If you’re thinking about starting this drama, you should probably read this (one small spoiler but not much…
It took me three tries to finish the first episode, not because of the actors, but simply because it's hard to get into something new while following other dramas at the same time. That said, this one is light and easy to watch; it doesn't require much thought, which makes it a nice filler while waiting for other shows to update. I'm only on episode 2 (or 3 😅), so I have no idea what the FL does later on that some people find annoying, but so far I haven't found her irritating. She comes across as a typical privileged noblewoman, much like many others in historical C-dramas. She doesn't seem foolish and has her own desires and thoughts. If she stays as she is in the first couple of episodes (and isn't dumbed down just to make the ML shine), I have no issue with her. Honestly, there are plenty of other things one could pick apart in this drama, but her character (at least so far) doesn't seem to be one of them. She is a rich girl who wants to continue having a good and privileged life, and to do so, she needs a husband she can tolerate and who can give her this privilege and stability 🤷🏼‍♀️

I really like your comparison to a mussel nurturing a pearl,it’s a beautiful metaphor for cultivation and growth through karma. The main difference, I think, is that the Chinese dragon is divine by nature; it was always a dragon. In contrast, an Imugi must earn its ascension to become one. So the pearl, or core, carries a different meaning depending on the mythology for the Imugi, it’s not just a symbol of power, but a vessel of potential that hasn’t fully matured yet

but still a bug spirit should represent decay, the complete opposite of an imugi. They are lowerlevel compared to an imugi, which is about to become a dragon and ascend. It is like a cockroach versus the sun. But let's go with the explanation that Bibi was so consumed by the battle against his brother, wounded and morally corrupted (maybe, as he is an imugi, human morality doesn't really apply). I don't know; I just feel they could have done something more while writing this part it just feels off. anyways I'm off to watch episode 12 as I still didn't watch it

At that point I swear the writer didn't know what to do with Yeori. Bc yes she was captive but at the same time…
Bibi was overtaken by lazy writing, and let's face it, he was never a champion of intelligence. But regardless, he's an Imugi, not human, never was. There's no reason for him to think or feel like a human, because that's simply not his nature. Imugi exist on a completely different plane of being. They cultivate, ascend, and move on. Human experiences, emotions, attachments, moral dilemmas, are not part of their path. If you really think about it, they shouldn't care about or dwell on any of it. The spirits of the dead, on the other hand, make sense to have rage, love, regret, etc or for ML to feel more because he is experiencing life in a human body.

Let's talk about: WHAT IS INSIDE IMUGI's PEARL? aka ball. That ball is sheer light, we saw it when imugi is alive…
I think his pearl/core/ball/essence/orb, represents everything he is and everything he could become. It holds his elemental power, his immortality, and the spiritual energy he’s cultivated. It’s both his life force and his potential, the key to ascending and finally becoming a true dragon, or at least that's why it seems to be so powerful and important. but I still do not understand how consuming an orb from a being with element of water can help somebody with element of fire

Wei Yan is such a complex character. He is like thoroughly grey. And I can kind of see where they are going. Bi…
About him he’s the classic example of someone stuck in a self-destructive loop. Even when things begin to go right, he instinctively sabotages them. It’s like he’s mentally conditioned to ruin anything good, then retreat into self-pity. That said, there’s a huge difference between quietly having feelings for someone you shouldn't and what he actually did. Painting her in such an indecent and objectifying way, especially for that era, goes far beyond immaturity. It’s the historical equivalent of photoshopping someone’s face onto a provocative image, invasive, inappropriate, and psychologically twisted. It reflects a distorted understanding of affection, control, and entitlement. Still, I do find this drama’s version of the character fascinating and hipe he will not go some boring path in the coming episodes

Overall this series is good but if you start observing their relationship in detail you will be disappointed if…
You’re right he’s definitely very insecure, and a lot of people would’ve had enough by now. But she truly loves him and understands his emotional immaturity in their relationship, and she’s willing to support him through it. My only issue is that there are too many filler scenes lately. They’re cute, but they’ve started to feel repetitive and with the ending so close, I’m just worried it’ll all get rushed at the end 😑

no he wasnt such a nice guy, the last thing he did was major dumbness and greed
He’s a creature who watched his brother start to act more and more like a human, and he genuinely wanted to save him from that path. In the end, he even sacrificed himself for him. But you are right he was written dumb, for someone supposedly hundreds of years old, he was gullible, impulsive, emotionally immature… basically a human 😅 or lets call him for what he was, a plot device

omg I totally disagree with this. This kdrama is twisty and everything is a surprise... not predictable at all.…
It honestly depends on how many dramas you’ve seen. After a while, the patterns start to feel predictable and it’s not just personal opinion. most stories across cultures fall into a limited number of core plot structures. So yeah, there’s only so many storylines you can create. At some point, it’s less about being original and more about how well a show executes familiar ideas

I'm trying to imagine the ideal ending for this show. While I initially wanted the leads to stay together, ultimately, it bothers me if he doesn't become a full dragon and leave this body, which is not his. Since they talked so much about him sacrificing his orb/core/life, I don't think that will happen. So what do you think will or should happen at the end?

Writing at the end of ep 11 was a bit frustrating. It felt like it took her forever to tell them to stop fighting…
The writing in this episode honestly didn't make sense. They really want us to believe that a being who has lived for hundreds of years, observed humans up close, and literally fed off their life energy (while judging them as corrupt and selfish) would blindly trust the shaman? Like… seriously? That's not wisdom; that's toddler-level emotional intelligence. And then, when the colossal shadow starts taking Bibi's core, everyone just stands there like statues or NPCs. I get that maybe they couldn't actually stop it, but the fact that they didn't even try made the whole scene fall flat. At least show them reacting, struggling, doing something. It would have made everything feel more intense instead of like a cutscene you can't skip. Also, why did she wait so long to scream at them to stop? The second she realised what was going on, she should have yelled, but instead, we got a few more dramatic fight shots before she finally said anything. It completely killed the momentum. For a big turning point, it all felt anticlimactic. And because this show doesn't have well-written lore, I would be surprised if they could even resurrect him once they kill the colossal shadow.

Contrary to what a lot of complaints here say, I think they should've stood 10 toes down in the romance part.…
The one thing I appreciated was that they didn’t drag Bibi’s arc out too much. Ever since he showed up chasing immortality, it was pretty clear how it would end, especially with how K-dramas usually treat characters who go against nature or morality like that (by human moral standards). Still, I was hoping for something a bit more clever or meaningful. But what really bothered me was how the deities (creatures)were written. They’re supposed to be these ancient, powerful beings who didn’t only spend time meditating in middle of nowhere, but as well lived among humans for a long time. Bibi was literally going around draining the souls of elderly people; he interacted with humans constantly. And yet… they all act like emotionally stunted children? Like, they’re not human, sure, but why give them childlike reasoning or zero growth after centuries of observation?
