I loved the romance but I'm aware that it's subjective. What I like, someone else can dislike.

I think the romance is more on the normal/sometimes romantic/sometimes a bit down to earth side.

ML and FL make love before the end of the drama and live together for 3 years before getting married.

On top of that, beautiful scenery. Someone in this thread told me that the drama was shot in a chinese province close to the Laos and Thailand border, and the people living there are from the Dai ethnic group. So the landscape, houses and the village are beautiful and not what I associate with China but more with Thailand.

But we learn something new every day, right?

The FL flirts easily with the ML and I think they start dating around episode 12. "Official" first date on episode 15, followed by a break up but solved the next episode and the couple is together until the end.

SML and SFL have strong crushes on the main leads but they are more on the funny side even though sometimes, they can be annoying. But they aren't villains or dangerous. In fact, the SFL even surprised me, in a good way, in episode 15 and 16.

No annoying exes in this drama.

Main leads communicate with each other which leads to solving problems quickly. They are also behaving like normal 20 something (meaning they won't freeze if they touch each other's hands, in fact, they make love in episode... I don't remember, around episode 19 or 20? And they live together for years before getting married)

Happy ending for main leads and SML and SFL. The third couple is on-off, apparently. Open ending but it's obvious that sooner or later, they'll end up together.

It's strange, the comments here are mostly positive. The critics from some are that it's a bit bland for them.

The ratings, for weeks, remained around 8/7.9. Not many people were watching so not many people were rating it. Then in less than 8 hours, 50 more people started rating it, putting the ratings at 7.6.

For a comparison, during the airing, there were mostly 2, and sometimes 0 people rating it, per day.

More strangely, those "new" votes started after two positive critics were posted.

Is that an example of the brigading I have heard of, on other MDL dramas topics? I have read somewhere that the main actress was getting some backlash because her last dramas weren't good so I thought: "Oh, well, at least with this one, which is rather good, her luck should turn" but could it be possible that there are some people who really dislike her and vote against her?

I have seen that recently (this week) for another drama so I'm wondering if it's common on MDL?

I don't remember exactly when they start dating. Maybe around episode 12? Before that, there was flirting but I think around episode 12, it started being a little more official. First "official date" and first break up in episode 15, solved in the next episode and then there's no break up at all. The 24th episode is a nice epilogue telling the next 3 years.

Thank you for your answer. I have watched enough modern Cdramas to see parents behaving this way and understanding that it's cultural and therefore, very different to how parents behave, in general, in the western world.

But it's one of the reasons why I love watching Kdramas and Cdramas: to see how people from a totally different culture live.

She certainly makes him pay all the years he tormented her as her boss. The guy has to earn her back the hard way, that's for sure! But she is a strong lady and I think that she will cave.

Doesn't that remind you of Mr Darcy's first impression of Lizzie, not handsome enough to tempt him?

Kind of like Pride and Prejudice. Mr Darcy fell for Miss Bennet because she is different from the other women he knows. Same here with this drama.

It's an enjoyable drama. It's one of those drama on the cheap side but don't let that stop you. It's funny, the actors are great, they have chemistry so I would recommand it. In fact, I would recommand more the less known dramas because there are really enjoyable ones which many people miss because the ratings or comments on MDL aren't good. Too bad. Some are really great.

Maybe it's a cultural thing? As a french, I'm always shocked about how parents, in Cdramas, think they can dictate who their children date or which college they can go to or which cursus to apply to.

I'm wondering if many chinese parents are like that? In that case, yeah, it's shocking for a western woman like myself.

Pfff, right until the end. He is only starting to see that he has no chance. The thing is, the FL was his boss, and older than him so there was never a chance for her to unfriend zone him.

Also, his crush is played more on the funny side than the serious side. Even if it can be annoying sometimes.

Ha, I knew it! Uncle was jealous. I mean, it was hinted at, in a previous episode, when he told his then secretary, when she was in his home and watching the family picture, that Lin Wei had been loved, spoiled, by everyone and how everything revolved around him. I knew then that he was jealous of the love and attention his sister had for her son.

