Reread my comment. I'm not a fucking idiot and the show is not exactly nuance and subtle in meaning behind the scenes - they are literally holding viewers hand and explain everything. I said THE SAME RESULT (him pushing the queen away) could be achieved with less ridiculous scene - for example normal sex scene.

On that scene - if this scene was not added for aesthetic sexual content, they would not for example give a close up of the two maids giving each other ice mouth to mouth - that was pointless. Instead they would give longer shots of queen and king's faces to see the emotions they were trying to hide. What is the focus of the scene tells you what was the main goal of it.

I have seen many similar scenes in korean historical smut manhwas < the key word here is SMUT, which this drama is not. I'm not complaining about ridiculous aesthetic sensual/sexual scenes in porn. There are genres where this scene in that format would be valid, here it was cringe.

I only saw episode 1 (waiting for it to finish before I decide if it's worth 8 hours of watching lol), but I rather have the king have a whole ass orgy than that cringe awkward ice cube scene that made no sense ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿคฃ They could have achieve exactly the same result with less ridiculous scene.

Holy fuck the editing for fighting scenes is so chaotic and fast paced I rather not see any fighting than this ๐Ÿคฃ
I always feel like the try to hide lack of practice and natural movement with shitty editing in situations like that ๐Ÿคก
around 29 cuts in around 17 seconds... oof.

I'm not mad about the boobs. Spiritualism and nudity are often linked for many reasons (depending on belief) so the nudity for that scene made sense, or rather it's not like it completely made no sense.

Ji Chang Wook looks manly, but sounds baby. This voice is a bit too high pitch for that great speech before the battle. It does not carry the volume.

Some of the green screen is... questionable.

Naked ladies and ice cubes? Not mad about it. Could they have the same result plot wise with something less cinge? For sure ๐Ÿคฃ You know why it bothers me tho? Coz it's not fucking efficient at fucking all lol He is the king, he does not need to pretend he is getting medical treatment to have 3 half naked ladies all over him lol

Anyway, it was nice, but I'm not amazed? I think I prefer longer saeguks - I like when they are slower place, characters and plot are well established, rather than plot driven quick binge material. Will put it on hold till all episodes are out and then make the decision after seeing what my friends say about it ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿคฃ

This^ But also, I dislike how unnecessarily angsty this episode was about mundane normal thing that is NOT the end of the world. Ican take our two angsty leads being like that, but the grandpa too? And what I'm talking about? The whole "you graduate and people are gone from your life" - it's not like they move to a fucking mars lol You can keep in touch after graduation. Kohei and Taichi can still meet even if he drops. HELL, it would probably easier for them to spend quality time together when Taichi has one 9-5 job, and not uni and 3 part time jobs ๐Ÿคฃ

I know we all love the drama for the leads and their interactions, but damn just so everyone knows, this drama has more to offer:

๐Ÿ’– Wholesome second leads - we have the case of second lead couple and not the "fighting for the leads" love triangle. God bless. Mo Eum is this kind and energetic, a bit weird woman and Dan Ho is basically Jesus resurrected. Love them both.

๐ŸŒธ Women supporting each other in a subtle ways. Honestly, the friendship between the mothers is AMAZING. They are all different, from different economic and professional backgrounds, but you can see how much they care for each other when someone starts to get rude to any of them.

๐Ÿบ The dads are fun too. I think we will slowly get more of them (or so I hope), because their friendship is just hilarious.

๐Ÿ’ฏ Spitting facts about many social issues - shading even the leads. I think that's something I especially enjoy. The leads are not there just to deliver the message, sometimes they are the ones who need to do some reflection on their actions after they've been called out. Talks about privilege, biased perspective, fears, setbacks, family issues. It's not like one person is right and the other is wrong - both are correct and incorrect at the same time and the trick is to combine all the perspective to get a whole picture. No one is just privileged or underprivileged, because it depends on what and how you measure. And what is important to you.

๐Ÿข Quite a lot of talk about workplace environment, jobs, careers, passions. Victims of workplace abuse seeing their own behavior as the issue, contradicting goals based on prefered outcomes and priorities (idealism vs realism), living to work vs working to live, working long hours because you enjoy what you do vs doing overwork because you feel pressured to do that.

