In this drama, there is no rivalry because 1FL in not interested by 2ML.
And they are not involved romantically. A double relationship has to exist for it to be a love triangle.
This is my understanding of it. I don't know what are your views about it?

And yes this the situation you are depicting.

However, I have been told that a love triangle needs a choice.
The person the 2 lovers are pursuing has to be hesitating between them.
If this is not the case, it is only a couple disturbed by an unrequited lover.

It is not a love triangle arc.
There is no hesitations or choices. 1FL likes 1ML. And he is fond of her.
All the rest, are a bunch of unrequited lovers who will try to middle between them without getting any success.

Yes, it is exactly like those old harlequin novels fom the 80's in wich the Male Leads force kisse , take whatever they want to, whenever they want to from the female leads.
And they have to deal with it.
It is gorgeous but sometimes annoying. However, it kept me interested.

It would be better to speed up their scenes instead of skipping them, because, unfortunately, you might miss some plot points.
Because at the end of the drama ( last 3 -5 episodes) the serial killer has a solo arc. and you might not understan it, if you skip earlier episodes.
It harsh to stand the massagre and the rape but f-fwarding it can help

I totally agree with your analysis. Yes, MJH is someone who had been suppressing his emotions due to the lethal threats he was subjected to. But Now thanks to Mei Lin, he is slowly starting to feel and express emotions. And it is beautiful.
I find it interesting that in the first 3 episodes MJH is seen as a frightenning freak. And now, thanks to his alliance with Mei Lin, he becomes more and more human.

As for "love in the desert", there is a lot of sexual harrassement in the first half of the drama. After that it eases a little.
But FL still needs to protect herself from Na Zhan attempt of intimacy.

"Love in the desert" is a gorgeous show ( scenery, actors, costumes). I liked the drama. The leads were great. but the 2nd couple is problematic : bonnie and clyde of the desert : murder, rape, massacre, stealing...

I am happy 1ML is a more complex character than a vulgar rapist.
I watched "Love in the desert" and thank you , no, thank you, we had enough rape attempts in that show. I am glad 1ML and 1FL collaborate to defeat the conspiracy.

Let's just be logical. 1ML could not collaborate With 1FL if he had to subdue her by raping her. This would be completely unsustainable. I am glad, we don't watch that.

1ML's quest is virtuous. He wants to avenge his army and the people of Zhingzou, clean his reputation and stop the mastermind.
So, basically, whatever he does is for the greater good. To me he is not evil. He wears a "mask"
He is not a "joker" but more of a "batman"

@yarnie I was happy to see for once a FL wise in medecine without any fighting skills, thus any needles to throw right and left.
FL's only supepower was her intelligence and overall, she did very well.
Especially, avoiding being rape by Na Zhan.

I respect your opinion, but I don't like to watch the same trope of fighting FLs doctor that I have watched already.

Hankiz Omar was playing a cold and aloof princess.
In my views, she did it very well.
She had to be stiff, speaking firmly and have a lot of elegance.
To me she was magnificent in this role.

I like that, we could watch a cold and aloof princess, who is forced to fight against her own sex drive because of an aphodisiac.
This unexpectedly broke the ice between her and ML.
And I have liked to see their relationship slowly warming up.

Yes, It is like there was 2 dramas in 1. First part : 1ML and second part : 2ML.

I liked the drama but I don't like that, they try to make us like the serial killer and his sociopath girlfriend. With a lot of flashbacks and way too much screen time to make sure that we cry when he receives his well deserved punishment.
It is a little bit too manipulative.

Other point : Why is Ge Xin Wei so happy in a palace with a baby.
After she teamed up on killing spree with Ruo Wen?
I am sorry but, in my opinion, she deserved some punishment for Massui massacre and all the death and shenanigans she has taken part of.
They killed Ruo Wen's sidekicks, all of them. But they let her happy without any punishment. This is not fair in my views.
I have the impression, that becoming a city lord white washed her dark trashy past.
