What I would love to see it's this famous expedition that ended so baddly, the one they talk about in UN. Pure ZQ story

Me too! ChenPi made good character when old in WX adventures but in M9 he was the pest. In all his cruelty and fixation on his master wife they made him so cartoonish character that I could not take him seriously. They just wasted the potential here.

I watched till 20 and nothing about this particular exchange but we did not started snow mountains part yet. I am curious how they are going to pack majority of written part of book in so little episodes left, not to mention rest of it. In the book WX did not accomplished his mission, he got sidetracked by, I guess, Wang agent, to fight Yama King (here Night King) so I think they are going for simplification maybe? Putting Night King as a mission from begining? But if here the girl is sister of ZH is the whole Zhang's Hong Kong branch corrupted? I hope not I like this Haike guy even if he is obviously plotting something. Another thing, in novel the girl said to WX that she is not Zhang, or implied it (or it was translation error?) and WX confirmed that she is not wearing face mask so I was very courious how this coud be solved.
It is annoying that you not only have to speculate the plot but speculate adjustements between novel and drama, LOL!

Bai was kind of cute, they only overdid her. The blind girl was just unnecesery. M9 has the same issue with this sick wife, she ended up so annoying. But I loved Zhao Liying character.

I like WX in Reunion, but I may be biassed as I like this actor very much, he moved to movies lately and improved so much. The Reunion problem is that is rather chaotic, they had some editorial issues. I would say WX was one of strongest points of the show. But this is my personal opinion.

Ah, yes, Lt Zhang was the best addition that strayed from the novels. And keeping the same actor helped. The simmilar, blank faced humor that sometimes they allow XG to display, just more frequent and obvious.

You do not need to but you will be confused about characters background and motivations. Another option is go to explanations here below or google Grave Robbers Chronicles (Daomu Biji) universe description. But if you have time try to watch UN, it's good (and somehow lighter that this one, at least at the begining)

I speed read the novel again (and marathoned the episodes) and yes in novel the Night King is mentioned in the scroll that describe ZQ trip to the lake which WX read still in the temple before meeting with Zhangs. In fact Zhangs did not told him that Night King is mission, his mission is to find the master bell that can remove effect of other bells and then use it to enter another place. plus nothing that take place after the temple is in the book. I do not complain as those parts are entrtaining but still I wonder how they go back to the origin and the rest of novel context.

I always wandered, bunny need to eat, too. So you bring food that need food that is not available on the mountains. Is it really productive?

well, in novel only ZQ went into the Gate, if I remember well. I have no idea why the consistency with the novels is always the worst when author is participating in production, ironic. I have the feeling he wants to experiment with some new directions but he keeps confusing audience more and more.
He should stick to writing books and leave dramas to producers like those which did UN.
Honestly, I sometimes wonder why those are so addictive when I would normally be smearing them for all logic holes.

I marathoned whole 20 episodes and I got so confused that I had to go back to novel. It is very different! I like some changes, like pacing the ZQ memories through the events so there is nice balance between things from the past and curent story of WX. But a lot of things were added that the are not in the book to current timeline including reason to go to the mountain. I kind of like the changes, they add to adventure, I just wonder how they are going to switch back to original context of novel. Looking forward to the rest of drama.
And after so many episodes I really like this new WX, I even used to this face of his, the actor playing WX is so good at portaing his current state of mind. His subtle interactions with ZQ projections are highlight of the episodes.

If I remember well from the novels, they at some point faked his death, as Wengs infiltration went too deep and XH was under attack. They had to give him space to plan and coordinate action against Wangs. I am not sure (as I read those long time ago) if it took place during this part or Sand Sea, second make more sense too me. I don't think it was included in the drama. WX faked his death too if I remember well.

I can't watch the prison part in instalements, it's too nerve wrecking. I will wait till end to watch it in one go.

I don't remember it from the book but there could be 2 reasons:
1. he has the same pj as in the movie about him working on restoring Black Glasses vision, so it could be the same time period.
2. Spoiler and I am not sure about time line on it, could be during Sand Sea so I would rather not put it.

This show is coming from author related company so there is the chance. On the othere hand he is famously not the best at adapting his own work..

The powers looking for immortality is quite old theme, so merge of archeology and modern research kind of make sense, in crazy kind of way? We were never told what Ultimate is and there are those ancient event/experiments that produced Zhangs line with elders trying to make "super Zhang". Why not try to recreate it in modern lab, LOL? And we have metorite in UN, that's science, ;)
