i agree it could be both as well. JC is the typical hard-mouthed and soft-hearted kind of person. As a child, he threw WWX out of his room only to be lost and injured trying to locate WWX. He blamed WWX for causing the deaths of his parents, but lured the Wen folks away when he saw WWX in danger of being discovered by the Wen folks, and ended up being caught and lost his golden core. He had wanted to stab WWX, but ended up stabbing into the cliff. They could be best brothers forever if JC's mother had not been always comparing and demeaning him against WWX

Cos i cant relate to this drama, sped through it, and wont be rewatching at all. No idea how FH and contrariness got called out here.. i rated FH 6.5 and ABP 6.0, while you rated FH 4.0 and ABP 7.0 - perhaps i enjoyed FH and ABP for similar reason you enjoyed ABP. i'm disengaging from this thread and this is my last response for this thread.

Seriously, they are not all that bad.. the acting in the first few episodes may feel raw, compounded by confusion, for viewers new to the drama.. the characters and their backstories plus the plot and its messages will eventually make viewers invested in the drama and its characters

Just to add that WRH is the Chief Cultivator then, and there has been a balance of powers among the 5 clans and everyone lives peacefully, until WRH starts to consolidate his power using the Yin Metal, to pave way for his less talented sons (vs the descendants of other clans)

Actually considered your point if to include dramas with announced new season(s) when making this poll, and decided to not exclude, so as not to exclude dramas with official new season announced some time already, but the filming has yet to start (e.g. Joy of Life (2019)). Thus, kept the poll broad as "What are some dramas that need a next season (Season 2, Season 3 etc) now, because you can't wait to watch the new season?" Perhaps can consider removing dramas when their respective new season start airing

arrrghh.. this similarity with Doulou Continent waned off soon as the drama progressed to focus only on the protagonist’s journey. Comparatively, Doulou Continent is richer and more layered with an ensemble cast - the protagonist's interesting team mates, each with their unique personalities, backstories and relationships are pluses for Doulou Continent.

i actually enjoyed the support roles in the Shrek Seven Devils team, each with their unique personalities, backstories and relationships, making this drama richer and more layered vs focusing on only the protagonist's journey to become stronger, and bring peace to people.

it is interesting, but of different genre from The Untamed. If you enjoy RPG Final Fantasy-style of leveling up and forming teams for battles, you will enjoy this drama. The protagonist has 6 other team mates and 3 teachers, each with their unique personalities, backstories and relationships, and their strong friendships and teamwork as a formidable team, winning battles and thwarting devious plans make this drama an enjoyable one, though not as epic as The Untamed. Xiao Zhan charms in this drama as the protagonist.

for me, it is the pace and the emptiness in the characters, their lives and story, with endless long pauses, sighing, walking, waiting/taking the subway, eating and drinking that make this drama hard to relate for me

For those who are still hesitating to watch thinking it is a BL drama, it is not, due to Chinese censorship. The two male leads are portrayed as soul mates in this drama, and the "soul" of this drama is not on their relationship. Beyond the bl-idol hype, at its core (“soul”), through its intriguing plot, complex 3D characters and quotable quotes, this drama is a cocktail of new found families, mystery unraveling, clan rivalries and power manipulations, society norms and oppression, good-evil, weak-strong and upholding justice, amidst a roller coaster ride of emotions (what trash is this, it’s getting interesting, it’s heart-wrenching, laughter, angst, despair, tears, joy). https://kisskh.at/profile/whatever_weus/review/191995

After seeing bits and pieces of how the novel progressed from the comment posts, i'm also satisfied with season 1 ending, for different reason: To keep hope that Yan Xun will turn good at the end in the drama, even though he may not end up with Chu Qiao.

It is sad ending per the synopsis on this MDL page goes: "But destiny can not be altered". That said the FL and ML had their wedding ceremony in 2nd half of ep 19

Xiao Zhan's Patient No. 5 role was prior helmed by Hu Ge (who played the ML in Nirvana in Fire) from 2013-2021, showing Xiao Zhan's grit to become a good actor, despite his lack of professional acting training

The relationships of the characters took some references from the original novel - Monkey God is the first disciple of Sam Jang, followed by Pigsy (PK, who always quarrels with Monkey), and Sandy (Oh Jung, who is very obedient and follows Monkey's commands). Ma Wang is Bull Demon King in the original novel and the main antagonist, craving for Sam Jang's meat for immortality.

Though i find this drama cheesy compared to the Chinese classic adaptations, I enjoyed the frenemies dynamics between Oh Gong and Ma Wang best! This is actually their second drama together - you may want to catch them in their earlier drama: You Are All Surrounded. Also Lee Seung Gi and Lee Se Young are currently filming a drama that would be aired in a few months' time.
