Title Go Ahead Spoiler
Let me start off by saying, this will definitely go down as one of the best C-dramas ever… Definitely like top…
This drama really delved into the topic of family and love really well…. Every single relationship, and almost every single character showed us the differences of each family and the conflicts families often have. The relationship between parents and kids are so important. The way kids grow up, and the environment they grow up in influences their personalities and their future so much. However, even parents are humans, and no human is perfect. Deep inside, most parents love their children, and they try to do what they think is best for their kids…. but no one has the ‘answer key’ to ‘How to be a good parent’. Parents are people too, so often times, they may be damaged inside too and as a result, choose the wrong methods to show their love and care. And we can’t forget that other than being “parents”, they are also just “themselves”, just regular “people” who are trying to struggle to live life. It’s not easy to always put the identity of a “parent” in first place. They may also just be trying to deal with their own flaws and insecurities.

Especially in Asian culture, so many parents put all their focus and all their lives into their children to the point that sometimes they may do too much… But often times, parents do this because their children are the only way they can find self-value… Deep inside, our parents may lack love and security too, and they really just want to be needed by their children.
This is why, people really cannot live their lives only revolving other people. This applies to both Mingyue’s mom and Chen Ting.

Let me start off by saying, this will definitely go down as one of the best C-dramas ever… Definitely like top…
Halfway through the show, there were so many negative comments about Ling Xiao’s character, but I found that all so ridiculous. I feel like many people who watch dramas fail to look deep into characters and just easily get triggered when something they don’t like happens. This drama is basically trying to show us how much pain children end up being in if they don’t grow up in the right environment. From the beginning, it was clear both Ling Xiao and Zi Qiu’s characters would be mentally damaged in some way. Can you really expect them to be saints who don’t make mistakes???
Ling Xiao was such a pitiful character… Think about living for nine years without any joy, basically living your life for someone else and not for yourself. It broke my heart when he said all he did was go to school/work and take care of his mother. The only thing that he could enjoy aside from that was thinking about Jianjian and daydream about her.
He was pretty much just getting bashed for not leaving his mother and supposedly being a “coward”. But come on, no matter how his mother abandoned him, she is still his mother. Ling Xiao knows how it feels to be abandoned, plus his mother got into such a serious car accident with no one left to take care of her. Also, he has always felt that he was at fault that his sister died, causing his mom to be so depressed and miserable. In addition, Xiao Cheng Zi was still so young, he probably felt that he needed to take care of her too. Before his sister died, I’m sure they also had a good mother-son relationship. No matter what, it is impossible he has no feelings for his mother. It is easy for outsiders to say they’d just walk straight out the door and never turn back, but if that really happened to you, would you really? Would you really abandon someone who is so damaged inside, and that is only hanging by a thread? Someone you know relies on you to keep living life?
It is definitely a burdensome position to be in, which is why Ling Xiao got depression and is also damaged himself.

So many critics were saying such selfish comments like Ling Xiao should solve his mother’s issues first before dragging Jianjian into all of this. Like wuuutttt? So he has a troublesome mother… that means he doesn’t deserve love???? First off, Jianjian likes Ling Xiao, so she clearly is willing to stand by his side and heal him. People were making it sound like Jianjian was so pitiful and Ling Xiao was only causing harm to her. Then, what do you want? Get Ling Xiao to break up with her because of his mother? How would that be any different than those tropes we hate where the male lead breaks up with his girlfriend cuz he has cancer and thinks it’s all for the best???? Geez. Why don’t you ask Jianjian if she wants that? -____-

I’m just so glad that he has Jianjian by his side to heal him…otherwise I’m sure he would’ve broken down ages ago as well…

Let me start off by saying, this will definitely go down as one of the best C-dramas ever… Definitely like top three on my list now! I really, really can’t bear to part with this show T__T I don’t want to say bye at all!!!!!

The topic of family just hits me deep in the heart… Especially being a Chinese, this drama really resonated with me so much. Can’t even count the number of times I cried watching this. Everything was overall well-written and really realistic, and even as a 40 episode drama, there was nothing draggy about it at all. I was able to understand every single character and the reasons for their behaviour, so I couldn’t hate even the most annoying characters in the show (*coughcough*Chen Ting*cough*). I swear I could write an analysis for every single episode about the characters and their stories.

Loved my OTP Ling Xiao and Jianjian <3 She is probably the warmest character in this show, and clearly, that is because she had such a wonderful parent like Papa Li. The writers did a good job of showing contrast between the children who all grew up with different parents. Papa Li was clearly the perfect example of the ideal parent. But obviously, the truth is, it’s impossible for all parents to be like him, because parents are humans too, and they are by no means perfect. That’s why all the ‘children’ in the show developed differently as they grew up.
Almost everyone in this show was damaged in some way, and that’s one of the most realistic things in this show. There was quite a bit of criticism about some of the characters midway (like Chen Ting and Ling Xiao), but the reality is that the human mind is actually really weak and vulnerable… All of us out here, I’d say, have at least been slightly damaged in some way, but being able to heal from that, or walk out of darkness, is not at all easy. I can really understand that some people just can’t get out once they’ve fallen into an abyss. (And that was the case for Chen Ting.)

