KMLM is actually very great. It's one of my fave dramas. The ML is not as black flag as in the novel. But the screen writer modified the story greatly. It was exciting from beginning until the end. Especially for palace politics and game of thrones. The chemistry + kissing scenes are also great.

The production team changed the ML cruel and crazy behaviour in the novel into "normal" red flag ML like Murong Jinghe drama version. That's why the results are different with novel reader expectations. But I really love it. I still prefer normal Red Flag ML than wild, cruel, and crazy ML like original novel. He raped and abused FL so badly in the novel. He also killed many innocent people in the novel. Most of the people who enjoy KMLM also like Murong Jinghe drama version.

KMLM bath kissing scene ep 1 is very hot. You should watch that one.

I think Shadow Love (maybe) will have better kissing scenes in the future. Let's see.

Other costume dramas have more passionate kissing scenes. For example Story of Kunning Palace, The Prisoner of Beauty, Kill Me Love Me, and etc.

I think Majestic tone is more into high budget idol costume dramas like all dramas that i mentioned above in previous comment (and still many more). They are more grand and expensive. The costumes, sets, cinematography, and production designs are visually stunning.

Ripe Town is more into cold, quiet, and solemn. You can see the same vibes from Under the Microscope, The Wind Blows from Longxi, The Longest Day in Chang'an, The Litchi Road, Qin Dynasty Epic, and etc. Those dramas are non-idol period dramas. And they are not tribute dramas like you said. Tribute dramas are produced by Chinese government/CCP. One example of tribute drama is "Beyond". Ripe Town is produced by Tencent. So it's still a commercial drama.

Excuse me, but you are wrong. Many idol costume dramas also have visually stunning cinematography. For example Blossom, The Double, Love Like The Galaxy, My Journey to You, Fangs of Fortune, Kill Me Love Me, The Prisoner of Beauty, The Princess Gambit, Story of Kunning Palace, Flourished Peony, Love of The Divine Tree, The Glory, Coroner's Diary, A Dream Within A Dream, and etc MANY MORE. There are still more dramas, but I will write many pages if I mention them all.

Besides main couple, this drama also had side couple as well. Many OSTs were sung for main couple + dramatic melancholic moments between leads. This drama still has romance elements.
