I don't think so... Maybe 20% are here exclusively for the BL.And it's not something to be proud.
I appreciate that you asked the person for clarification rather than lashing out negatively like the other commenters. I do think you could have left out the "stay in our lane" comment however, since it implies the person on the receiving end lacks knowledge or experience about matters which there is no way to know if that is true or not. One of the tropes I have seen people complain about more than anything is misunderstanding. But I think the reason why it seems to be used so often is because it seems to be our nature.
I have to disagree with this drama feeling more like a Korean drama than a Chinese drama. My Fated Boy came across…
I do not mind some constructive criticism about a drama. Or even some abrasive dialogue about a drama where viewers cannot seem to agree on anything. Whining does have the connotation of annoyance, so I do think that comment sections would be better served without it.

There is validity to the thought that we want to find dramas that click with us and make us feel something within. I am not sure if it always has to be happy, but this particular drama was a fluffy (happy) one at the end of the day.
Thanks for not listening to gossip, rumors, and tabloids while deciding what couples you ship and would like to ship. Zheng Shuang is one of my favorite actresses as well. If I remember correctly, most of the actresses you listed were favorites from previous articles, so I am not surprised you ship them or want to ship them. I suspect most readers and commenters have no idea how difficult it is to put your thoughts and feelings out there for everyone to read and comment on. As far as shipping couples or wanting mains to work together again, I do not mind. I would prefer that there be some time between dramas to separate the characters from the cast. I also would like to see mains working together, but with different personality traits (cold male/warm female one time and warm male/cold female the next, as an example).
I hesitated to start this because, after browsing the reviews and comments, I expected the second main lead to overshadow the main couple. I am glad that did not happen. I enjoyed the drama even though it got condensed towards the end and left some plot lines unfinished. Doo Chil Sung's awkward sunglass-ed obsession offered contrast to the sweet and comfortable relationship enjoyed by the main couple. One thing I did not understand (and maybe it is a cultural thing) was the choice of dishes served. Why a Chinese restaurant? Why focus on the Korean dishes? All of the food looked really good nonetheless. I am glad I took the chance and if you like fluffy romance and food, I would recommend you give it a try.
If the question is simply who has done a better job at getting their dramas to be seen globally, then the answer would be Korea with no room for debate. That does not mean either one is better from an entertainment standpoint because I have really enjoyed some of the Japanese dramas I have been able to watch. I do not think that Korea has sold out, but has surely been influenced by the rest of the world. I do not really have enough viewing hours of Japanese dramas to make a judgement about them. I do wonder why Japanese anime is easy to find and seems global while their dramas are not on the same level. I think that it does not have to be an either/or situation. Japanese dramas can be made available to watch more freely while still keeping to their own values. I also think that once you start accepting truckloads of money for your content (via sites like Netflix and Hulu), of course it might change your perspective.
Ikr I hate it. Dramas mention Africa like its a country and not a continent. Stop painting the continent as poor…
I do think the optics are not favorable regardless of intent of that part of the drama. Dramas can do better, and viewers should expect better. I wonder if this even registered on the radar for Chinese entertainment/media, or if it is just international viewers who feel free to make these criticisms.

Dramas probably do that to avoid misunderstanding with a particular country. I do think they could have used some fictitious country if they wanted to crank up the dramatic aspect to his volunteer work.
If that is the limit of your imagination, I can understand why you think the way you do.
I actually feel relieved to know that your assessment came without any thought to other possibilities. I was shocked that you might have tried and came up with nothing, but to not have tried at all makes me feel a bit more at ease.
I think if you judge the drama solely by what it was, it was pretty good. A short, sweet, fluffy romantic comedy that had faults, but was still enjoyable. The subtitles were not the best, but having watched plenty of dramas with auto-translated subtitles, I was able to follow them. I do think the plot was a bit thin (and underdeveloped), and there were too many support characters (only 12 hours of story and they seemed to want to give everyone some time). I wish the main couple would have had more onscreen time together. I thought the drama overall was more of an audition for the cast to get more experience, or to get noticed for bigger roles.
On a side note, when I first saw the female lead, I did a double take because she looked like Park Ji Yeon's character in My Runway.
It is pretty interesting to read some of the comments, articles, threads, and posts on the site. To whomever thinks episode 16 is good to great, I will have to agree to disagree with them.
Hey after so many weeks why it is still at 8.2 mannn I am saying this again this drama does deserves more rating…
I think it is one of the best dramas I have seen in 2021. It is also one of the milder dramas. I think some people may not like how ordinary the overall story is. That was its best point for me however. Sweet and safe.
I never meant my one word statement to mean that differing voices should not exist. I just question if we should listen to those voices. And should we choose to, how much credence should be put into them.
I think if people are thoughtful and expressive enough, you can even have a discussion about things that might be subjective. That goes for dramas and beauty. If you gave me a list of people you considered beautiful, and a list of qualities you look for in beauty, I could come up with a list of people you would consider beautiful. It may not be perfect, but it paves the way towards a common understanding. Same thing with dramas. I also think in the case of this drama, I was not the only one that noticed how different episode 16 was for the main leads in comparison to the previous 15. Taking into account the recent history of Korean romantic comedies in general also gave me reason to think that the final episode was not as good as it should have been.
When I am discussing dramas, I tend to differentiate between opinions and personal preferences. Mainly because the comment section is a very casual place. There are usually no real debates, formal arguments, defense, and probably rarer to find some sort of conclusion that most can agree on. Opinions should carry some weight and be defensible. Personal preference is just that, personal. You can like the color blue, and there is not much to add. If you think dramas use too much clothing that is blue, but we can discuss that regardless of whether we agree or not. I am actually more inclined to regard the original statement as hyperbole more than anything else.
I preferred to be firm and succinct, rather than fierce and long-winded. It is not perfectly acceptable, which is why I cast doubt on the acceptability of such a statement in the first place. I never claimed to not like the drama. I liked the drama overall, and really liked the first 15 episodes. I would recommend that anyone give the drama a try, and watch the first 15 for a good experience.
Off topic: Why can't Asian dramas mention a specific country instead of a whole continent? This always happens…
I think there could be several possibilities. With a global audience, they do not want to risk misunderstandings with another country. Another is that continents are probably the extent to which most people can identify geographically outside of their own country or region.
Drama is light and good but i have a problem in ep 20 when Wu Ying becomes pregnant and decides to abort the child…
Problems are meant to be solved. It all worked out in the end, and both friends ended up telling their significant others about it even after agreeing not to say anything. Granted the whole pregnancy story seemed a bit rushed, but at least there were not multiple episodes dragging the drama down trying to deal with it.
