I have to admit that you are right. In a nutshell "Melody of a Golden Age" and "Maiden holmes" are the same kind of dramas. But the Female Lead here has more flaws. Again today on episode 26, she went on field to investigate with Pan Chi. Then when she gave the feedback to Shen Du. He already knew everything and he even updated the info. So yes, she is not that effective. She could be a great help to Shen Du but she is too arrogant.
In "Maiden Holmes" Su CI was never arrogant. On the contrary she was very humble and thoughtful. And a great profesionnal thanks to her "hawk eyes". She was admirable.
But Here, the writer wanted to make Yan Xing a Superwoman + feminist but unfortunatly she has so much flaws that profesionnaly she can't stand the comparison with Shen Du.

I agree with you Shendu could have solved it all by himself. The problem is that Female Lead thinks that she is powerful and independant. When in reality she doesnt have any martial art skills and she is way too impulsive.
So she is more like a liability than an asset sometimes.
In "Maiden Holmes" Su CI was on point: intelligent and a great fighter. She was never dumb like Yan Xing is. Too bad, because Yan Xing is skilled but she is her own enemy.
This is drama starts with fire and keeps on burning with coal. I enjoyed the chemistry overall. problem is 2nd male lead who is ridiculous and 2nd Female Lead who change her mind everytime.