The ending was definitely a bit rushed, and I’m sad that we didn’t see much of the OTP in the last couple of eps. I think Ling Xiao deserved a bit more closure, especially showing more of his healing process with Jianjian. Though the flow of the last ep was very choppy, I think the drama was still able to get across the important messages they wanted to convey.
There’s so much I wanna say, so I’ll just write more in replies below ^_^

FYI, the TV version of the show will be extended to 46 eps. But the version being uploaded on some other platforms (like Viki) will stay 40 eps.

I am so itching to start this drama, it's driving me nuts!! But I don't think I can stand chasing only two eps a day for 40 eps.... lol T____T Please hurry up and finish!!!!!! Can't wait to watch Li Jian Jian and Ling Xiao's romance <33 Their scenes in the opening/ending themes are SO DAMN CUTE. I am so pleasantly surprised there's quite a bit of romance scenes!! I was so worried this would be completely family oriented with little talk about romance.
Gaaaahhhh these two weeks need to fly by please!!!!!

Is there love triangle? cause i despise love triangle especially if my steven is not gonna get he girl, someone…
The pairing is definitely Song Wei Long and Seven Tan. Not sure if there's a real love triangle, but it apparently gets resolved fast?? I heard Steven gets his own love line? Anyhow, I think Steven and Seven's characters' mom and dad date / get married or something, so it's not possible between them.

Title Once Again Spoiler
am i the only one who wasn't really into the proposal? yes it was cute and all but they have been dating for like…
I definitely agree with you, but it probably happens a lot in real life, so I guess it's not odd it's happening here. (This is also the reason why there are many failed marriages out there.) But when people are "in love", many tend to act on impulse. During this kind of honeymoon phase, many couples are convinced they are the ones for each other and can make it through everything. It is not easy to take a step back and think realistically. That's not to say there aren't successful marriages out of these 'flash' marriages though, so I guess many couples in love try to take a gamble.
But for a drama that started out with a bunch of failed marriages, I also think it seems like deciding to get married after two months makes little sense.... Shouldn't the drama be telling people to think thoroughly and making sure they are right for each other before jumping into marriage? (However, I'm far behind in this drama, so I can't fully judge this.)

It was a pretty decent drama, but nothing surprising at all. Pretty predictable overall, but it's a nice story.

Yeah, all I can say is, for a Saintess and the "State Guardian".... the two leads really seemed quite useless…
No, he didn't, but I believe he was still in a coma at the end of the show.

I really hope they keep the romance between the leads! Though I'd still be interested if there weren't... Seems like it could be a touching family story!

Yeah, all I can say is, for a Saintess and the "State Guardian".... the two leads really seemed quite useless…
Yeah, the token thing was actually the stupidest of it all. Cuz it literally took her like 18 episodes to get it in her hands or something. Without it, the plot was stuck in the same place the whole time. And to think she's supposed to be the savior of the whole Kun Wu race? Seriously??? -__-

The best and most memorable thing about this drama was the character Yu Feng Mu, the Prince of Sha Guo. I don't…
Yeah, all I can say is, for a Saintess and the "State Guardian".... the two leads really seemed quite useless throughout the whole drama and did not seem like two capable heroes at all. Literally, they barely accomplished anything... I agree Yu Feng Mu was the most memorable! Way too selfless!! It kind of annoyed me that the FL never properly acknowledged him and we didn't see her find out the sacrifice Yu Feng Mu made for her in the end! But I guess it was probably just cut or something.
Your suggestion of the Long Wei Er and Li Xuan pairing does seem more interesting. Come to think of it, the romance between Li Xuan and Su You Lian really was way too bland because they barely did anything for each other, nor change or influence each other. Basically, the whole story of their romance was watching Su You Lian push him away because of her identity. I also really don't like romances with lack of development and we are just forced to accept that they suddenly love each other.
I really don't get why the final edit turned out like this? They rushed the end, but spent more than half the show dragging useless stuff....

It is a 16 episodes drama but split into 2 episodes for half an hour back-to-back broadcast on KBS. It already…
They're not really following anything or trying to make ep count longer. The major stations started splitting eps so they can air commercials in between lmao

So, I didn´t have a lot of expactations for this drama after seeing its length and the poster..I thought it would…
Ugh omg, I'm feeling the exact same way... I actually thought I'd like this drama because I think the leads look potentially compatible, but I really don't feel the sparks (as I mentioned before, I think their romance development was too abrupt and a lot of their moments were kind cheesy), and the story is bland. 16 eps and the main plot still has not moved ANYWHERE. Shouldn't this drama be about the conflicts between the Human race and the Kun Wu race? Nothing has happened and they're still after that one badge. Every time I play an episode, all I can think of is how boring it is. But I really don't like giving up dramas midway, so I have to push myself through it. I'm this close to using the 2.0x speed button for the rest of the eps though T_T The comments here said it was supposed to be 60 eps, and they cut a lot of the story, but I can't imagine how draggy it would be if it were really 60 eps.....

Title White War Spoiler
Let's see.... Overall pretty bad plot with not much happening, lots of illogical tropes that make you go like…
Cried so much at the end T______T My heart Gallen Lo's acting is still great! His character was way too controlling, and clearly he only saw Jessie as his ITEM. He is used to controlling everything, and not allowing anyone to touch anything he sees as "his". Jessie's character was truly pitiful.... I'm glad she was able to have some happy memories with Turbo, and found the warmth she always needed from him. She was too lonely all these years, but finally found someone she felt was similar to her, someone who she could connect with. Gaaahhhh whyyyy did she have to die !! :( Both Turbo and Jessie really deserve to have some love!
