I’m about 3/4 through the first episode but I’m finding it difficult to finish. The stepmom and her daughter…
"a year ago" - perhaps you've watched it - but for anyone coming by:
You're absolutely right (they are complete psychos).
Yes. Lots of abuse. Jung Suh's father is a doormat and never sides with his own daughter; he is a puppet to the stepmom. Their actions goes into more CRIMINAL territory as stepdaughter becomes an adult.
The experience is 98% bad time and 2% good time. I'd skip if you want to leave with your heart (and blood pressure) unscathed ..
This drama got one of the worst set ups/first episodes. It's infested with revolting irredeemable manipulative…
I also hated SML in "Sad Love Story" (similar thing, except with blindness over amnesia).
During that time, characters were often very ONE dimensional. FL would always be super nice, gracious, pretty, and utterly a damsel-in-distress. There would be a jealous, evil SFL. And also a SML who would make selfish decisions out of "love" only to later regret it (cue: redemption arc).
A comment on a old YouTube video summarizing this drama said:
"This drama gave viewers CANCER from watching all the ordeals FL went through, and ultimately FL died from CANCER"
Her life was truly sad. All 'cause her dad fell in love with the wrong woman... Her dad had absolutely no spine. It was also sad that SML died for no reason - FL only got to see ML for a short time. SML hoped that she could see and enjoy a long life with ML. Very sad.
UP TO EP 2dude i came here with expectations, but damn the first ep was already a no for me (what's with bullies…
All 100% of the students paralyzed (froze) in fear when the teacher screamed at them to "Run!" Not one of them. The fight-or-flight (or freeze) response is at play, but it's hard to believe that at least ONE of them didn't think to run. IRL, there's AT LEAST one individual who will run. Statistically, the chance that all 100% students will freeze in that situation [in episode 2] is very, very low... like winning a lottery.
I did not really enjoy ep 4. I wish Kdramas would stop showing drunken women going on a tirade and embarrassing…
For real, they need to stop that :|
Come on writers, there has to be a new, different, or original way to develop the story - show how ML finds himself caring about FL - without having her wasted and getting him to look after her!
This is a long explanation, following what we are shown. See: https://youtu.be/XwmQKh-JYXg "From now on, you are…
His fake name was 온하준 (Ohn Ha Joon, On Ha Joon). I mistakenly typed Oh but 온 is pronounced Oh-N. Not exactly ON like when we turn something 'On' but also not like 'Oh' like when we say "Ohhh" lol
--------------
Shorter version:
(1) His real name is Kim Dan Woo. When he was 9 years old, he was led away by someone while playing at a park. Later, he was teased at an orphanage for not remembering his name by a bully named Oh Ha Joon. Dan Woo pushes and ends up killing the bully. Min Geon (bad guy boss) gaslights and gives Dan Woo the name of the bully: Oh Ha Joon.
(2) Dan Woo's parents never stopped looking for him. His real dad gets a tip that someone had seen someone that looked like Dan Woo (from aged photo of missing persons pamphlet); he seeks out Min Geon. Min Geon has Dan Woo kill his own father who had searched for his son for years. He rewards him with the ring for 'becoming stronger.'
(3) Dan Woo learns these truths and requests Taxi service from Do Gi. Dan Woo thanks Taxi team. He takes 3 bullets for Do Gi, pushes Min Geon off the building, goes down with him, and they both die. In his last moments, he thinks of his time with the taxi team -their kindness, grace, and happy memories together.
What was the truth about oh ha joon? What was his story?
This is a long explanation, following what we are shown. See: https://youtu.be/XwmQKh-JYXg "From now on, you are On Ha Joon" The Kidnapped Child named Kim Dan Woo (Ft. On Ha Joon's Taxi Request)
Jang Sung Chul (Taxi Team Boss) had been doing an extensive background search on Oh Ha Joon. He created a case file about everything he found and presented it to Oh Ha Joon in prison (criminal organization's headquarters where all the bad guys, corrupt police officers, etc, comfortably meet up, avoiding public eyes and suspicions).
What did Oh Ha Joon learn from taking a look at this file? - His real name is 김단우 (Kim Dan Woo). - Kim Dan Woo was never abandoned as a kid.
(1) Flashback to when Kim Dan Woo was 9 years old: - We're shown that Kim Dan Woo suffered memory loss and lived at an orphanage run by Park Min Geon (the crime organization head boss). - Dan Woo was getting teased by the other kids at the orphanage for not remembering his own name. He pushes the instigator (bully) who falls and dies after hitting his head on a huge boulder. - Park Min Geon later tells the police that the kid fell on his own, but not before grabbing a name tag off the kid's body. The name tag reads: Oh Ha Joon. - Park Min Geon talks with Dan Woo. He says, "only those that win the fight can live to tell what happened and who did the wrongdoing." Min Geon continues to gaslight Dan Woo, saying that he "didn't do anything wrong. All [he] did was win a fight. Ha Joon only died because he was weak. Being weak is wrong. In order to win a fight, you need to become stronger. [He] must win all fights." - Min Geon puts the name tag on Dan Woo's shirt, telling him that his name is now Oh Ha Joon. He is to live in Ha Joon's place, and fight all "evils" in his place.
