Vampire, True Blood, Vampire Diaries, Twilight, are masterpieces next to this…
I don't understand it either. But people do get attached to the "ships" beyond all proportion, even when acting, writing & directing are all irredeemable. It is a fascinating phenomenon that ought to be studied by ethologists.
About to dig in.
