What is not okay: telling people to ignore what they don't like (sex scenes) and move on while also getting pressed about things they themselves don't like (criticisms and different opinions in comment section) and not moving on.
Not hard to comprehend and I don't know where I went against my principles here π€£
Also, there is a difference between separate users leaving one or two comments with disapproval (even if overall it adds up to many comments with similar opinions), and someone almost living in comment section replying to everyone - that's unhealthy.
Also, stop liking your own comments, that's pathetic π
My point is, either everyone is free to criticize whatever they want, or no one is. One cannot expect viewers to "move on" if they don't like the drama, while also getting pressed and replying to people who criticize the drama. Either expect people to move on, and you also move on without care for the criticisms, or you criticize and let people criticize too π
Fine opinion. Entitled to have it. Expressing it makes you hypocrite tho. You don't like the criticisms? Just don't go to comment section. Scroll past these comments. Why do you need to write about them in separate comment? π€‘
This is not fucking documentary π€£ They have 8 episodes. Sexual practices of royals IS NOT part of the plot - if that was the central aspect of the plot I would have ZERO issues with that scene and would expect far more. That goal of that scene was NOT to showcase sexual preferences of royals, it was to show the dynamics between the king and the queen and how he wants to protect her, even if t means hurting her in the process. You said it yourself. And there are better and more effective ways to show it. And more shots should have been focus on their faces and reactions to each other in that situation, and not to licking ice cubes, asses and mouth to mouth passes Β―\_(γ)_/Β―
You know what is central part of the plot? Fight for power of the throne. There are 5 tribes and 3 princes and none of them was set up at all in episode 1. This drama only has 8 episodes - they need tight writing and good set up, not ice cubes on king.
SMUT as a genre category and smut as a description of explicit scenes are two different things. You gave the smut manhwas as an example, which fall into smut genre. this drama does not. Know the difference Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

Don't try to explain why people think what they think, ask them instead - why they find it unnecessary. Don't claim you know.
On that scene - if this scene was not added for aesthetic sexual content, they would not for example give a close up of the two maids giving each other ice mouth to mouth - that was pointless. Instead they would give longer shots of queen and king's faces to see the emotions they were trying to hide. What is the focus of the scene tells you what was the main goal of it.
I have seen many similar scenes in korean historical smut manhwas < the key word here is SMUT, which this drama is not. I'm not complaining about ridiculous aesthetic sensual/sexual scenes in porn. There are genres where this scene in that format would be valid, here it was cringe.
I always feel like the try to hide lack of practice and natural movement with shitty editing in situations like that π€‘
around 29 cuts in around 17 seconds... oof.
I'm not mad about the boobs. Spiritualism and nudity are often linked for many reasons (depending on belief) so the nudity for that scene made sense, or rather it's not like it completely made no sense.
Ji Chang Wook looks manly, but sounds baby. This voice is a bit too high pitch for that great speech before the battle. It does not carry the volume.
Some of the green screen is... questionable.
Naked ladies and ice cubes? Not mad about it. Could they have the same result plot wise with something less cinge? For sure π€£ You know why it bothers me tho? Coz it's not fucking efficient at fucking all lol He is the king, he does not need to pretend he is getting medical treatment to have 3 half naked ladies all over him lol
Anyway, it was nice, but I'm not amazed? I think I prefer longer saeguks - I like when they are slower place, characters and plot are well established, rather than plot driven quick binge material. Will put it on hold till all episodes are out and then make the decision after seeing what my friends say about it ππ€£
This^ But also, I dislike how unnecessarily angsty this episode was about mundane normal thing that is NOT the end of the world. Ican take our two angsty leads being like that, but the grandpa too? And what I'm talking about? The whole "you graduate and people are gone from your life" - it's not like they move to a fucking mars lol You can keep in touch after graduation. Kohei and Taichi can still meet even if he drops. HELL, it would probably easier for them to spend quality time together when Taichi has one 9-5 job, and not uni and 3 part time jobs π€£
π Wholesome second leads - we have the case of second lead couple and not the "fighting for the leads" love triangle. God bless. Mo Eum is this kind and energetic, a bit weird woman and Dan Ho is basically Jesus resurrected. Love them both.
