omg the first line lolll . but I didn't think he was trying to convert him. basically in denial
No, I know that. But it's what happened to me! My date, the missionary, was as hot as the self-loathing philosopher here. Can you imagine my disappointment when I realised I couldn't climb that tall hot smoking mountain with my alpenstock?
I... knew... it. I told you not to trust philosophers! Urgh.
Reminds me of the time when a very hot guy kept hitting on me, only for me to find out, after our first date, that he wanted not to kiss me, but *convert* me.
have you watched all episodes ??? they did more than lying in the bed lol
Oh, only up to the third! I should clarify!
Edited the previous comment to make things clear. Thanks! I suppose I have such low expectations for displays of gay intimacy in Korean shows that I had given up. I'm now excited because of your comment.
I thoroughly enjoyed the third episode -- despite the sappiness of the last third. Many parts of it could have been taken from my own life or that of my friends.
Yeong, girl, run away! Don't ever go out with a philosopher! Trust me, I nearly married two of them. They are bad news!
Also, *so far*, this show puts the coy back in coitus. Why give this a 19+ rating, when we see nothing more than men lying in bed together? Just for a decent kiss? 🙄 Hope the later episodes rectify this grave oversight!
I recently rewatched Queer as Folk (UK) - I forgot how amazing it is!
Yes! It came out in 1999! Can you believe it? 1999! 25 years later, it still remains just as fresh and radical as anything queer anyone has written. Accursed Americans, who made that damned remake, which took everything that was good out of it, and made it into a godforsaken soap.
At the end of the second episode, I'm still really enjoying it. It feels very familiar to me from my 20s in London. (Admittedly, the show is nowhere near as bold or radical as Queer As Folk UK, which broke every boundary possible.) The script is a bit uneven and messy, and the pacing all over the place. What intimacy we have seen so far has been coy, though good by Korean standards. But... it feels *real*. Not realistic by any means, but *real*. As in, this is something that has been distilled out of lived experience. I haven't seen like that here in a long time.
Perhaps I'm cutting it more slack than I should. For the moment, however, it remains the Korean BL/LBGT series I have enjoyed the most.
I'm not one for superlatives (as my profile page will amply indicate). But this is the first Korean BL/LGBT series I've enjoyed this much in a *loooooong* time. (If ever?)
Maybe because it's actually written by a gay man, about gay men and their friends, and where our gayness isn't erased... Maybe also because, at least so far, this series has charm, verve, and humour -- proving that there is more to gay life than just begging for acceptance or searching for prince gormless.
Haha. Yes, this review is the fruit of long hours spent with KBLs! That, apparently, it applies to Kdramas in general is an added bonus (or bane, depending on your point of view)!
This is immensely hilarious and creative, kudos to you my friend! Still, quite sad you've decided to give up on…
Awww... Thank you!
I've not really quit Thai BL. It was my sardonic humour at its most mordant. (I have slightly adjusted the review so that people don't think I just hate Thai BLs.) To be fair, this show really did make me angry!
If you have any suggestions for Thai BLs I should watch, please do tell me! I'll give them a go!
Do you mean this show is better than all the Thai BLs? I haven't seen many Thai BLs of late, but I can imagine!
Awww.... that's so nice of you to say!
As for this show, I do wonder if I'm near the bottom of the barrel, at least this year. I haven't been excited about any show since HOTE, but then, I do get to write amusing reviews because of some of them!

EDIT: I walk back my last comment. Praise Jebus!

EDIT: Actually, a friend here also offered to send me some BL cuts of other dramas. Maybe I'll ask him for those!
