Title Kingmaker
When Kim Woon Beom suddenly disappears on the frame during their brief conversation at the cafe, does it mean…
Hard to say. I felt that it just symbolized that Kim Woon Beom was out of Seo Chang Dae's life for good. There would be no "returning to the fold" or anything like that. Just my guess.

A cerebral film, but it lacked any whiff of excitement. Sol Kyung Gu and Lee Sun Kyun gave measured, intelligent performances, I have long felt that Kyung Gu is an excellent actor who lacks charisma. Some actors are all charisma and little talent -- think Idris Elba. At the moment, I cannot think of the name of such a Korean actor, though I have noticed a few. Still, the film is a study of aspects of political manipulation that is educational.

Agree, for me the chemistry between them was way better before they got together. Now I understand they are awkward…
I truly believe that this entire story could have been told in two hours. While watching, I keep thinking to myself, "Get on with it, already." In episode 11 there were only about three minutes that advanced the plot. This is why one should not watch a drama until all of the episodes have been released. With slow-moving ones like this, you can just jump to the finale and end the pain.

Kinda like the first movie better. This one is a bit too boring as a treasure hunting movie and not funny enough…
I swear that I was going to say everything that you said. You read my mind, but you got here first.

This was a well-written, well-produced movie. Hwang Jung-min can bring any script to life, but there was more here than just him.

The MDL average ratings don't seem to mean anything anymore. I often hate highly-rated movies and dramas and enjoy low ones. At times, I even enjoy highly-rated ones. One never knows.

Jan Claude Van Damm made a similar movie years ago with the title JCVD, his initials, in which he became a hostage of bank-robbers, but ended up helping them. He also ended up arrested and jailed. It was mostly in French, but there was a lot of English as well. He did an excellent acting job in it. He developed into a very good actor, but never received proper credit for it.

I didnt see any sex scene lmao maybe bcz I watched it in airplane (Turkish airlines) and they removed sex scene…
That scene was very brief and no 'important parts' were visible. It was not a big deal, unless one was looking to make it so.

I can't even find it on Viki anymore. I actually really want to watch this, shame.
Wow! I haven't thought about this since I posted over a year ago. Viki has it, but you will have to use a VPN to change your location. I doubt that the subtitles have been improved. https://www.viki.com/tv/28084c-a-wifes-credentials Dramacool seems to have it https://dramacool.city/movie/a-wifes-credentials-fhwwhjdx/ , but I have not sampled the subtitles yet.

This is not what you could call a "taut" drama. They had enough material for a two-hour movie, but needed to expand it to sixteen hours. I am continuing because of Yeo Jin Goo and Moon Ga Young, but neither of them is in top form, probably due to the poor material that they have to work with. If it doesn't get better, I will be rating it 5.5. The current average rating of 8.4 has me mystified.

I'm getting no pleasure from watching this. All the twists and turns cause a tightness in my stomach. I am going to have to drop it.

Runtime is 1 hour 46 minutes, that isn't long. (At least for me and I guess for many others)
Yes, but it seemed like fourteen hours. That's what I meant.

I hated the first four episodes. It began to pick up from there, but by the late episodes I only continued because I had invested so much time that I thought that I should see it through. I wish that I had not bothered.

I was testing a theory that the MDL ratings were not as important as the momentum of the tv ratings in Korea. The ratings for 'Liberation' rose after episode four, so I thought there was a strong possibility of improvement. I was wrong.

I watched most of this at 1.25 or 1.5 because so much 'nothing' happened between dialogues. I have to develop a new way of determining if I will like a drama before plunging in.

Lee El was great.

It's not the kind of drama you watch waiting for something to happen. It's much more introspective and about people…
Thanks for the reply. It's okay to be introspective, but if there is no 'movement' then why continue watching? In a way I compare it to "Lost," which was fairly popular here on MDL, but in Korea it lost(ha-ha) viewers almost weekly. I did not discover that until I had already dropped it after ep. 3. It was a story about depressed people being depressed, and I didn't want to watch them all jump off of a building together. "Liberation" rose in ratings, so I am hopeful, though the review by Elephantaaa has me a bit worried.

I had difficulty getting into this. I looked up the ratings in Korea and saw that they dropped steadily during the first four episodes, but picked up afterwards. Indeed, without that expectation of improvement, I would have dropped it during the second episode. All I saw were boring people being bored. Not very interesting. I have just finished episode 5 and sense that things are beginning to move forward. At least, I am hopeful.

On Secret Love Affair Jun 4, 2022
I have been trying to watch the Showtime drama "The Affair," but find that I keep comparing it to "Secret Love Affair." "The Affair" seems so 'empty' compared to this. I enjoy the acting, but the plot does not have nearly the substance of SLA. Most stories about affairs are salutes to a failure of honor and rejection of responsibility, but SLA traces a movement TOWARD those values. I have long felt that the disappointing rating is due to the failure of many reviewers to see past the word "Affair" in the title.

Before I discovered MDL, I used to rely only on tv ratings. If ratings rose during the length of the series, that was a good sign. If they dropped, that was bad. Think of the drama Lost. Many people here on MDL thought that it was great, yet the Nielsen ratings dropped almost every week. I found it to be a chore to watch. It currently has an MDL rating of 8.4 -- higher than SLA. When SLA was being broadcast, its rating rose most weeks. Point is, I plan to go back to watching the ratings trend.

Have you developed a simple way of filtering, or is it arduous?