๐Ÿฅฒ Complex family dynamics. Growing up neglected, growing up with internal and external pressure to succeed. Failing at your dreams and being able to seek for new ones, and not having an opportunity to understand what you like, because you want your family to be proud of you - so being the best is the goal itself. Question like - how to rebuild a relationship that never really started, how to have conversations with your child, understanding that just because you have good intentions and doing something "for their own good" might actually be the poison that slowly kills them.

All that in just 4 episodes ๐Ÿ˜ญ

๐Ÿ’– Bae Seok Ryu is such a great girl. I was so proud of her this episode! I appreciate how she is slowly opening up about her experience in US. Watching the flashbacks was truly painful, but it also gives a greater understanding of her character.
๐Ÿคฌ Episode 3 was focused on some commentary on privilege, now we have toxic workplace environment. It must feel so suffocating - you want to get out of it, but you also need the job. People using your enthusiasm and manipulating you in such a shameless way, to then talk shit about you behind your back. Fuck this shit.

The way they start the episode with the pool scene ๐Ÿคฃ That's evil ๐Ÿ˜ˆ

The way he is trying to convince himself he does not have any feelings for her anymore is so funny. My man you just were relieved she would not get back with her ex ๐Ÿคฃ Stop lying to yourself ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿคก

I feel like the husband is asking "when, where and for how long" she will be leaving to prepare himself? It does not seem like he wants her to actually leave.

- I can do it
- Seung Hyo shut up.
๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ

- Is your work fun? Is it worth starving yourself for 24 hours?
- I could starve for 72 hours.

^ moments like that hit so hard. Seung Hyo wants to work because he enjoys it. He does not have to force himself to stay late, it's his passion. While Seok Ryu had to force herself to work. She worked motivated by sense of pressure and responsibility. It's so sad. It's one thing to not love your work, but be more indifferent towards it (kind of my case), but when you actually get stressed and hate going to work... it's just ๐Ÿ˜ญ

We are finally getting some of the dads! So basically the whole conversation was: one has home, but no money to spend on it. the other has all the money, but no real home. Both think the grass is greener on the other side.

Yo, here I thought the second couple would be all sweet and fluff, when they are bickering as much as the mains ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿคฃ I'm all for it tho. Cannot wait for her to get shocked when she figures out he is in fact her perfect man lol

The scene of Mo Eum and the child was so funny. When the kid said "Why are you trying to seduce me?" I died ๐Ÿคฃ

Omg that flashback to Seok Ryu's work days was painful. Nasty workplace environment can truly suck the life out of you. Fuck all them bitches! ๐Ÿคฌ

Yo... they way I would give him a piece of trash talk to his face. Like bitch can do nothing without her. He is incompetent that's why he felt the need to manipulate his more skilled and smarted employes and that's a fact.

SKDJHFKJHG OMG YES MUY GIRL FUCK HIM OVER I AM SO PROUD AND HAPPY! GIRL YOU ARE AMAZING!
BUT ALSO, WHAT HAPPENED 3 YEARS AGO!

"Well, I think you'll be the one who won't be able to work again" I fucking love he said it with that sweet smile on his face ๐Ÿคฃ I love Yun Myeong U, he is such a fun character.

yo the episode titles and end of episode titles are great: past perfect > past perfect continuous

I agree about the mothers. Last episode when Seok Ryuโ€™s mother does a 180 after a single fight I was kinda surprised,…
I think it is about job. Sure, preferably back in US, but I think it's about her not "wasting" sitting and doing nothing "below her skills". That's why she does not allow her to help with restaurant etc. She knows Seok Ryu is used to being active and doing something, and this "jobless" situation for people like that can in fact get exhausting when they feel like they have nothing to do...

yes he has a privilege but rubbing it on his face and give the privilege a credit of his success and well-mannered…
Personally, I think in both cases it was perfectly valid to call out his privilege to his face.

He was the first one to get a bit preachy with Seok Ryu about her maybe going back to the field just just quitted and that she should just search for her dream. He was ignorant about how not everyone can do that, that he was lucky to be in position to be able to do that. They were both "rude", because they were both blinded by their emotions and did not consider the situation of the other person.

