His mother is so controlling and he's smart enough to realise that he cannot do much while he's still a minor. Just like what yingtao's parent said, theyre in that stage in life that they dont have full control of their lives yet.
The novel it was adapted from was actually good; if the drama script is half of what the novel is, then this could probably be a good drama and wouldn't be surprised that he chose it.