He was raised by his sister, from what I gathered (parents dead, elder sister taking care of the younger brother) and Lin Wei, especially when he started going abroad for his studies and then back as a famous entrepeneur, triggered Uncle's jealousy, who was working in his sister's company.

So basically, Lin Wei's mother trusted the wrong person for her coffee business, she needed money but Lin Wei had signed a contract saying that his companies couldn't invest in his family business. He proposed to invest his own money and also to study how to save the Coffee business but his mother had a heart attack before he could act.

It's just... unfortunate, and bad luck. But not his fault. She called her son and her husband but let's face it, how many of us aren't 24/7 on our phones? For Uncle, learning that his beloved sister called her son AND her husband but not him... that must have hurt. His anger, jealousy and resentment exploded then and he accused Lin Wei and his father of having caused his sister's death while it was just fate. Who could have expected a 47 years old woman to die suddenly? Yes, she was stressed out but I'm sure neither her husband nor her son expected this stress to cause her to have a heart attack.

Well, we know the story, now. At least, the FL's best friend refused to take Uncle back until he cleans the house. I mean, solve his family problems and move on.

Fei Fei and Shu Yu are not really competition. They try but it's more funny (and sometimes annoying) than anything. They never got a chance.

There's some kind of break up in maybe around episode 8 I think but it's resolved quickly and another one in the middle but once again, resolved quickly.

The good thing about this drama is that the main pairing talk about things and there's no dragging.

I don't think so. It's a funny drama so far and Xing Fei is good at comedy. Also, in the latest episode, the FL's younger brother is already preparing him for a stay in this era by mentioning an ID, buying a phone so if he stays, he has and ID card.

I'm just wondering if he will stay in the present, or if it will end with him dying in the past but reincarnating in the present. Or if it will end up being a dream, or the FL having traveled into her game (the one she was playing in the first episode).

The drama hinted at problems early on between mother and daughter. The FL mentioned her half-sister (I think her mother contacted her for her sister's birthday), her mother working too much, growing apart and being in college away from home. So I knew that at some point, either the mother or the sister would show up.

There was also the ribbon she wrote on, in the first episode, about having nobody to rely on. So she wasn't close with her family.

Also, I'm not sure the mother really knew what was going on professionally with her daughter. The details, I mean. But when her daughter posted a pic and a message about a boyfriend, she decided to visit her daughter.

I'm strongly starting to doubt MDL ratings. I mean, I have watched three dramas lately that deserved wayyyy higher ratings than they got : "The legend of Zhuohua" (it deserves a 8.7, easily), "Parallel World" (it deserves a 9) and "Dear Mr Hermitage" (which deserves a 8.2).

People should be forbidden to vote until a drama has finished airing and should only vote on the episodes they have seen. Right now, because especially of "Dear Mr hermitage", I am wondering how many great dramas I have missed because I trusted MDL's ratings.

I thought episode 21 was a gripping episode, the tension is going up between the uncle and his girlfriend, and the uncle and his nephew. Add to that the medias smelling a scandal and targeting the ML... yep, seems like the "medias" are the same, whatever the country. The last three episodes are going to be stressful!

She is better in episode 20. But yeah, typical Cdrama mother. Although the daughter, contrary to other Cdramas, wasn't submissive to her mother. Right from the start, she butted head with her and told her off.

There were some touching moments between them in episode 20, and I understood the mother a little better. She was a widow at a young age, was working hard, remarried, had another daughter, didn't have time for her first daughter... now she compensates but since she wasn't that present in her daughter's life, the FL told her to let her live her life in peace.

It's a bit sad because there wasn't a misunderstanding or a lack of love between mother and daughter, but more growing apart because of geography (the daughter was in a high school away from home, I think). And not really understanding each other.

At the end of episode 20, the mother accepted her daughter's boyfriend, even if she believes that because of his debts and his internal problems he hasn't dealt with (his mother's death), her daughter's life won't be easy (in her mother's eyes).
