The standout performance of Lin Mu Ran who plays Sui Yuan Qing, this young actor, 20 yrs old, also has a supporting role in the upcoming drama, Mo Li. But I doubt his role there can be as good as this role, but interesting to see.
The ML’s backstory really isn’t shrouded in mystery, right? His father was a great general who suffered defeat because miliary supplies didn't reach them, so naturally the ML grows up driven by revenge. Is that basically his whole story or will there be surprise element later?
Meanwhile, the villains—played by the supporting cast—actually have the most intriguing storylines, and those threads eventually intersect with the ML and FL. And honestly, the FL has the most complete and compelling story of all. She is the story.
Something that's been bugging me from early on when Changyu was preparing the court appearance to keep the house:…
I like to think whatever her parents did or didn't do was to protect their children, however that works out. By not being well read, perhaps they didn't' want her to figure out their past. They wanted her to be safe, sheltered away from dangers of politics. They just wanted their children to live a simple life and be safe and happy. If she is well read, she might leave the village, like how kids go off to college and never come back.
I actually love her versatility and how she can showcase so many sides of the same character. But at the same…
I said she does a great job showing each side of the character, but for me when I am watching, I felt a sudden shift, but then she was always like that even in the beginning, one moment she's soft, sweet, innocent, kind-hearted, and "even a bit vulnerable or "precious" in her everyday interactions—especially in romantic or domestic moments,' her next movement she's slaying pigs and men. Maybe her character should have been less sweet and innocent and a little rougher around the edges consistently, but she has this soft manner and rough manner at any moment. But what I'm feeling is "intentionally written with that "stark duality." She's not " uniformly delicate or uniformly fierce historical drama heroines." It's actually what makes her character a bit addictive but at the same time, I can feel it's bit jarring too. Another example: I really love how she changes her voice for different moments. But in the battle scenes, her voice gets so different—yet it was an amazing version of what I would expect too of a warrior's voice—I was so impressed but at the same time, I almost don’t recognize it’s the same character anymore.
Everybody obsessed with zlh n disregarded how pretty xiwei is n all her cute hairstyles. Her versatility in playing…
I actually love her versatility and how she can showcase so many sides of the same character. But at the same time, it feels a bit disparate — the shifts are so different each time that it almost feels like I’m watching a different drama whenever she changes. It shows her amazing range, but the transitions can feel too disconnected. It’s probably more about the director than the actress — he’s the one controlling the flow.
It’s kind of like Clark Kent turning into Superman becoming a completely new version of the character.
i hope to see xie zheng fight full battle (without injuries) and show us the true nature of marquis of wu’an.…
I doubt it will change because I don't see why the director would suddenly shift his focus away from the FL. He's anchored the whole story around one character. To me, they have already shown the Marquis’s toughness in bursts — just not as dramatically, as extensively, or with the same depth as the FL.
not gonna lie this drama should have at least 50 episode to cover the novel
I’m not sure when that change went into effect, but there’s no longer a 40‑episode limit for historical costume dramas to allow for more quality period dramas.
I agree tbh 😅 I’ve read the novel too, and this happens with pretty much every adaptation. It does feel a…
An actor from another drama only skimmed the original novel and never actually read it. He said every adaptation will be different anyway. And honestly… if the actor doesn’t care, what can you really expect? At that point, the novel and the adaptation become two completely different works.
The MDL ranking seems to have peaked at #14 and has now slipped back to #16 right as the leaks happened. I wonder if the leaks influenced the drop since the timing overlaps, or did the drama simply hit its natural peak? People are talking more about the leaks than the show.
