Like others have said, the first episodes were quirky and fun but once the mother character is introduced it goes flat. They just should have focused on the office romance aspect and the push and pull of the attraction the two leads feel for each other.

My married nephew had an affair that resulted in a child. Believe me, it shocked the family and my sister and brother-in-law were very ashamed. My nephew is now with his affair partner and their child. The family has accepted it cause what else can you do? Affairs are wrong but it was a reality for my family. Maybe that's why I see it differently.

I agree. I had no problem with the eldest sister's character. I liked her and there were some very comic moments in her affair. I just think men and women should be called out equally.

I find this interesting. So often in comments on this site, male characters are called out for having affairs. Now I am married 35 years and do not condone affairs but these men are having affairs with women. Both parties are responsible for their behaviour. To me a single woman having an affair with a married man is just as bad.
The eldest sister is really the worst if you think about it. The wife begs her to stop and for selfish reasons, she doesn't.
It's crazy unfair how japanese dramas are rated here. How a masterpiece like this has a 7.6 rating, but thousands…
I agree with you. I loved this drama. All the subtle nuances that established each character were crafted with care. There was a depth to each character you often don't see.
I feel some of the characters and situations are too over the top, exaggerated and forced. I thought I would love some of the sisters but none really have unique personalities. By contrast, the Japanese drama 'Asura' about 4 sisters is amazing. I felt a real connection to every one of those characters.
I loved so much about this drama. It really deserves a 10 rating. But about Makiko - I thought the scene in the…
Even with that 1970's hair style, she is beautiful! I still don't really understand that last scene with her husband though - where she says she knows he didn't cheat? It left me confused. Do you know why she said that?

I was just talking about my favourite Makiko scene : )
However I think the scene you refer to is interesting in contrast to her confrontation with her dad. Cause she is very matter of fact with her mom about the infidelity of their husbands but both are simmering with rage.
I was not familiar with this actress before and she is wonderful.
This was an amazing series. I was so invested in every character. Their interactions and dialogue were so true to life - so authentic. Yes, there is infidelity but the characters don't become caricatures - they are all three dimensional. So even when they are doing wrong, you can still see redeeming aspects of their personality. Like the father's relationship with the 8 year-old son of his former affair partner. I actually think that relationship was more important to him than the one with the boy's mother. He didn't abandon that fatherless boy after the affair ended. For me, watching this series was like reading Tolstoy - delving into the human condition - celebrating and finding beauty in everyday moments. It deserves a much higher rating IMO.
This drama reminded me my good friend taylor swifts song tolerate it. A complex story about the perspectives of…

But about Makiko - I thought the scene in the hospital, after her mother collapsed and she confronts her father about his infidelity was her really confronting her husband about his. She was really speaking about her pain.
