honestly it was simply gross how everyone treated Bom.
I hated everyone involved int he dad issue, except from Bom herself and the teen boy. The idea that LITERALLY everyone was more concern about the dad and the grandma, and not the ACTUAL victim Bom was just gross. the way everyone kept telling her she should not call her dad jerk, after SHE WAS STABBED BY HIM (i don't give a fuck it was "accident", you don't fight your child when you have a knife in your hand in the first place). How about asking her dad how can he verbally abuse his daughter for years and neglect the whole family? I was just shocked by it all. The way they yelled at her at the hospital for having strong emotional reaction AFTER BEING STABBED AND HAVING SURGERY.
Being addicted is not an excuse for abuse. Bom should not be emotionally blackmailed into forgiving her dad "for the sake of the grandma".
The whole episode was everyone shitting on Bom because of her dad. And at the end it was her responsibility to protect him by lying she did it herself. and she was expected to do that. And any time she voiced her grievances, someone criticized her for it. The fuck is wrong with everyone in this drama?
Great review! Perfectly presents what the show is about and what a viewer might expect going in
Great review! I especially agree how we truly got a variety of characters, and because of that the created world still felt real, even with the fantasy elements ๐

I love it.
Han Seok Kyu's narration during cooking scene is just amazing with his clam and soothing voice.
The romance went from bickering, to barely interacting, to cute couple.
The mystery went from tense unknown, to barely existing, to murder thriller.
Realistically speaking, this is so poorly written. ML is PAINFULLY underdeveloped, There is NOTHING to his character. Because of this the romance has literally zero sparks, because dud does not even seem like a proper real person.
Sun Ho switches from cute, to annoying, to obsessive, to cute too many times I am kind of done.
Tae Cho Hee should not be named as the main character, she is barely a supporting one, which is sad because her plot is quite interesting. I think it would be a good watch to see her arc and dealing with the rumors about her.
Joo Sun Ja should have romance with Do Jae Yi - the comedic possibilities I cannot. While her and Grumpy just... nothing. I feel nothing.
I'm starting to enjoy the psycho dude. It's all so random, extreme, overdramatic and out of the writer's ass I cannot stop laughing every time he appears on screen.
Sure, some interaction are fun. Sure, Hae Yi is a fun character to follow. but damn this drama has little to offer overall. Which is sad, because I loved it at the beginning ๐
๐๐ป It's light and fun to watch. I always enjoyed fish out of water type of a deal - new person in a small town or a new person in a old group of friends. Watching them slowly adjust and others open up is interesting. It also provides a perfect opportunity for characters' development since both the new person gets affected by the older one, and the new environment gets affected by the new.
๐๐ป Im Si Wan - Dae Beom is adorable. I am extremely curious about his hardships and past. This is what I kind of wanted to see for Yeo Reum, slowly introduce me to what happened to get and not bombard me with information day one. I like how we see where he is now, and with few flashbacks and side conversation slowly uncover what happened in the past to lead him to this place.
๐๐ป Visually speaking - love it. It's not over the top artistic, but it has many beautiful wide shots worth screenshotting. Sometimes shows try so hard to be pretty, it's actually distracting. there were dramas that literally made me feel motion sick because they tried to be so "artsy" with how they filmed scenes. Here we have a great balance - scenes focusing on the plot progression are more simple, while the narrated ones that deal more with internal aspects of the characters give more of a beautiful and nostalgic feeling.
The questionable:
๐ถ Characterization of everyone and the pacing. There is no real proper development, everyone just changes from one scene to the other, and while at times there is one scene or situation that TECHNICALLY could be viewed as the reason, in real life ain't no one changes so fast. Especially in a situation when there was a misunderstanding or lack of communication - it's hard to admit to yourself you were wrong and switch your ways. But here, everyone just does. They have 12 episodes... shouldn't they get more even pacing. One of the reason I enjoy slice of life is that gradual smooth progression, but I don't feel like we get it here.
๐ถ Lee Yeo Reum's drinking. for me is kind of does not make much sense, since it's not really grounded in anything? The first time was fine and I completely bought it - she never got drunk, always had to make sure she is in a good condition to work etc. She always controlled herself, so when she finally let herself enjoy things and decided to drink, she did not know when to stop and got so drunk. But drinking her sorrows and anger in a completely different thing. They never presented her as someone who would do that, so it just did not fit the character for me. and focusing more or less the whole episode on it... was exhausting and it's making me dislike FL, when I did like her in episodes 2-3.
๐ถ I'm still salty about episode 1 because many things now don't really hit as hard as they should. Like her saying "I thought everyone hated me" < for me this line was not earned writing and directing wise. Logically speaking I can add in my head how her life must have been based on these few interactions, but it's not what the drama itself showed me, it's what I added. And even what happened in the town gives conflicted messages - people did dislike her and were not happy for her to be there. Most of them were annoyed or completely indifferent, and only Dae Beom showed actual positive attitude. So it's like it's just her misconception that people disliked her. Was the disliked reasonable? No. But it was there. And since they moved so quickly from everyone not being happy she is here, to most of people helping her and being friendly... that line just feels flat. Because we did not really experience with Yeo Reum her hardships.
