So Cai Wang Jin and XR technically didn't have a full out affair but their actions lead me to believe they aren't totally innocent. Regardless of whether XR wanted him to be someone who listens to her air her grievances or used him to get info on Mu Ze. His care of her also exceeded what he should have displayed. The scene where she drugged MZ and was hauled off....the first things out of CWJ's mouth was no....and not no like you are wrong but no as in do not hurt XR. LAR might have set the scene but they were willing and active participants. She didn't force them.

I could be wrong but I don’t believe it’s based on a printed novel. The reason I say that is because I see over and over where people say that no one knows how this drama will actually end and usually when things are based on a printed book they say in the book this is how it ends but the drama might not follow it.

I saw that too! I was wondering if that was shown because it will end up being a figment if her imagination and something she wants to do vs really does.
Mu Chuan will rule. He’s slowly getting loved and respected by the people and the court officials are starting…
Likable guy for sure…I suppose I never got the vibes he wants anything to do with being the leader. He reminds me of the crown prince in love like the Galaxy and unfit for the emperor role.
So if MZ does get killed, what happens to the overall dynasty. It sounds like bad news for the common folks because evil aside MZ does have the brains to be a wise emperor. The other two princes aren't true ruler material. I know that isn't part of the revenge story but let's say he dies....then what?
Because it’s either Mu Ze or First Prince. The royal family is targeting her, if you remember, First Prince…
Trust him with what? The more involved he gets the sooner he will get killed by his brother. He is basically defenseless and other than sharing the emotional burden with her there's not much he can do. Having seen the ending of his life and knowing what she knows now, MZ is not one to mess with. He can kill his bro once, he can do it again. Especially if he feels MC is intervening.
In the first life line, Muze really loves Lu Anran a lot. However he loves power more. He loves her more than…
I feel the same vibes. I love how sweet MC is but he isn't memorable to me. Perhaps lol that might not be a bad thing bc MZ was memorable and we see where that got our FML. (sobs). I think the wishful thinker in me wishes for a happier MZ ending with her this time. However, I can't see how that will be. Drama watcher in me supports a love between MZ and FML. Reality - I think MC is the best fit.
Am just at ep. 5 right now. It has been interesting for the first 5. But, am quite annoyed that FL was given a…
I can see where you might find it frustrating. It might be helpful to remember the era which the drama is set in. The FL has a heavy burden on her shoulders and she really only has so many choices she can really make. Perhaps in present day, she would be like, "I'm outta here". But given the power held by the ML and the damage he can do. She is the underdog. She's a merchant family not a royal family and doesn't have powerful connections, not connection to the emperor, not military power. She also has a lot of baggage with regards to family members to consider and their well being. Sadly, she has to consider the family, business, and overall the fact she's really pretty powerless and is trying to find small changes to make a big impact so her life ends differenty this time.
Watching the ending the first time, I walked away feeling it was rushed and I was a bit let down. But I went back and re-watched the very last episode and I think I'm parting happy enough with the ending. A wedding and some plump CSS babies would have been even better of course. The happy moments showing the main characters and CSS' family gave me the warm fuzzies I was wanting. I loved the scene where her family charged in on horses to rescue her and the camera showed each one of her family members....even YangYang was charging in.
I dreaded watching YSJ's ending and perhaps because I always had a soft spot for him and didn't want to actually see him become another version of his teacher. The way this ended for his character left me feeling okay and that he was going to be okay. The ending included him and welcomed him in their family though he wasn't the man standing next to CSS at the end.
It reminded me of what I felt LBY once said at the banquet dinner when they dined with YSJ's teacher and heard his sob story about the maid - in life sometimes someone is going to be disappointed, not everyone walks away pleased. There was just enough sweetness at the end to wrap up this drama. It took a second try for me but I'm good y'all.
I was also a bit sad at that part. How did you all interpret why he said he wishes he'd never met her? I was thinking…
I struggled with this scene for sure. I get that the feelings are so raw for their family. But this is one section of this episode that had me going....huh?? It's prob because I don't feel the 2 suitors had a hand in his death at all. Selfishly, it would have made more sense (to me) if he said he wishes he never met his brother than CSS. His brother was a bad dude and the ending was justified. I don't know anyone wanted LBEN dead but they wanted appropriate punishment and to save CSS's Dad- it was LBen who decided to be both judge and jury. I understand sad but I don't understand projecting it and in some regards almost pushing blame on someone else. So that entire parting ways bit didn't make sense... =(
Lou Ben’s storyline made me sad and cry a bit Despite his competence, they chose to hold him down, forced to…
The grand tutor and his wife are slimey and detestable characters but they didn’t make LBen do those things. Also, given the era and the rules regarding family members holding court positions, the way they behaved is consistent with what most families would have done probably,. Suppressing the LBens to save the spot for their own kids.
Very few families would have said their own children suck but the second family’s children are great so will let them have the chance to be an official instead. I think given his smarts he could have found a way around it. How? I don’t know. But what LBen does was unforgivable. As far as I know the grand tutor and his wife were obv not right but not entirely a crime and not for LBen’s crimes.
LY farewell conversation with CSS was another heartbreaker. When he wished he never met her, I can’t help but…
I didn’t understand that part when he talking, how would LY not meeting CSS change the course of events? Is he insinuating that his brother would’ve gotten away with everything had CSS not been in the picture?
LAR might have set the scene but they were willing and active participants. She didn't force them.

I kid.
