SUCH A BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL DRAMA. You can read the reviews and comments for all the positive things. I will instead address here the most common negative comment I see, because I know such comments can be discouraging and you might skip and miss this treasure. ABOUT THE ROMANCE PART - I do agree that you will feel a shift in the tone of the story at around ep15 when the romance starts and you might end up always saying you miss their childhood and romance is not necessary . However as it move along, in my opinion the romance is not a negative thing. It is not the central focus of the story, and the LOVE TRIANGLE is very short lived. Honestly you can't even call it a real love triangle, it's just a momentary confusion on ZiQui's part. Don't worry ZQ is not gonna cry over that, the 'love triangle' scenes were actually funny.
The romance is also not uncomfortable for me as even from the start, although JianJian considers them both as brothers, you can sense that there is still a difference between her relationship with LingXiao and ZiQui. Same as how LingXiao is very much aware that JianJian is a girl, in comparison to how ZiQui treats her. And the most important factor is that they were separated for 9 years and in those period they were greatly reminded they are not blood related. I don't think it's weird and 'incest-like' at all.
So to anyone who is hesitating, PLEASE GIVE IT A TRY, IT IS WORTH IT. The romance is just a minor part, the family and the slice of life struggle is still the core of the story.
P.S. Can't see comments appreciating the child actors. Such wonderful performance, I wanna hug them so badly whenever I see their sad eyes. T.T
I'm confused, I watched this on YT and was surprised when it ended on ep29. I see another version with 32 episodes, did I really missed 3 episode worth of scenes?
I'm on ep4 now and I'm liking the simplicity of the plot, the main couples chemistry and their natural acting. But why, why oh why do they still have to insert this 2nd couple I assume? They disrupt the flow of the scenes, I couldn't care any less about them and I feel like they do not fit into the story. I wish there is less of them in the next episodes.

As an avid reader, I think I'm more open minded and can diffentiate reality from fiction so it's really not a deal breaker for me. I'm just curious how bad it is, do you know which chapter? Because the review that I read gave it a 1star because of that and said ML is complete trash. Also, which chapter does the FL give up and leaves the 'past'? Sorry ,too many question 😅 I tried reading the MTL but it was so badly translated.

Thanks for the explanation. Maybe it's because I got used to the idea of the multiverse and I think the timeline she left will continue without her and she'll just branch out to a new reality. I have another question, I read from the review spoilers that TTJ raped the FL, is this true?
I always think she's a Thai actress. And now I figured it out. Her, Bua Nalinthip and ParkMinYoung were like make from the same mold. Now we gotta find their Japanese counterpart too.haha
I read the first 36 chapters of the novel (the one with the better translation) and I'm LOVING it. The character is perfect for Luo YunXi. It's one thing playing a grey character (due to nurture) in Ashes of Love, I just can't wait to see how he will level up the psycho mode as TTJ's character is definitely close to black than grey. His is a combination of nature and nurture. I like it when author do not hold back on anti-hero character, one who is unapologetically evil and doesn't just magically turn 180* better for the FL. The process in between is what distinguishes a good writer.
However, since I do not want to read the bad translations and ended up reading spoilers, I must say I'm kinda disappointed on where the plot went. Maybe it was because I read bits and pieces of the spoilers and it's just so confusing and messy. Up until ch36 I was really hoping it would have the twist like in the anime Kamisama Kiss, where the timeline is fixed and the present is already the result of FL transmigrating to the past. I even thought that was the reason the Demon King let go of FL when he caught her when she was a child as she reminded her of YXW. I hope they tweak the script a bit, but pls don't hold back on TJJ brutality. LOL
They should have stayed loyal to the original source material of webtoon, wasted lots of screen time by elaborating…
100% agree. The webtoon is way better. Honestly I didn't have much expectation for this when I saw the casting, but the series is quite fun in the beginning. And then it went in a totally different direction than the webtoon and relied too much on fanservice. People still enjoy it, but I can't help but imagine what if we have better casting for the main couple (2nd couple are okay for me) and stayed true to the story.
Both main leads sort of look cute together but there was never for me the sparkle that second leads have. That…
Yes. I agree. I think they adjusted the character to fit the actors instead of the other way around. No hate to AhnHyoSeop, obviously his TaeMu is enjoyed by a lot of viewers, but I still feel a bit upset that we got robbed of the legit manhwa TaeMu. TVN TaeMu is too comical for me, I don't know if it's because AHS just doesn't really fit the cool and cold aura. He seems to me a poor copy of ParkSeoJoon from WWWSK. It's really cringey, maybe it's the writing. Manhwa TaeMu exudes natural charisma and authority, if you take away TVN's TaeMu's wealth, he's just gonna be over the top cringey. And quite the opposite for Sec Cha, in manhwa he's super innocent and soft. But because MinKyu has a different vibe, they made his character more charismatic and manlier. I reckon if we should have switched the main leads.
