It's a pity that those older dramas dont get the high ratings they deserve. The really good ones if re-mastered, subbed and made available on streaming sites might also resonate with new viewers..

Japan made some great dramas in the 1990s and enjoyed widespread popularity in East and South-east Asia, amidst rise of Japanese popular culture that span anime, manga, music (J-pop) and dramas. It's a pity that Japanese dramas did not jump on the digital bandwagon to stream and sub their dramas for the international viewers

antis from all walks - those who doubt the acting skills simply because the cast consists of young candy idol actors in their 20s, those who dismiss this drama as only a bl drama just because it was adapted from a danmei novel, and the diehard novel fans who are sore about the toned down bl, gore and morality in the drama

Yea censorship for cdramas has tightened with the Qing Lang campaign... While I would love to watch more Jdramas, there hasn't been a great deal of jdramas on Netflix sigh :(

i have not watched both mangas to be able to comment for Squid Game. That said, i do see a number of other dramas having shades of some other dramas

Thank you! Do give The Last Breakthrough a try - it's a heartwarming contemporary HK drama on docs without borders treating and helping needy folks. You might have already seen the leads (Nick Cheung, Raymond Lam, Leila Tong) for this drama in some of the movies :)

I'm totally with you on both: giving older dramas a little more love (that they so deserve) and an emerging cdrama wave globally. Though, i think due to Chinese censorship, kdramas will still reign this decade in terms of contents variety and global viewership

Errr.. seems like the cdramas in the 2000s are not as highly ranked nor widely watched compared to the kdramas. But wait.. there's Fan Bing Bing's debut drama - Princess Pearl :)
