For GJ when he accepted the project, from what I heard he would be accepting anything offered to him because he realized that he had no choice at that time (he had no liberty to choose the script because he still needs drama portfolio under his belt). While ZZH, from what I heard, his fee alone supposed to be 2 digits (I don't know how much exactly) but he lowered it down for this drama because he had no job at that time due to pandemic.
Hopefully after this many opportunities will be wide opened for them both because they really are talented actors.

Just read a comment in Weibo and Douban and I would like to share the rumor here that SHL initially was planned to have 45 episodes. According to rumor, it was scheduled to have around 30M Yuan (= USD 4,5M++) budget, however suddenly it got cut for whatever reason they had. The production team has managed to finish the job with only 50% of the original script was shot because lack of funds. According to original script, there were supposed to be several fight scenes that if you film it with the treatment based on the script, it will take 15 days. But without money, they reduced everything. If you notice in the drama, the product placement of nuts, that's Woolong Daily Nuts the only investor for this drama.
With this information, no wonder that the episode feels rush at the ending because I can imagine how they had to change and to compress the story from 45 episodes to 36. Also if you notice during BTS videos, the props are so so because they used green screen and the crews working behind the scene are not that much.
But if this rumor is true, I really give my standing ovation and big appreciation to the people working for this project because they've done an awesome job. Also please give more appreciation to the actors and lead actors, I don't know how much they got paid with the budget being cut like that TT TT. Because really, top A lister in China can get pay for 160M Yuan for himself/herself alone.
