So many thanks for such a helpful article! I'll be adding titles to my increasingly impossible to watch before…
Thank you! The speed that dramas are released is insane and will always need to prioritise and reprioritise :)

Why is the 1990s counted as 1991-2000 and 2000s as 2001-2010? It's not a really fair measurement because many…
It's my usual way of counting.. and yea, the results will be different if counted differently. Interestingly, after i filtered based on your counting, i noticed that the dramas in 2010 never show up in the popular list for 2010-2019. Likewise, the dramas in 2000 never show up in the popular list for 2000-2009. And majority of the dramas in the first 10 spots tend to be dramas from the mid and later half of the decade (i.e. 2005-2009 and 2015-2019)...hmmm

The 1980s saw a lot of great j-dramas, unfortunately far fewer of them seem to have been subtitled compared to…
Thanks for the recommendations - i havent watched any of those. Are the visual quality good? Dramas in the 1970/80s usually lack in video (e.g. color, rendering, 3:4), and audio qualities.

What a great and interesting article! I love Long Vacation (and its soundtrack), I've watched it a few times.…
Thank you! Kimura was hailed as the “King of Japanese Dramas” then for good reasons, though i prefer Sorimachi's fun, sunny, outgoing and passion for life persona in GTO and Beach Boys :) The C- and K- oldies are worth checking out imho. Enjoy :)

Do check out the 3rd series of the Condor Trilogy - my fave among the three. Have you watched The Condor Heroes 95 (1995)? If not, do check out for "hidden" reference for The Untamed :)

A lots of old-school doramas that I watched and some that I haven't and I should from the '80s and 90's. :)By…
Some doramas not listed here which i recalled watching are Heaven's Coin and Under One Roof - Have you watched those? If you like Bae's persona in Winter Sonata, do also watch Dream High (2011) where he made a special appearance with Park Jin Young + see Suzy, IU, Kim Soo Hyun and Ok Taec Yeon in their younger years more than a decade ago, pursuing kpop dreams :)

Agree with Kitty10. Hope they realise soon the immense economic and cultural impact they have missed out, and do something about it.

Wonderful article! Old dramas are so fun to watch!! It's great to see how dramas have progressed in story quality…
Thank you! Especially fun to see how the actors/actresses acted in their younger years and compare to their performances now :)

Queen Seon Duk, Autumn's Concerto and Liar Game were some of my first dramas that got me into asian dramas overall
Thank you! While i have not watched any of those, they ought to be good dramas having seen them popping up time and again on MDL :)

Thank you! What is/are your faves in the 80s and 90s that you will highly recommend?
i have not watched Kamen Rider, but yea, Condor Heroes and Journey to the West are classics that don't age.
Gokusen is 22nd on the popular list for 2001-2010 - so i would say it is popular :)

Cdramas especially the historical costume dramas are usually longer for world building and character growth, but…
Cdramas are coming strong, and the standouts are usually the costume/historical cdramas. A number of plots/scenes in AoS remind me of costume/historical cdramas. Hope you will enjoy the costume/historical cdramas in time to come! :)
