I also enjoyed this drama very much indeed!! My rating was one of the few 10s I gave to the 2020 dramas. It was really very well written and acted. Thanks for writing this article.
Indeed the romance in these dramas is amazing and also the chemistry between the leads. Great choices! The only one I haven't watched out of this list is W. :)
Thanks for this interesting article. As a matter of fact of the over 300 K dramas I have watched in total, there are very few family dramas. What turns me off is the exaggerated shouting and makjang that sometimes takes place (I dropped Ojakgyo Brothers for this reason). However there are a few that I enjoyed and completed which are Smile You, Glorious Day, What Happens to My Family and at the moment I am waching Once Again which is good fun.
I read many mixed reviews about this drama, some people loved it others didn't which triggered my curiosity and I decided to watch it and I have to say I was glad I did. Yes, although this drama deals with an overused trope such as "revenge" it does so in a very original and quite unique way. Like many other viewers I appreciated the fact that it addressed many important current issues such as racism, gender bender etc. At first I didn't warm up to the main characters as each of them had flaws that got on my nerves, luckily as the story progressed I started to appreciate their cold personalities. The romance part didn't bother me particularly as I considered it as a side story which didn't increase or diminish my interest in the main plot. This is a drama that will stay in my memory for a long time so kudos and it's a 9 for me.
I have to say that I dove into this drama not remembering a thing about Season 1 which I had enjoyed at the time (rating it 8.5). Unfortunately I found the first half of this season quite boring and complicated to understand but I held on as I enjoyed the cast's acting skills. Luckily in the second half the story picked up and started to be involving and interesting and it carried on like that until the end. I honestly didn't fully understand all the connections of what happened but the ending was satisfying. It's another 8.5 for me.
This was a great drama for me. It had the right amount of suspence, romance, mystery and also incredibly good acting by the whole cast. The only aspect that I didn't like was that the writers chose a very overused trope in the last episode...without that flaw it would have been absolutely perfect! So my rating is 9 and I hope LJK will star in many more dramas like this.
Out of this list my favourite actresses are Gong Hyo Jin, Ha Ji Won and Jun Ji Hyun. I also really like Lee Yun Hee, Seo Hyun Jin, Han Ji Hye, Son Ye Jin and Kim Go Eun. :)
I haven't watched Korean family dramas for a while and I also remember having dropped a few in the past as they were too heavy going with makjang. However I have to say that your article has inspired me to give this one a try as it sounds really pleasant. Thanks for writing this article!
I was very skeptical when I first started to watch this drama as I wondered what all the hype was about so I was totally on my defensive mode. In fact I didn't enjoy the first half as I found it too overacted, extreme and cartoonish (it felt like watching a Tim Burton movie more than a K drama). However as I approached the second half everything started to click in and I was totally and emotionally involved in the relationship between the three main characters. Besides the moments in which I found the plot totally unrealistic (well, most of it was more like a fairy tale) I must admit that overall it was a touching and inspiring story which gave me insight on what living with an autistic person must be like. Oh Jung Se was incredibly good in his role and I don't think I will be able to see him in anything different from now on. My rating is 8 as it would have been higher if I had equally enjoyed the first half of the drama.
This drama was so dragging for me from beginning to end but I stuck with it only because of the good cast and all the hard work of everyone involved. If it was only for the writing I would have dropped it after the first episodes as the story was really far fetched and non sensical. The last episodes were obvious fillers full of clichès and I really couldn't wait until it was over. The only good idea was the final message in the last episode but it isn't enough to raise its value.
What an enjoyable drama this was! Finally another really good historical drama with no fantasy (well besides the flying around during fights which I could tolerate) with an interesting plot and which I personally never found dragging or boring. I liked all the characters and the leads in particular who had amazing chemistry, I actually felt a strong 'friendship' vibe between the OTP besides their romantic relationship. The ending was quite typical of this kind of story so I wasn't surprised. My rating is 10.
Fantastic list and totally true about inspiring examples in K dramas. Sometimes I wonder if Koreans behave like this in real life as it is all so different from our western world.
I decided to watch this drama after many months from its airing because I had read so many positive reviews about it and I really liked the main leads. However I have to admit that I never enjoy crime dramas because of all the violence depicted so I suffered quite a lot whilst watching it and took my time to complete it. As a matter of fact the story was rather confusing and I only understood some of the twists at the end but the acting was good and the plot was intriguing enough to keep me going.
I had kept away from saeguks for quite a long time as I couldn't find any 'traditional' type of stories without the mixture of other genres (horror, comedy, etc.). I would say finally this one fitted in that category which I was missing. Everything here was pleasant and old school so I recommend it to typical saeguk lovers like myself. :)
Your experience sounds rather similar to mine especially at the beginning (although I wasn't a teenager then) when I was really enthusiastic and never dropped a drama. After 8 years of non stop drama watching I have now become a lot pickier when choosing dramas as I can tell from the synopsis and the genre (I keep well away from fantasy/horror/school type dramas) whether it could be my cup of tea. However sometimes even with the pickiest selection I have come across dramas that I dropped either at the very first episode (when I found them boring, uninteresting or irritating) or halfway through (these are the biggest disappointments as either my initial expectations are not met or the writing suddenly goes in a totally different direction).