As for Lee Na Yun (his employee) - his idealism that comes from his privilege literally harms his workers. There is a difference between fearing you will fail pursuing your dream (which is the case for Seung Hyo, if his company goes under) and fearing you won't be able to support your family (which is the case for Yun Myeong U, he has two kids as far as I remember?) or take care of yourself (which would be the case for Lee Na Yun). The whole case is - even if she fails, he has the means to start over because of his family. Which is not the case for people who work with him. So again, calling out his irresponsible behavior that is rooted in his privilege is fair, if it affects them directly.
On Love Next Door Aug 25, 2024

We've got to see more of Seung Hyo's past and his personal struggles, but also how Seok Ryu fitted into that picture - which led to both comedic and moving moments.

Mo Eum and Dan Ho are SLOWLY getting more screen time and I'm SO excited for this couple. They are truly fucking angels. Dan Ho and his kindness is so attractive I might go feral at some point ๐Ÿคฃ

I also like how with just a few scenes here and there we get to understand the mothers a bit more, and damn I think they both are taking such a wrong approach to their kids situations and the relationships they have with them. One is trying to low key manipulate Seok Ryu to get a job, and the other is trying to pretend she has a good relationship with Seung Hyo and move on from all the past neglect as if it never happened.

What I want more is a bit more focus on the tho. We get close to nothing on them.

Lee Na Yun yet again proves to be best supporting female character we can get ๐Ÿ”ฅ

So, we were able to survive episode 3, barely.
But seeing the preview of episode 4, we are doomed ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Kinda sucks how everyone is trying to put Seung Hyos success on his "privilege". Completely unnecessary and rude.…
But it is a fact that he was able to be this successful partially because of his privilege. Hell, the fact he can even walk right now is because his family is rich and he was able to get all that treatment. The fact that he could recover without worrying about money, without seeing his parents struggle - which is one of the reasons many people go into well paid jobs and not what are their true interests.

The fact that he was able to look for another dream after one was ruined is a privilage itself.

I mean, we knew Choi Seung Hyo was emotionally neglected by his parents and that's why he was so close with Bae Seok Ryu's family, but seeing it happen is still sad.

At the same time, it's so good to see that even if they were bickering as teens, they were there for each other during the most important moments.

How Seo Hye Suk acts really bothers me. She failed as a mother and neglected her son, but now tries to just "move on" and be a happy family, without any work, serious talk and acknowledging her faults...

I am sorry, but I am so much like Seok Ryu it's ridiculous. I also plan my free time ๐Ÿคฃ I don't go by time, but rather by tasks tho, based on different hobbies and interests ๐Ÿ˜… "I might as well have fun in planned and systematic way" ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Now that I am watching Seok Ryu not being able to even rest freely it makes me think - how much of it is just her personality and how much of it is just habit she learn by working so hard all of her life. If she grew up with less internal and external pressure, would she also plan her free time? Look for ways to help people and work?

Her meeting with her homeroom teacher was so painful to watch. How she kept saying how proud she was of her. And asking her to talk to students about her work. Like damn... you cannot escape from expectations people have for you and it's scary and depressing as fuck.

I'm curious if she had a dream job in the past. From how they showed it, I don't think so. Which would make one never reaching his dream, while the other never having one in the first place. Grimm reality of being an adult. To be honest... I never had a dream job or like goal I wanted to chase with passion either.

Seok Ryu's situation is so fucking depressing. She needs rest as fuck, but she also feels guilty resting ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Wild for me to watch ambulance stuck in traffic in Korea. In Poland cars are legally required to make a path for ambulance to go. They can more to the right and left as much as possible, even drive slightly on the area for pedestrians etc.

If I saw Kang Dan Ho during one of his acts of kindness, I would be madly in love and turn into a stalker ๐Ÿคฃ SHE IS SO ATTRACTIVE I WOULD LEGIT WANT TO MARRY HIM ON THAT DAY!

I'm with Choi Seung Hyo on the health center issue. I was honestly not even mad about the whole "for rich only" part of it. It is what it is, 1% bitches are what they are ยฏ\_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ what bothered me was the plagiarism. For anyone who deals with any type of designing job, reputation is everything. They might win in court, but he would forever be known for plagiarizing others' work. It's a short term gain that can ruin long term business. BUT I also do understand Yun Myeong U. To some extends they are both wrong. One is too idealistic and one is too capitalistic. Seung Hyo should be looking for more profitable works, not just the ones that make him feel good, but Myeong U should know what lines they should not cross.

Not Seung Hyo arguing with Seok Ryu because of his frustration about his work. Dude, please don't project. Seek therapy. Seok Ryu should see specialist too ๐Ÿ™‚
