They have a natural chemistry with each other wherein you needn't need them to do much. Sometimes, less is more and they are a perfect example of that. Same!

one day apart that felt like three years for ZYZ, but 300 years apart for WX ππ am never moving on from this scene.
I have so much appreciation for the 'slow-motion' effect on the whole fight scenes because of how it highlighted all those details of movements that would have been missed by the audience if it were at a normal speed. This effect, allowed the fight scenes to not only show how well executed each of the movements of the characters are but it adds so much intensity to that actual scene itself giving you the feeling of wanting to hold your breath. I especially loved the whole fighting scenes itself with each of the characters.
The scene between Wen Xiao and Zhu Yan when he finally regained his consciousness was so beautifully executed. You could feel the immense amount of emotions both of them had during that moment alone. When Zhu Yan's previously fierce gaze turned softer with different amount of intensity as his eyes slowly turned up to look at her. Then when Zhu Yan's eyes finally met Wen Xiao's loving eyes with one of her hand slowly reaching out to touch his face, Zhu Yan as if already accustomed to her touches closes his eyes and instantly rested his cheeks into her palms, fully embracing the moment. The amount of delicate gentleness that revolved around them in that very moment felt so heart warming to see as we know how much both of them had been through. Even if what we only got was an almost kiss scene, am not even complaining because that almost kiss of theirs without needing grandeur words screamed so much about their feelings ; their love for each other. I say this is thanks to Neo Hou and Chen Du Ling's natural chemistry and perfectly in sync emotions, they truly carried this scene.
Our demon hunting team or team of misfits had really come a long way, and we could see how strong their bond had now turned out to be after all the hurdles they had been through. Zhu Yan had only been gone for days - barely even a week, yet each of them had been affected deeply by his absence and had clearly spoke their true inner feelings out loud to each other. The words Wen Xiao told Zhou Yi Chen about her having a change of heart, as she comes to realize how she could never be able to hurt him. Whereas, Zhou Yi Chen who used to be so willing about fulfilling the promise he had with Zhu Yan, crumbled upon the moment he saw Zhu Yan again, his words to him reflected his emotional struggles and for how much he wants Zhu Yan to live. I just know that when the ending comes, it will break all of our hearts.
Zhu Yan truly means a lot to them now. I fear we will never be able to survive the ending.

Wen Xiao has used her hairpin as a pen which traces back to the ancient times because of the similar usage. According to this post, during the ancient times, the court officials had to write down the King's orders or will on a tablet when they attended meetings. A pen for them is a necessity as they also need to document the results of the affairs that was discussed and remember it.
The hairpin was orginally used for practical purposes but it later became part of the rules for government officials. In the old book of the Tang Dynasty (Yu Fu Zhi) it was stated that Civil Officials whose rank is 7th and above wore a white pen as a hairpin along with their court uniforms. Whereas, military officers and nobles do not wear a hairpin. During this times, the white pens were only used while other pens are only for decoration and can not be used for writing. In the Song Dynasty, an ornament that imitated a real brush was used.
Based on these, it can be deduced that Wen Xiao's hairpin has three purposes.
1. Wen Xiao acts as a compiler (of information about demons) and manages the demon hunting bureau. She is like a government official and the hairpin pen conforms to her status/identity.
2. The hairpin pen highlights her intelligence and resourcefulness, similar to the court officials in the imperial court, although her military power is slightly low, she can strategize, she can get a hold of each member in the demon hunting team and unite them firmly together.
3. Wen Xiao used the pen as her blade, the ink as the front (cutting edge of a blade) to catch demons and protect the world.
