This one is difficult to comment on. Either the script was poorly written or the editor was angry with everyone involved. The plot was awkward and choppy. Portions should have been fleshed out better, others were unnecessary. Chun Woo Hee hardly had anything to do.
However, Kim Soo Ahn is an amazing actress, regardless of age. Na Moon Hee did her usual stellar job. In spite of my complaints, at the end I was crying while wondering about the social network in South Korea. I gave it a 7, though I would be willing to view certain portions of it again.
For the last two years I ignored this film because I figured that it would be depressing. Well, it is, but there is great acting and fabulous set-design. It is a story of endurance and great heroism. Hwang Jung Min is one of the world's top actors. I should not have waited so long.
BTW, some of the music was by Ennio Morriconi, from the Dollars trilogy.
I'm not sure if you watched it already, but you can watch it on YouTube, someone translated it
Thank you. I was able to watch it on the link that mer sent above. Of course, You Tube would have been more simple. I have to remember to try that during those times that I am having trouble finding a movie on my usual sources.
Woah! This is a valid insomnia cure. You can watch the first and last episodes, skipping the ones in between, and not miss much. I have watched a couple of movies that were more boring, but I don't remember a drama that equaled this.
Lee Yoo Ri had ANOTHER baby in prison! (I just watched Yellow Boots.) Why is she unwilling to vary the type of scripts she accepts? I would love, love, love to see her in something fresh.
I don't understand why her star hasn't risen higher than it has. Her charisma. Her beauty. Her ability to either underplay or 'chew the scenery.' Why isn't she offered better scripts?
you should watch some of her other works! She's amazing!
I did not expect to be able to find it, because dramas from 2014 are sometimes difficult to locate. Bingo! Kissasian has it. I took a quick look at a couple of episodes and was bothered by the fact that it is one of those low-cost productions that have always bored me. You Are Too Much, with Uhm Jung Hwa, was one of those, and my first such venture into Kdrama. It was so awful that I nearly vowed to never try another. People on another board convinced me to try again, that I had just picked a stinker for my baptism. What I chose was My Father Is Strange. I have been hooked ever since. The comments I have read about Lee Yoo Ri's performance in Jang Bor Is Here have persuaded me to give it a try. I wonder, will I be grateful to you, or want to find you to yell at you? (Just kidding)
you should watch some of her other works! She's amazing!
I have, and while I usually thought that she was great, I have been disappointed with the scripts. I am surprised that she is not offered better ones. I particularly enjoyed Spring Turns To Spring due to the way that she and Uhm Ji Won played off of each other. Others, like The Promise and Super Daddy Yeol, had nothing to offer other than her shining light.
I am watching episode 4. It suddenly occurred to me that this is a pretty depressing drama. I am not sure that I need that in my life. Does anything good/happy ever happen, or should I just drop it? Thank you.
I found that I was less and less enthusiastic about this drama after the first four or five episodes. During the last four, I was FF most of the time. I do not understand the praise that some have given to Park Sung Hoon. Is he an acquired taste? In fact, I felt that most of the actors were quite dull. The major exception, of course, was Nana. I plan to sample some of her other work soon.
I don't give many 10's, but this got one from me. It is a shame that Won Bin is leaving such a small body of work, but he is not exactly living in a cardboard box on the sidewalk, so I assume that he is happy.
A couple of years ago, I watched the movie Maundy Monday. I found myself thinking that the lead actress (Lee Na-young) reminded me of Won Bin. Then I found out that she is Won Bin's wife. Strange world we live in.
There was a Bollywood remake of this starring John Abraham (Rocky Handsome) -- it sucked. One of many examples of the current superiority of Korean acting, writing, and directing.
Goo Se Ra has to be one of the best written female characters I've ever seen in a kdrama, she can be cute and…
You are right, of course. It is a great part, but few actresses could have brought it to life the way Nana did. Her energy and creativity were a joy to watch. Much of the range that you mentioned would not have been apparent in the hands of many other actresses. Great part, great actress. Fun to watch.
@spvz29.Agree with all you said. As for Lee Elijah she is more attractive than beautiful (example: to me beautiful…
I think that we will one day find that Lee Elijah is secretly the sister of Han Hyo-joo. They both do this 'thing' with their eyebrows when they are the least bit surprised. Hard to explain. Both have lips that I would like to spend time with. (Sigh...)
Overall, I enjoyed this. 1. I had no interest at all in the plot line about Kang Do Chang's sister. 2. Oh Jung Se 'mailed in' his performance. Maybe he had a cold and was on medication. Or, could he have been thinking ahead to his part in It's Okay To Not Be Okay? 3. Jang Seung Jo's part seemed to diminish in the second half. I didn't actually count the minutes, but the drama started with his part being the prime focus, then suddenly Sun Hyun Joo and Ji Seung Hyun got increasing amounts of time. A few times I found myself wondering, "What happened to Jang Seung Jo?" 4. Lee Elijah -- God, she's beautiful. I would like a drama that has her in every scene. She would not have to say or do much. Just be there. 5. This was a detective/mystery, and the major plot line about the murders and the prosecutions unfolded nicely. In the end that was the most important consideration.. 6. Due to issues 1, 2, and 3 listed above, I gave it an 8.0.
Only a quarter of the way through. This is my first exposure to Nana, and I am very impressed. The character in this story is a pretty standard trope, but she plays it with an intelligence that I don't believe I have seen before. Ditzy, but smart.
Park Sung Hoon, on the other hand, leaves me cold. He displays no personality whatsoever. Some commenters have stated that he was good in other things, but so far he seems to be portraying a block of wood.

Still, I have high hopes for future episodes.