The previous photo must be reverted back. This new profile picture doesn't even look like him, it looks too edited and kinda sleazy. The previous one best represents his aura and how he normally looks. Please bring it back. ðŸ˜
officially done with the 49 Episodes. what a journey!! the high rating is very much deserved. but instead on raving on the positives, I would just like to address the common negative comments. YOU KNOW WHAT, AT SOME POINT I AGREED TO THESE NEGATIVE THINGS AND ALMOST DROPPED IT. Luckily, I stuck by it and my opinion has changed. Mind you, aside from Reba I do not know any of the actors or haven't read the manhwa, so there is no bias here.
"LEO WU IS MISCAST/HE TRIES SO HARD TO LOOK TOUGH" - I think this has more to do with expectation. When I read the plot, I expected a lot of angst on ML and FL relationship. I also expected Ashile Sun to be that typical tough, aloof, devil may care anti-hero sort. That's why at first he seems inconsistent when he's obviously alpha but he's coming out soft at times, was it Leo's inability to stay on character? But after ep15 when we get to see more of Sun's life in the prairie, I think Leo made a perfect interpretation of his character. Ashile Sun is not a dark character, and in his words he is keeping himself strong just so he can protect those he care about. He has superior skills but personality wise he's pretty much a standup guy. And I like that although he's a good guy, it's not on a noble level. He still follows Great Khan's underhanded plans, and also mercilessly kills people when Changge's life is at stake. And I think Leo delivered all these elements well. That one scene with his mother, I was blown away, the boy can act! I am fan now and I adore even his button nose. :)
"IT IS BORING" - I must admit around episode 12-15 I was also bored and almost dropped it. This is what I hate with Cdrama when they add too many filler and sidequest. In this case only after finishing the whole story did I also realized the relevance of those 'slow' episode, they also served a purpose. I think this is one of the few historical Cdrama which is well paced and every scene adds to the story (even though you don't realize it immediately). FOR THOSE WHO ARE STRUGGLING WITH IT, TRY TO STICK TO UNTIL EP20, if still not into it, then I guess you can drop it.
" I DON"T LIKE THE ANIMATED PARTS" - this is personal opinion ofcourse, for me, I like them. Gives homage to the manga. And I very much prefer it rather than bad CGI.haha
"HOW CAN THEY MISTAKE CHANGGE AS A MAN" - you must be new to Cdramas then! this one we can do nothing about, just roll with it. It's not appealing if they give Reba prosthetics or made his wear mustache or something.haha
I hope I can find another historical Cdrama that I will like. I tried all those hyped about (Untamed, Love and Redemption, Ancient Love Poetry etc) but somehow they weren't for me. The only ones I love so far are Ten Miles of Peach Blossom, Ashes of Love, Eternal love of Dream, and now The Long Ballad.
I must say, I feel the same heartbreak as I did when the KimSeonHo scandal broke out. I feel like both of them are genuine nice people who just got caught up in bad circumstances. Deng Lun was by far my most favorite C-actor(after watching Ashes of Love) and I always look forward to his works. I hope there is some update here that flips the narrative, it's quite a small amount for him (considering his total earnings) to deliberately avoid paying and risk his career for, don't you think? For sure it's gonna be a rough year but I hope he comes back soon and we still get to see the dramas he already shot sometime in the future.
After many many years of watching asiandramas, this is still to date my number 1. Nothing has ever knocked this off my top spot yet. A Korean adaptation will be good, but I hope they do it via Netflix so it doesn't have too many censorship. I think there is a certain kind of skill in the directing and script, and also with how the actors brought the character to life that made this series so gripping. It has that mix of unexplainable elements, poignant, sometimes eerie, melancholic but at the same time hopeful.
He's really a handsome and talented actor. But I couldn't finish some of his series because the plot is so cringey. I hope he is given a good project with an original and high caliber story.
The events starting ep3 are completely different, there's too many to point out. There's also character change. I feel in this live version Taemu is a lot softer compared to manhwa, he's really manly and cool in the manhwa. And the opposite for Sec. Cha, he was a total softie and here he's more aloof. I actually prefer the character and flow in the manhwa, but I still enjoy this drama nonetheless :)
I love NaInWoo, but I still feel hurt. If only KSH was given a graceful exit and the credit he deserve, I will fully embrace this new chapter. Hopefully a few more months and I'll be able to enjoy this show again.
please same all i thought of was the smell every time they went in that room to talk
Yes. The window is their blessing, and the room is far from empty, so many things you can repurpose. Don't know why they didn't fully utilize it. I keep thinking how they can breath when OnJo and the other girl was inside that room.😂
