They weren't separated by external force like what we've thought. They talked things out and decided separation was the best. Dad even knew what was waiting for him (the worry free curse that will make him forget Mom). But they still made that decision anyway. Love is really beautiful. Like what the Mom said, love doesn't always have to be kept. Sometimes it has to be let go. And because of that, the fruit of their love (Ziqi) was able to survive
How can people think that this is not a happy ending! The ending is soooo sweet soooo romantic, 100 times better…

Book Ziqi already confessed to Miaomiao that he has liked her pretty much his whole life (in the real world) and all his books were actually written for her. Book Ziqi is also real life Ziqi as rl Ziqi pretty much wrote the story with him and his circumstances in it. Who MM fell in love with is the same book Ziqi and rl Ziqi - yes, his actual name is Ziqi as shown on the medical records and Fu Zhou is a pen name. And in the real world, MM already likes rl Ziqi (as Fu Zhou the author). When they finally meet, it is so easy to see how things would play out. They would catch up (they already knew each other before, get to know each other more, and they'd spend all the time recounting about MM's experience in the book and what Ziqi/Fu Zhou actually wrote. Of course they end up together. It's a happy ending everyone. Not an open ending.
