Using a dying girl’s sickness to get more audience got him so much bad publicity that viewers not only boycotted the show and gave a very bad reputation but more importantly, it is strongly implied that his boss was about to fire him (he said that if he didn’t make Jiang Nan participate in the show, which would gain them the viewership’s forgiveness, he may pack his things and leave)

To be fair, a drama like the Blood of Youth that focuses more on the action and fantasy scenes makes it difficult to fully show one’s performing talent (moreover, her character is basically a vase so she can’t really show her talent here). Hope she’ll get other parts in the future where we can really see what she’s worth
