I don't know how to say this in a concise and less offensive manner but I am glad we finally have a complex and 4 dimensional female lead in a cdrama. Now don't get me wrong, there are a few cdramas with complex female characters, maybe I haven't watched them but this is the best I have seen so far.I feel female characters are so simply written nowadays, they are either naive and selfless, stubborn and stupidly brave, innocent and cute etc.. They have at most three defining qualities which is really unrealistic. They are good to a fault. With Niao Niao, it is shown that human beings aren't so perfect. She's the female lead but we still have people who dislike certain qualities about her.. she's not perfect and that's how it's supposed to be. She's a good person but doesn't let off people who have done her wrong easily...she fights tooth and nail for the one she loves. I love that she fought for her right to marry Luo Yao for so long, this shows she isn't selfless. she's naive in some aspects of life but still quite intelligent. She has issues like she doesn't know how to pick her battles, she's implusive and overly curious which many people many not like. She didn't fall head over heels for the ML once he confessed his love for her. She doesn't give out her trust so easily.I could write so much about Niao Niao's character. This is something I can't do for the female characters I have watched in many many cdramas.This isn't something specific to female characters only, I think a lot of cdramas lack character structure and building. Love like the galaxy deserves praise because not only do they excel in building interesting main characters but also in the side characters.
I disagree but to each their own...it was slow for four episodes because it was introducing the family dynamics and Cheng shao shang....After that, it became one of my top 5 costume cdramas.
The acting isn't over exaggerated, the characters that are supposed to be annoying aren't artificially so and the side characters have a fleshed up story.

The ending of episode 26 had me wheezing. That family breakfast was awkward for real. I was cringing internally and laughing so hard. The story💀 Mr. Ling Buyi is not normal at all. When he arrived with those armed guards, I knew it was over. I can't wait to see how he finally gets along with CSS and her family. But this was hilarious and I can't wait for episode 27.
Her Brothers were so scared... second brother immediately drank the wine. Ling Buyi really has a long way to go.
I must say Yuan shen deserves a slap. He is so sulky for what. I understand him liking CSS and being in denial but I can't accept CSS slander at all.
Plus the verbal exchange between Ling Buyi and Yuan shen was epic...Yuan shen saying that Ling Buyi will most likely die first because he's a military officer (Observation skills on point). I don't know why but I found myself staring at Luo Yao in the background during that scene. My boy looked so done with both of them

I don't... especially close to the ending. she's foolish to say the least. People may say she's just sentimental but I disagree. One can be sentimental and intelligent at the same time like the emperor.
She's brave but what is bravery without direction. Her character is disappointing when you look at all the other more intelligent, scheming and interesting characters like Qi Yan, Yanzhi, Qui zilliang and others surrounding her.
I think 7.4 its great rating consider how many haters Lusi has and dramas with young actors usually don't get…

I recently just started watching cdramas and I have watched a few of her dramas. Her acting is really good compared with many of her peers. Within a short period of time, she became one of my favorite Chinese actresses if not my favorite.
I don't care whatever reasons her mother had. I really don't care because she took it too far.
Do you know what it means for your mother to downgrade and insult you in front of so many people. She reay didn't have to take it so far. And I applaud CSS for confronting her parents at the end of the episode.
Her mother tells her she can't marry Luo Yao partly because of his family and because he is weak and isn't firm enough to defend her.Now I understand her reservations concerning Ling Buyi's family and the troubles that may follow. But she also said that Long Buyi is stubborn and CSS is stubborn and the two can't match. What does she want her daughter to do then? I wonder who she will be satisfied with
Episode 23..Shao shang is so endearing, I can see why adults like her. That scene where she met the emperor and the empress had me grinning from ear to ear. she's so silly and cute.
There's also the opening scene at Ling Buyi's residence. it was so funny and awkward. it's a shame Ling Buyi and Cheng shao shang always get interrupted.

so I was holding out on watching episode 17 and 18. I just watched episode 17 and here are my thoughts.
I love the dynamics between CSS and Yuan shen. He really insulted her father indirectly when he wanted to insult her...Lol and her father denied liking cold drinks too.
It's the way the emperor wasn't so angry when he heard Prince Xiao was plotting against him for me..but when he heard Prince Xiao was indirectly the reason for Ling Buyi reaming single and not being with CSS, he lost it and started insulting Prince Xiao. He is truly their biggest shipper and he hasn't even met CSS yet.
I pray the ratings continue to rise because this drama is really a masterpiece.
They left no stone unturned when it comes to details. All the side characters are fleshed up. They all have 3D personalities that could be likeable or detestable. I love it so much. it's been a while since I watched a drama where I admired so many other characters besides the main leads. I mean there's the emperor, Cheng shi, Cheng Zhi, Shuhua, Qiqi, Cheng shao shang herself, Ling Buyi, Yuan Shen and so many characters I enjoy.
This drama is shaping out to be one of the best cdramas I have watched. How will I wait for part 2?
Another compilation of my thoughts. 1.) I completely understand that Luo Yao is a shinning green flag but his relationship with CSS falls so flat even the adults see it. Anytime he is there with CSS and LBY, I want to sho him away. 2.) I really enjoy Yuan Shen and Cheng shao shang's bickering, I look forward to it. 3.) Not Cheng Zhi saying he would take care of his face and marry himself if he was looking for someone beautiful to marry. I really love his character. 4.) The Chemistry between CSS and LBY remains scorching. I feel bad for Ling Buyi. 5.) There are so many lovely characters in this drama, I can't pick a favourite. For a while now I have been watching cdramas where I want to strangle almost all the characters including the main leads. So this drama is refreshing. 6.) I don't really find the grandma comical. she's annoying and her outright preference of males is disgusting.
That's all I have. I may not watch the following episodes as soon as they come out. I have a feeling it's going to be so angsty, I am going to feel so bad for Ling Buyi hence it would be better if I just binge watched everything during binge watch this week's episodes over the weekend.