(2) Flashback to when Kim Dan Woo was 19 years old: - Min Geon gives him a mission to kill a man. He carries out the mission successfully, pushing a man (looking to be in 40s~50s+ in age) off a building/parkinglot-structure. The man dies. - Min Geon gives him a present, rewarding him for "becoming stronger." It's a ring. He tells him that 'those with this ring will help you (have your back).' - A henchman of Min Geon arrives at the scene, asking what he should put as the cause of death / close the case as. Min Geon rhetorically asks: "What should we write/say when a man dies by suicide because he failed to find his son?" - The man Kim Dan Woo killed was his own biological father.
(3) Present day Kim Dan Woo: - He sees 'Missing Child' pamphlets/papers looking for a kid named Kim Dan Woo. - His parents had quit their jobs in search for their child... for many years. Each pamphlet reads 9 years (at the time of disappearance), 10 years, 11 years, all the way up to 19 years old. At later years, there is an illustrationd depicting what Kim Dan Woo would look at, generated by aging technologies. On the last pamphlet showing him at 19 years old, he sees his own face there, only a bit younger, but adult face remains. - Kim Dan Woo recalls having walked past his biological father before, when he was 19 years old. - His biological father had met up with his fake father, Min Geon, saying he was told that someone had seem someone who looked like the boy in the missing persons pamphlet. - Min Geon, learning that Dan Woo's biological parents never stopped looking, has Dan Woo kill his own father.
(4) Kim Dan Woo's Taxi Request: - Dan Woo calls Kim Do Gi and asks if 'even a person like him can request a taxi'; his request: to exact revenge and claim his name back - Dan Woo tells Min Geon that he wants to kill Do Gi himself. - Do Gi and Dan Woo meet up. Min Geon spectates their fight. Do Gi wins the fight. - Dan Woo says Do Gi was right all along, that there was something he could reclaim (get back) from his memories. - Dan Woo wonders aloud if his life would've been different had he met the Taxi Crew first, saying his life would probably be better than it was right now - Do Gi says Kim Dan Woo is a good name, in response to Dan Woo - Dan Woo thanks Do Gi for accepting his taxi request - Min Geon says Dan Woo is "weak" and raises a gun to finish off Do Gi himself but that's when Dan Woo pushes Do Gi aside, dashes towards Min Geon who is distraught at Dan Woo's sudden-charging-towards him. - Dan Woo is shot once (arm), twice (other arm), third (chest). He pushes Min Geon off the building; they fall together off the building. - Dan Woo is motionless on the ground. Min Geon manages to utter, "Ha Joon,.. how dare you.." - Dan Woo has flashbacks, reminescing his good memories of his time spent with Taxi Crew. Their kindness and grace to him.
Ending of ep14 made me cry :(( Please let them be happy.
Like his father said, dongjin is dongjin. Woojoo is woojoo. Dongjin could choose to go no contact with his mother, and Woojoo would never have to form a relationship with that woman as her mother-in-law. They're so miserable apart. I actually feel a bit resentful of Woojoo's mom and older sister. I wish they'd allow Woojoo to make choices that would lead to Woojoo's happiness. We all only have one life.
I've only watched Youtube summaries and clips here and there — this drama has a lot of great lines/quotes. I…
Okay so I ended up adding it to my 'Not interested list.'
After watching a short summary video, I watched the ending spoilers clip(s). ...And uh.. I thought he died in the end cause the video showed her visiting a gallery. He had a HUGE portrait of himself up with a cheesy line with a wordplay on her name. From the beginning, I thought he had a terminal illness or something to explain his A-word behavior. Then he kept coming back and appearing time and time again. She kicks away a green flag guy away, it seems. Even for dramaland, the story was very far reaching? It's almost comparable to "Start-Up" ML toxic levels! I mean.. I guess the two of them wanted to be together and ended up together. Good for them. But their romance story is something I'll choose to skip.
About ~30 minutes of watching it on Youtube – much better than watching full episodes. Had I watched it while it was airing, it'd have been a frustrating experience!
Example:
Tree of Heaven <- Main couple are step siblings.

Granted, it allowed FL to live as "Ji Soo" care-free and away from harassment of step-mom & step-sister... but it also kept FL away from ML. :/
I guess his redemption arc was good: revealing the crimes of his family and killing himself to donate his eyes to FL.
- Sad Love Story
- Winter Sonata
- Tree of Heaven
Box of tissues recommended !

Not a big fan of both Ahns but oh well.
Is there a way we can view ALL of the comments we've left in one spot and even delete if we wanted?
