I wouldn't call her a typical damsel in distress type of character, quite the opposite. As for master x disciple relationship, he's not much older than her, and nothing really happens between them during the time in which she is his disciple. I think their relationship was balanced quite nicely, and anything serious starts happening only after she leaves the mountain on which they cultivated together and after he leaves priesthood. Of course, their relationship blossoms and develops even before that, but he doesn't pursue her & she doesn't believe there could be anything romantic between them because of his status.

I hope that clears some of your doubts. If you're a fan of XZ I'm sure you'll not regret watching this. He's absolutely amazing as Shi Ying and his acting in this it top-notch.

I remember how beautiful the period of discovering his works/interviews/performances had been for me, after I watched him in The Untamed for the first time. He really is a beautiful soul and I'm sure you'll enjoy being his fan. Like you said, he has so much to offer.

She is a brat in the beginning, but she's also always being kept in the dark by other characters, not knowing what's actually happening around her, so I don't think we can expect her to be more cautious. Her character becomes much better once people actually start communicating with her.

As for her attractiveness, it's a subjective thing. I can understand you not wanting to watch if you don't find her attractive tho. There are many popular dramas I also skip because I don't like how main leads physically look >.>. I just don't like when people publicly shame someone for their physical appearance and I've seen it to many times when it comes to this drama.

Okay, that makes sense, somewhat. But there are also Nian Bai Yu and that little girl that was saved by Li Susu. They're all from the same clan so it may be connected, but however I look at it the whole chronology and characters' life spans are iffy.
Not that I care too much tho, I'm still enjoying it 😂

Most episodes are around 45 min long, but there are three that are around 1h30min long, so they probably split those longer episodes. From what I've seen people saying there are no additional scenes in those 3 eps.

Still bothers me that we never got the fully subbed version of this 😔

Is she considered an idol actress? Haven't watched many of her dramas but from what I've seen she's a really good actress, among the best when it comes to the popular ones.

I have a question for those who read the book or understand this. Why were Merfolk living in Kongsang when they were considered inferior/second class citizens by Kongsang people and they had a home in Biluo Sea anyway? Like, they could've just returned there like they ended up doing in the end?

This genre isn't famous for its logic and common sense so I'll take whatever happened and consider it a happy ending, lol.

I might write a proper review later but for now I'll just say that it was a beautiful slow-burn love story with great acting from the leads and some beautiful visuals, but the plotty part was pretty mediocre ngl.
Also, there were some pretty interesting relationships aside from Shi Ying and Zhu Yan, like Shi Ying and his master and Zhu Yan and Zhi Yuan. I also like how there were no annoying evil characters who pretend to be good and make things hard for the leads. Those usually make my blood boil.

I'm too lazy to check episodes but you may be talking about the scene with Zhu Yan and Yuan (?). From what I understood it's not a real underwater scene but some kind of spell/Merfolk thing that simulates underwater feeling. The real underwater scene in this drama was actually filmed under water and I'm sure you'll love it once you come to that part. I was positively surprised.

Having TYM and TLP back to back was great, but now it's time for another drought T_T

I think we have completely different taste when it comes to dramas (I had to check your watchlist and a lot of dramas I like you either dropped or rated low, and some I thought were trash you rated highly) but your comments are always well written and backed up so it's interesting to read and think about them. I agree with you about the part where you mention lack of stakes, it really did feel like that.

I obviously enjoyed it much more than you did so my honest rating would probably be 8.5 (I came into it looking for angst and good acting lol), but your review helped me realize what I found lacking (but couldn't pinpoint).

I'm only on episode 30 but I have to say that reveal of the masked man who was behind Ice Clan was such a letdown. I don't know whether there'll be more about it in later episodes but that was just anticlimactic.