πΈ Women supporting each other in a subtle ways. Honestly, the friendship between the mothers is AMAZING. They are all different, from different economic and professional backgrounds, but you can see how much they care for each other when someone starts to get rude to any of them.
πΊ The dads are fun too. I think we will slowly get more of them (or so I hope), because their friendship is just hilarious.
π― Spitting facts about many social issues - shading even the leads. I think that's something I especially enjoy. The leads are not there just to deliver the message, sometimes they are the ones who need to do some reflection on their actions after they've been called out. Talks about privilege, biased perspective, fears, setbacks, family issues. It's not like one person is right and the other is wrong - both are correct and incorrect at the same time and the trick is to combine all the perspective to get a whole picture. No one is just privileged or underprivileged, because it depends on what and how you measure. And what is important to you.
π’ Quite a lot of talk about workplace environment, jobs, careers, passions. Victims of workplace abuse seeing their own behavior as the issue, contradicting goals based on prefered outcomes and priorities (idealism vs realism), living to work vs working to live, working long hours because you enjoy what you do vs doing overwork because you feel pressured to do that.
π₯² Complex family dynamics. Growing up neglected, growing up with internal and external pressure to succeed. Failing at your dreams and being able to seek for new ones, and not having an opportunity to understand what you like, because you want your family to be proud of you - so being the best is the goal itself. Question like - how to rebuild a relationship that never really started, how to have conversations with your child, understanding that just because you have good intentions and doing something "for their own good" might actually be the poison that slowly kills them.
All that in just 4 episodes π
π Bae Seok Ryu is such a great girl. I was so proud of her this episode! I appreciate how she is slowly opening up about her experience in US. Watching the flashbacks was truly painful, but it also gives a greater understanding of her character.
π€¬ Episode 3 was focused on some commentary on privilege, now we have toxic workplace environment. It must feel so suffocating - you want to get out of it, but you also need the job. People using your enthusiasm and manipulating you in such a shameless way, to then talk shit about you behind your back. Fuck this shit.
π€‘ We have some progress for second couple. Let's say this romance goes into directions I did not expect, but I'm 100% on board anyway π€£

(random reactions as I watch in comment below lol)
The way he is trying to convince himself he does not have any feelings for her anymore is so funny. My man you just were relieved she would not get back with her ex π€£ Stop lying to yourself ππ€‘
I feel like the husband is asking "when, where and for how long" she will be leaving to prepare himself? It does not seem like he wants her to actually leave.
- I can do it
- Seung Hyo shut up.
π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£π€£
- Is your work fun? Is it worth starving yourself for 24 hours?
- I could starve for 72 hours.
^ moments like that hit so hard. Seung Hyo wants to work because he enjoys it. He does not have to force himself to stay late, it's his passion. While Seok Ryu had to force herself to work. She worked motivated by sense of pressure and responsibility. It's so sad. It's one thing to not love your work, but be more indifferent towards it (kind of my case), but when you actually get stressed and hate going to work... it's just π
We are finally getting some of the dads! So basically the whole conversation was: one has home, but no money to spend on it. the other has all the money, but no real home. Both think the grass is greener on the other side.
Yo, here I thought the second couple would be all sweet and fluff, when they are bickering as much as the mains π€£π€£ I'm all for it tho. Cannot wait for her to get shocked when she figures out he is in fact her perfect man lol
The scene of Mo Eum and the child was so funny. When the kid said "Why are you trying to seduce me?" I died π€£
Omg that flashback to Seok Ryu's work days was painful. Nasty workplace environment can truly suck the life out of you. Fuck all them bitches! π€¬
Yo... they way I would give him a piece of trash talk to his face. Like bitch can do nothing without her. He is incompetent that's why he felt the need to manipulate his more skilled and smarted employes and that's a fact.
SKDJHFKJHG OMG YES MUY GIRL FUCK HIM OVER I AM SO PROUD AND HAPPY! GIRL YOU ARE AMAZING!
BUT ALSO, WHAT HAPPENED 3 YEARS AGO!
"Well, I think you'll be the one who won't be able to work again" I fucking love he said it with that sweet smile on his face π€£ I love Yun Myeong U, he is such a fun character.
yo the episode titles and end of episode titles are great: past perfect > past perfect continuous
"First it was k-pop and k-dramas. Now it's K-superstitions, you assholes" π€£π€£
